Artificial Intelligence Start-up Umbo CV Raises 2.8M Seed Round to Bring Deep Neural Network to the Professional Security Industry

#artificialintelligence

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Mar 28, 2016) - Umbo CV, an artificial intelligence start-up and provider of event recognition systems that think and learn like humans for the professional security industry, announced that it completed a 2.8 million round of seed funding led by AppWorks Ventures. Also participating were Mesh Ventures, Fortune Global 500 Wistron Corp. and Phison Electronics. Up to now, the security industry has grappled with ways to receive real-time notifications of intruders or incidents, having tested pre-defined algorithms-based systems that failed. Umbo CV aims to solve this problem. The company has developed algorithms to link images from multiple cameras, thus giving machines a more in-depth understanding of real-time occurrences.

Value Based Healthcare Transformation Spurs Innovative Opportunities for Industry Participants

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence and wearables thrive across healthcare sectors, says Frost & Sullivan MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. While pharma companies have been seeking tools for tracking the effectiveness of therapeutics, imaging companies have been augmenting the interpretability of scans through cognitive pattern interpretation. For complimentary access to more information on this research, please visit: http://frost.ly/2b. Approximately 24 percent of consumers currently use mobile apps to track health and wellness, 16 percent use wearable sensors and 29 percent use electronic personal health records. Significantly, 47 percent of consumers reported they would consider using wearables in the near future, prompting technology developers to design wearables with advanced sensing, capture and analytical functionalities.

Grishin Robotics Raises 100M Fund to Pursue Trillion-Dollar Opportunity

#artificialintelligence

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 11, 2016) - Grishin Robotics announces new 100 million fund, four times the size of its initial 25 million fund, announced in mid-2012. Originally one of the first exclusively robotics funds in the world, the firm now expands its investment focus to companies involved in the "Hardware Revolution" and becomes one of the ecosystem's largest players. While Dmitry self-financed Grishin Robotics' investments until now, a number of institutional and individual investors from Europe and the U.S. became partners in this new fund. Until recently, people mainly thought about robots as multi-functional products in humanoid form-factor. Today single-purpose devices, combining sensors with software and data analytics components, have the potential to radically automate the physical world around us -- eliminating "dirty, dull & dangerous" tasks from our lives and, thus, realizing the ultimate purpose of robotics.

Contract review platform co LawGeex raises 2.5m - Globes English

#artificialintelligence

Israeli online contract review platform LawGeex announced today 2.5 million in funding from Lool Ventures and LionBird and angel investors Eilon Tirosh and Rami Lipman. The startup has also launched its online contract review solution free of charge for consumers. LawGeex allows consumers to upload any type of contract to its platform and receive, within 24 hours, an in-depth report of what's good, bad and even missing from their contract. Currently reviewing over 20 types of contracts, the free solution begins with employment agreements, with more contract types to be offered for free in the near future. LawGeex cofounder and CEO Noory Bechor said, "The driving force behind LawGeex is the belief that no one should sign a contract that they don't fully understand. An astounding 33% of Americans need a lawyer every year but do not hire one, either because they can't afford to or did not know where to turn. This ultimately leads to one-sided negotiations and unfair results. LawGeex has already earned the trust of thousands of users while ensuring quality and transparency, leveling the playing field when it comes to contract negotiations. Our machine learning platform has already reviewed over tens of thousands of contracts, many of which are employment contracts from some of the world's largest tech companies such as Apple, Google, and Facebook. We make sure all employees get a fair deal."

The iOS 10 Apple Event Will Take Place June 13, Says Siri

Popular Science

The dates for Apple's developers' conference have been revealed by none other than Siri Apple is known for announcing new hardware and software by taking to the stage and giving its creations the star treatment. The iPhone, iPod and iPad were revealed this way, new versions of Mac and iOS software were revealed this way and, most recently, the iPhone SE was revealed this way. Every June, the tech giant introduces software improvements for its various products and this June is no different. Unfortunately for Apple, Siri just spilled the beans on where and when that presentation will take place: Apple's Worldwide Developers' Conference (WWDC) 2016 will take place June 13-17 in San Francisco. The WWDC keynote always takes place the first day of the conference.

Apple WWDC 16: iOS 10 event will take place on 16 June, Apple confirms

The Independent - Tech

Nasa has announced that it has found evidence of flowing water on Mars. Scientists have long speculated that Recurring Slope Lineae -- or dark patches -- on Mars were made up of briny water but the new findings prove that those patches are caused by liquid water, which it has established by finding hydrated salts. Several hundred camped outside the London store in Covent Garden. The 6s will have new features like a vastly improved camera and a pressure-sensitive "3D Touch" display

IntelliFlux Artificial Intelligence-Based Control System from Water Planet Powers Demonstrations

#artificialintelligence

The project, which is being done with Sweetwater Tech Resources, utilizes Water Planet's IMS-5000 Integrated Produced Water Treatment Solution powered by IntelliFlux. The IMS-5000 technology used in the pilot is an integrated mechanical and membrane filtration system that incorporates ceramic membranes to filter the water. It was developed to perform in oil & gas produced water treatment, one of the most challenging water treatment applications on the planet. As part of the project, Water Planet is also running a standard reverse osmosis unit to desalt the brackish water that is left after treatment by the ceramic ultrafiltration membranes. "We are currently running a series of demonstrations using a range of waters provided by a consortium of California oil producers to evaluate treating produced water for potential use in agricultural irrigation.

The 'Ai's have it as Aliyun introduces AI robot

IBM Extends Health Care Bet With Under Armour, Medtronic

#artificialintelligence

IBM announced a deal with sports and fitness retailer Under Armour Inc. to use machine learning technology from Watson and showed off an application for diabetic care developed with the supercomputer's data, highlighting the company's effort to expand Watson's capabilities for the health-care industry. IBM and Under Armour released an updated fitness application for Apple Inc.'s iPhones that uses data powered by Watson, IBM Chief Executive Officer Ginni Rometty said Wednesday in a speech at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Separately, Medtronic Plc CEO Omar Ishrak joined Rometty on stage to unveil a prototype for a diabetes-management app that tests have shown may be capable of predicting hypoglycemic events as early as three hours in advance. The application still needs to go through regulatory review -- it will roll out this summer, Rometty said. The ability to predict the hypoglycemic events is a "breakthrough," she said.
