The AI that can train your dog: Researchers develop smart harness that respond to your dog's body language
Researchers have developed a computer system that can train dogs without the help of a human. The team from North Carolina State University developed a harness which contains an array of sensors to monitor posture and body language. Using a small built-in computer to transmit data, the system can give out rewards for correct behaviour by releasing a treat from a nearby dispenser. Qualcomm Helps Make Your Mobile Devices Smarter With New Snapdragon Machine Learning Software Development Kit
Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced at the Embedded Vision Summit in Santa Clara, Calif. The SDK, called the Qualcomm Snapdragon Neural Processing Engine, is powered by the Qualcomm Zeroth Machine Intelligence Platform and is optimized to utilize Snapdragon's heterogeneous compute capabilities to provide OEMs a powerful, energy efficient platform for delivering intuitive and engaging deep learning-driven experiences on device. This SDK is the latest software addition to Snapdragon 820 and demonstrates Qualcomm Technologies' continued leadership by adding value for our customers to the Snapdragon portfolio. Qualcomm Technologies, with the introduction of the Snapdragon Neural Processing Engine, is the first mobile SOC provider to offer a deep learning toolkit optimized for mobile. This SDK will allow OEMs to run their own neural network models on Snapdragon 820 devices such as smart phones, security cameras, automobiles and drones, all without a connection to the cloud.
A vicious circle: Stereotypes WARP how our brains 'see' faces to make them appear in a way that supports our biases
Despite more women in the workplace and increasingly multicultural cities, stereotypes are holding firm. And now neuroscientists have discovered our stereotypical views can warp how our brains see faces, ultimately forcing them to conform to preconceptions. The discovery sheds light on how unintended bias affect the way people behave, and why it such biases are so hard to shake. Despite more women in the workplace and increasingly multicultural cities (stock image of a black man is pictured) stereotypes are holding firm. The research was carried out by Jonathan Freeman, an assistant professor in New York University's Department of Psychology and his colleagues.

IBERAMIA 2016 San Jose, Costa Rica. 23-25 November, 2016
This is the leading international symposium where the Ibero-American AI community comes together to share research results and experiences with researchers in Artificial Intelligence from all over the world. The conference will feature a pre-conference program of workshops. The main technical program will consist of invited talks by leading scientists working in the area, presentations of technical papers, as well as system demonstrations. The Proceedings of IBERAMIA 2016 will be published, as in past editions, by Springer in its Lecture Notes in Computer Science/Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence LNCS/LNAI series. IBERAMIA 2016, the XV edition of IBERAMIA, welcomes submissions on mainstream AI topics, as well as novel cross cutting work in related areas.
Machine Learning Workshop for Developers #MLDXB
Most Machine Learning courses are given from the perspective of a Data Scientist and focus on the techniques and algorithms that allow to learn from data. This workshop takes the perspective of an application developer and instead provides an end-to-end view of ML integration into your applications. We'll go all the way from data preparation to the integration of predictive models in your domain and their deployment in production. The workshop is agnostic and features the best open source Python libraries (Pandas, scikit-learn, SKLL), APIs and ML-as-a-Service platforms (Microsoft Azure ML, Amazon ML, BigML) for developers getting started in Machine Learning. It focuses on only two learning techniques, which turn out to be the most commonly used in practice: decision trees and ensembles.
Russia spends millions on 'cloud seeding' technology to ensure it doesn't rain on May Day public holiday
Nasa has announced that it has found evidence of flowing water on Mars. Scientists have long speculated that Recurring Slope Lineae -- or dark patches -- on Mars were made up of briny water but the new findings prove that those patches are caused by liquid water, which it has established by finding hydrated salts. Several hundred camped outside the London store in Covent Garden. The 6s will have new features like a vastly improved camera and a pressure-sensitive "3D Touch" display

Data Science Dictionary
We created a data science dictionary in 2012, and we are still adding keywords. It is also in our Wiley book (better English, recent update). Here we share with you another similar dictionary, from BigDataProjects.org. A technique in which a control group is compared with a variety of test groups in order to determine what treatments (i.e., changes) will improve a given objective variable, e.g., marketing response rate. This technique is also known as split testing or bucket testing.
