Google announces new machine learning capabilities for Firebase - SD Times

#artificialintelligence

Firebase's development platform will receive a series of updates focused on tightening the integration of Firebase services and incorporating more machine learning technology into the toolkit, the Google-owned company announced today at the Firebase Dev Summit in Amsterdam. Firebase is a mobile platform for developing high-quality applications. The first notable update is the integration of Crashlytics by Fabric, which Google acquired in January. Crashlytics enables uses to track, prioritize, and fix stability issues within applications in real time. The integration will be rolled out over the next couple of weeks.

Cogito AI Day: Artificial Intelligence for business and everyday life with less hype, more benefits

#artificialintelligence

Earlier this year, Forbes included Expert System in the list of companies forging the next generation of Artificial Intelligence systems. "The impact of AI in the near future will be even more decisive," said Stefano Spaggiari, CEO, Expert System. "Artificial Intelligence allows companies to overcome the purely'numerical' management of data by adding the ability to understand and manage information in a way that captures the maximum business value." Keynote speaker Boris Evelson, VP and Principal Analyst, Forrester Research, noted that one of the most important macro-applications of Artificial Intelligence in the business world is for understanding and making use of the incredible volumes of information that companies already collect. In fact, the current rate of growth in the adoption of AI technologies is comparable to a'tsunami'.

Keep up with the latest news from Wisconsin's innovation community with these recent headlines: The four-year college's goal in constructing the 64,000-square-foot research center is to position MSOE "at the forefront in artificial intelligence, deep learning, cybersecurity, robotics, computing, and other next-generation technologies," according to a press release. The facility will have classrooms, laboratories, an auditorium, and space for businesses that partner with MSOE, the school said. MSOE plans to break ground on the new center by mid-2018. Phoenix sells neutron generators and other machines to organizations in industries ranging from healthcare to defense to renewable energy. The company plans to use some of the proceeds from the funding round to construct a new headquarters that can house all of its workers and equipment.

2017 Tech Growth Exceeds Expectations: Industry Revenue to Reach Record Levels as Emerging Categorie

#artificialintelligence

Consumer enthusiasm for both emerging technology and resilient mature categories is exceeding expectations โ€“ driving the U.S. consumer technology industry to an estimated 3.2 percent revenue growth in 2017, earning $321 billion in retail revenues ($251 billion wholesale), according to new research from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). The latest edition of CTA's semi-annual industry report, U.S. Consumer Technology Sales and Forecasts, also projects drones, OLED TV and virtual reality (VR) technology will each cross the $1 billion revenue milestone for the first time this year. "Driven by consumer demand for the products we already know and love, as well as new, innovative technologies, revenue growth in the consumer technology industry is exceeding expectations," said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CTA. "Not only are breakthrough technologies changing our lives for the better โ€“ such as drones delivering medical supplies to remote areas or the use of VR in patient care โ€“ tech is also a key driver of the U.S. economy, outpacing GDP growth, and reinforcing America's role as a global leader in innovation." CTA's semi-annual report serves as a benchmark for the consumer technology industry, charting the size and growth of underlying product categories.

AWS Announces Availability of P3 Instances for Amazon EC2

#artificialintelligence

The first instances to include NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPUs, P3 instances are the most powerful GPU instances available in the cloud. P3 instances allow customers to build and deploy advanced applications with up to 14 times better performance than previous-generation Amazon EC2 GPU compute instances, and reduce training of machine learning applications from days to hours. With up to eight NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPUs, P3 instances provide up to one petaflop of mixed-precision, 125 teraflops of single-precision, and 62 teraflops of double-precision floating point performance, as well as a 300 GB/s second-generation NVIDIA NVLink interconnect that enables high-speed, low-latency GPU-to-GPU communication. P3 instances also feature up to 64 vCPUs based on custom Intel Xeon E5 (Broadwell) processors, 488 GB of DRAM, and 25 Gbps of dedicated aggregate network bandwidth using the Elastic Network Adapter (ENA). "When we launched our P2 instances last year, we couldn't believe how quickly people adopted them," said Matt Garman, Vice President of Amazon EC2.

Machine learning-based threat detection is coming to your smartphone

#artificialintelligence

Part of a growing trend, MobileIron announced today that it is adding machine learning-based threat-detection software to its enterprise mobility management (EMM) client, which it said will help address an increase in mobile attacks. The Mountain View, Calif.-based company said it has partnered with Zimperium, a maker of machine learning-based behavioral analysis and threat detection software that monitors mobile devices for nefarious activity and apps. MobileIron said it will integrate Zimperium's z9 Engine software with its security and compliance client. The software will reside on users' iOS or Android smartphones or tablets, and it will also become a part of IT administrators' EMM control consoles. That upgrade to MobileIron's EMM client will "automate the process of detecting and responding to mobile threats," MobileIron stated.
