Infosys unveils machine learning platform Mana
Infosys has launched a machine learning platform and strengthened its partnerships with Microsoft. The platform is called Mana and aims to drive automation and bring in innovation amongst businesses, the company said at its annual conference in San Fracisco. Mana, with the Infosys Aikido service offerings, lowers the cost of maintenance for both physical and digital assets; captures the knowledge and know-how of people in an organisation; simplifies core business processes and enables businesses to bring new user experiences leveraging technology, the company said in a statement. Addressing the gathering, Vishal Sikka, CEO & Managing Director, Infosys, said that purposeful AI is about leveraging technology to amplify people. "We can automate the repetitive, mechanisable tasks; we can capture the knowledge and know-how across people and long-lived systems and bring this knowledge back inside the systems to drive more value; and in doing these things we can free people to put all of our creativity, passion, and imagination into thinking about the bigger opportunities ahead of us," he added.

Weather app Poncho raises 2 million to build its AI and data science tech
Fresh off its promotion at Facebook's F8 developer conference, Poncho announced today that it has raised 2 million for its personalized weather forecasting service. The round was led by Lerer Hippeau Ventures and will be earmarked for improvements to Poncho's natural language processing, in addition to building artificial intelligence and data science technology into its bots and apps. Participating investors include Greycroft Partners, Comcast Ventures LP, Venture51 Capital Partners, RRE Ventures, Betaworks, Broadway Video Ventures, Ore Ventures, and several angel investors. Started two years ago out of Betaworks, Poncho offers a weather forecast alternative to Yahoo Weather, AccuWeather, and The Weather Channel. The company seeks to dominate what CEO Sam Mandel calls "thin content," which is activity that "takes place within the notification layer and also on a messaging platform that's contextually relevant, customized, and comes at the right time, but with enough polish to be engaging and cause a happy emotion."

'Computer vision' brings Martian surface into stunning relief
The idea of enhancing an image digitally to reveal previously unseen levels of detail has become something of a sci-fi movie cliché. Now, astronomers at University College London have used a similar computer vision technique to learn more about the location of the missing Beagle 2 probe on the surface of Mars. A paper on the novel "stacking and matching" technique, which allows researchers to pick out objects at a resolution of up to five times greater than the original images, was published in the journal Planetary and Space Science in February. But just recently, the UCL researchers began using the technique, called Super-Resolution Restoration (SRR), to identify individual objects on the red planet's surface. "We now have the equivalent of drone-eye vision anywhere on the surface of Mars where there are enough clear repeat pictures," Jan-Peter Muller of UCL's Mullard Space Science Laboratory says in a press release.
Nintendo NX Release Date Announced Alongside 'Legend Of Zelda' E3 Update And New Smartphone Games
Nintendo has announced that it will launch its next generation games console -- called NX -- later this year ahead of the product going on sale in March 2017, as the Japanese gaming giant reports a huge fall in revenue. The company announced the NX news at the same time as it revealed that for the fiscal year ending March 31, its earnings plunged 60.6 percent to 16.5 million yen ( 148 million) on revenue of 4.53 billion, down 8 percent. The company has struggled to compete with the Xbox One from Microsoft and Sony's PlayStation 4, with the Wii U failing to replicate the huge success the company experienced with the original Wii. Nintendo failed to give any details about the new console, but quashed speculation about a reveal at the E3 gaming trade show in June, saying the company would be focusing on its new game "The Legend of Zelda" in Los Angeles. Not much is known about the Nintendo NX, with Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima telling Time earlier this year that the console would not simply be an update to its current model.

The two new Raspberry Pi cameras have a resolution of 8MP and feature an image sensor that enables the board to capture 3280 x 2464 pixel static images. The v2 cameras have video capability of 1080p30, 720p60 and 640x480p90 video, and link to the Raspberry Pi board through a dedicated CSi interface.
