But one area that has not yet benefitted is natural language processing--the ability to read a document and then answer questions about it. That's partly because deep learning machines must first learn their trade from vast databases that are carefully annotated for the purpose. However, these simply do not exist in sufficient size to be useful.

The two new Raspberry Pi cameras have a resolution of 8MP and feature an image sensor that enables the board to capture 3280 x 2464 pixel static images. The v2 cameras have video capability of 1080p30, 720p60 and 640x480p90 video, and link to the Raspberry Pi board through a dedicated CSi interface.

When British mathematician Sir Andrew J. Wiles was awarded the Abel Prize Laureate in math on 15 March for cracking a centuries-old hypothesis, a friend asked me, "Why did he get the prize, and will this solve any real-world problem?" Quoting from the statement that the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters gave to the press, I told him that 63-year-old Wiles had been given the annual award "for his stunning proof of (French mathematician Pierre de) Fermat's last theorem by way of the modularity conjecture for semi-stable elliptic curves, opening a new era in number theory". Andrew Moore was a professor of computer science and robotics at Carnegie Mellon University for a dozen years when Google hired him away in 2006 to lead some of its efforts around ad targeting and fraud prevention. CMU lured Moore back in 2014, making him the dean of its computer science school.
