More than a century after introducing the Model T, Ford hopes to once again change how the masses move. The company announced this morning that it will have thousands of fully autonomous vehicles in urban car-sharing and ride-hailing fleets by 2021. To achieve that goal, the company will double, to 300, the number of people at its Silicon Valley research center and add 60 autonomous vehicles to the fleet of 30 already deployed there. Google, Nissan, and Mercedes-Benz see autonomous vehicles on the road by 2020, and Chinese tech giant Baidu says it will have the technology in 2019. But none of them has made promises as specific as those Fields made today.

Studies on sat-nav use have found that while they helped motorists on their journey, they affected memory. The drivers remembered less about what they have seen along the way – and struggled to retrace the route when asked to drive it again without the aid of the sat-nav.

Google is pulling another lever on its influential search engine in an effort to boost voter turnout in November's U.S. presidential election. Beginning Tuesday, Google will provide a summary box detailing state voting laws at the top of the search results whenever a user appears to be looking for that information. The breakdown will focus on the rules particular to the state where the search request originates unless a user asks for another location. Google is introducing the how-to-vote instructions a month after it unveiled a similar feature that explains how to register to vote in states across the U.S. The search giant said its campaign is driven by rabid public interest in the presidential race between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. As of last week, it said, the volume of search requests tied to the election, the candidates and key campaign issues had more than quadrupled compared to a similar point in the 2012 presidential race.

Susa Ventures, a San Francisco-based seed-stage venture firm, announced today that it has secured a 50 million fund, Susa Ventures II. This is just the second fund for the firm, which was founded three years ago and has so far backed 41 companies through its first fund of 25 million. With its new fund, Susa plans to back 12 companies per year at seed investments falling between 400,000 and 750,000 (roughly twice the check size compared to Fund I investments). Furthermore, the firm has wisened up about the way it invests. In Fund I, Susa adhered to a 1:1 ratio for follow-on funding.
