Uber Revives Self-Driving Taxi Dreams, Plans to Start This Year

Uber Technologies Inc. inked a deal with Motional Inc. to offer driverless deliveries and rides, rekindling its vision of a self-driving taxi fleet nearly two years after it sold its autonomous vehicle division. The San Francisco-based company is partnering with Motional, which is an autonomous driving joint venture between Hyundai Motor Co. and Aptiv Plc. The 10-year deal will pair Motional's all-electric IONIQ 5 robotaxis with Uber's ride-hailing and delivery platform, the companies said in a statement Oct. 6. They did not disclose financial terms. "This agreement will be instrumental to the wide scale adoption of robotaxis," Motional Chief Executive Officer Karl Iagnemma said in a statement.

Google Updates Assistant With New Features For Pixel 7 Series

San FranCisco, Oct 7: Tech giant Google has announced that it is improving Assistant's artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, including new ways to interact more naturally with Assistant across Pixel 7 and the Google Pixel Watch. The company said that with Assistant voice typing, users can easily talk to Google to type, edit and send messages on average 2.5x faster than typing on the keyboard, and now in more languages -- Spanish, Italian and French. When users are writing a message, Assistant voice typing can now suggest emojis relevant to their messages.It lets them search for the Emoji to insert with their voice even without knowing its exact name. "At Made by Google, we shared some ways Google is creating a more delightful calling and texting experience on Android-powered devices and how Assistant's speech models are helping to make it even easier to communicate," Minni Shahi, Director, Product Management, Assistant. Google said the new Call Screen helps users avoid unwanted calls and it has handled over 600 million calls for users last year.


China's Artificial Intelligence Market Will Exceed US$26.7 Billion by 2026, according to IDC

IDC recently released the IDC Worldwide Artificial Intelligence Spending Guide. Data shows that total global IT investment in artificial intelligence (AI) in 2021 was US$92.95 billion, expected to increase to US$301.43 billion in 2026, and the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) was about 26.5%. As for the China market, IDC predicts that China's AI investment is expected to reach US$26.69 billion in 2026, accounting for about 8.9% of global investment, ranking second in the world among other countries. In recent years, more and more enterprises have become involved in the Digintelligence Era and started the deployment of digital transformation (DX) and intelligent upgrading, which has thus spawned more demand for AI. Qualys Acquires Blue Hexagon's AI/Machine Learning Platform
