Why Europe's privacy clampdown may not solve Facebook's data scandal woes

FOX News

The latest Fox News Poll finds that nearly three-quarters (73 percent) of current users say they care if Facebook shares their information with others, and a large 43 percent minority have thought about deleting their account in order to protect their privacy. Think about your interaction with Facebook as a relationship. Now, imagine being at dinner with someone new and they say they are recording the conversation, taking your fingerprints, tracking your movements and they are going to share all of that data with everyone--without your knowledge or consent. According to Matt Erickson, executive director at the Digital Privacy Alliance, that unpleasant scenario is what his colleagues are working against and what Europe's sweeping new privacy regulations taking effect on May 25 are meant to help prevent. During his recent Capitol Hill testimony, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said his company already has controls in place to comply with Europe's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and told lawmakers they'd likely extend some of those protections to its 2.2 billion users globally.

Artificial Intelligence And Digital Storage At Dell Technologies World

#artificialintelligence

At the Dell Technologies World the company continued its flash first, NVMe end-to-end, storage approach with its new products. The company was also incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities into its server and storage products. Michael Dell led an interesting announcement of new server and storage products that included applications for Dell products such as for New Jersey based AeroFarms factory farms and a doctor from USC talking about using Dell-based VR for treatment of PTSD. Dell introduced its Dell EMC PowerMax, which the company said it built for mission-critical applications and is engineered with end-to-end NVMe, ready for Storage Class Memory (SCM) and NVMe over Fabrics (NVMe-oF). . Dell says that they have a seamless migration path from the older VMAX product.

Google Is Latest 'Big Three' Cloud Provider to Offer V100 GPUs

#artificialintelligence

Google announced today that Nvidia Tesla V100 GPUs are now available in public beta on its Google Cloud Platform (GCP), accessible through its infrastructure-as-a-service offering Compute Engine and on Kubernetes Engine, its managed environment for deploying containerized applications. The cloud giant also announced general availability of Nvidia's previous-generation P100 parts, in public beta on Google's platform since September 2017. The Tesla V100 is Nvidia's highest-end datacenter GPU, aimed at high-performance computing and machine learning workloads. The first product based on the Volta architecture, unveiled by Nvidia in May 2017, the Tesla V100 for NVLink offers 125 teraflops of mixed-precision floating point, 15.7 teraflops of single-precision floating point, and 7.8 teraflops of double-precision floating point performance. The NVLink 2.0 interconnect provides up to 300GB/s of GPU-to-GPU bandwidth, nearly 10x the data throughput offered by traditional PCIe, boosting performance on deep learning and HPC workloads by up to 40 percent, according to Nvidia.

Artificial Intelligence Services

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) has worked its way into a variety of industries, from the obvious (autonomous vehicles) to the hidden (anti-money laundering due diligence). But while organizations are clearly recognizing the value associated with incorporating AI into their business processes, they also are encountering a number of challenges with integrating this new intelligence into their operational processes. The value of using algorithms to unmask hidden patterns and then correlate findings with other seemingly unrelated variables to create real "intelligence" is becoming increasingly clear with each completed proof-of-concept (POC) project. But it is the larger, organization-wide deployment of AI that will generate the return on investment (ROI) that companies large and small have been seeking. To fully access the operational and economic benefits of AI, however, organizations are realizing that, in most cases, enabling AI is not a plug-and-play proposition.

Artificial Intelligence for Telecommunications Applications

#artificialintelligence

The telecommunication service provider industry is one of the biggest businesses in the world. It also has historically been a capital-intensive industry with high fixed costs, which has put pressure on telecom operators to control their variable costs, particularly human capital. This tension surrounding profitability is intensifying. Many telecom operators crossed the point where revenue per bit is lower than cost per bit in 2017. Telecom operators are threatened by fast and highly-efficient web-scale companies and are straining under the challenge posed by digital transformation.

Atlantic AI Labs Opens Artificial Intelligence Research Center in Africa
