Oracle just made its biggest ever acquisition for Cerner's AI
Oracle's gargantuan $28.3 billion acquisition of health care data company Cerner, the largest deal in its 44-year history, is not just about electronic patient records. From algorithmic systems that predict the likelihood a patient will contract sepsis to tech that tracks hospital bed capacity, Cerner will bring an array of cloud-based data analytics and AI technologies to Oracle as it competes with Amazon Web Services, Google, IBM and others to serve the health care industry's data and AI needs. In fact, the deal is poised to shift some business away from AWS, which Cerner named as its preferred cloud partner in 2019. Oracle's acquisition of Cerner, a company that got its start in health care IT in 1979, is expected to close in 2022. The all-cash deal is also expected to improve Oracle's bottom line in its first year, the company said in a press release.
Vectorspace AI Releases Thematic Crypto Basket APIs for Exchanges
Vectorspace AI, a subsidiary of Vector Space Biosciences, Inc., now enables cryptocurrency exchanges with a thematic crypto baskets REST API available here. This API enables an exchange to offer tradable baskets of cryptos related to a theme, event or topic of any kind in real-time. The API is designed to spawn an ecosystem of new products for retail traders and investors providing them with abilities similar to hedge funds or asset management companies operating advanced data engineering pipelines. "It's like having your own dedicated NLP, AI, or Machine Learning pipeline," remarked Kasian Franks, Founder and CEO of Vector Space Biosciences, Inc. "This opens up a new world of thematic investing where baskets of cryptos or stocks can be generated based on a theme or global event in real-time using similar'language modeling' techniques used to predict the way proteins fold by DeepMind's AlphaFold2." VectorScreen is an additional filtering package powered by the core crypto baskets API, enabling advanced screening and filtering resulting in additional alpha.

ETRI protects the safety of citizens with Visual AI
A Korean research team developed a technology for detecting humans lying on the road in real-time. Therefore, preventing safety accidents in the city and rapidly responding to it will be possible, and a safer society is expected to be accomplished. The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) announced that it applied the technology of Visual AI ‘DeepView’ to Daejeon Metropolitan City in earnest to prevent safety accidents in the city and promptly respond to them. DeepView is an AI technology recognizing human behavior. It detects people lying on the road through surveillance cameras in real-time. As it can be applied to preventing safety accidents caused by drinking, fainting, etc. and performing prompt emergency rescue measures. It is expected to become the core technology for making a safe city.
Making artificial intelligence more natural through evolution and development
Yaochu Jin is doing research on nature-inspired intelligent technological systems that organize themselves in a changing environment. How can artificial intelligence (AI) draw on principles from nature to solve complex problems? When it comes to recognizing patterns in large amounts of data, AI is faster and more capable than humans. However, it has difficulties when it has to make connections or deal with uncertainties and fuzziness. Through evolution, development, and learning, nature has developed much more practical problem-solving solutions. Yaochu Jin, the Alexander von Humboldt Professor of Artificial Intelligence at Bielefeld University since the autumn, is looking at how such principles can be transferred to AI.
Orbital Insight to build AI for intelligence community based on artificial data
WASHINGTON – The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency has selected a team of commercial and academic partners to build an artificial intelligence system with synthetic data, which will further help the agency determine how it builds machine learning algorithms moving forward. Orbital Insight was issued a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research contract by the NGA, the company announced. It will collaborate with Rendered.ai As the organization charged with analyzing satellite imagery for the intelligence community, NGA has put increased emphasis on using AI for its mission. The agency sees human-machine pairing as critical for its success, with machine learning algorithms taking over the rote task of processing the torrent of satellite data to find potential intelligence and freeing up human operators to do more high level analysis and tasks.
