IBM brings its Watson AI to all cloud platforms

#artificialintelligence

IBM Corp announced on Tuesday that some of its Watson artificial intelligence services will now work on rival cloud computing providers as it seeks to win over customers that want greater flexibility in how they store and analyse data. The announcement builds on IBM's moves to position its services as compatible with nearly any form of computer infrastructure a customer wants to operate. Other efforts include a pending acquisition of open-source software company Red Hat for $34 billion. With the change, companies will be able to use Watson AI tools such as Watson Assistant, which can help them develop conversational services such as a virtual customer service agent, in mobile apps hosted on Amazon.com "With most large organizations storing data across hybrid cloud environments, they need the freedom and choice to apply AI to their data wherever it is stored," Rob Thomas, general manager of IBM Data and AI, said in a news release on Tuesday as it opened "Think," its annual conference in San Francisco to showcase new technology.

GLOBAL ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) IN TELECOMMUNICATION MARKET FORECAST 2019-2027

#artificialintelligence

KEY FINDINGS The automated chatbots, personalized offers, and efficiently streamlined customer service processes can be managed to provide enhanced customer service by the telecommunication services if the Artificial Intelligence gets integrated with the former. By assimilating advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, etc. and 5G system, the telecommunication operators, can enhance and implement realization of high levels of self-organization, intelligent management and fault-free networks that are much more reliable as compared to the earlier networks. Advantages like detection of flaws in the network, network security, network optimization & offer virtual assistance are influencing the global market for Artificial Intelligence in telecommunication to propel vigorously at a CAGR of 42.16% from 2019-2027, as estimated by Inkwood Research. Furthermore, the incorporation of artificial intelligence technologies with upcoming wireless networks is appraised to increase the demand & adoption of such artificial intelligence tools & services in the telecommunication sector. MARKET INSIGHTS The upsurge in mobile data traffic & smartphone users across the world and the integration of AI with newer wireless networks will necessarily drive the global AI in the telecom market.Concerns related to incompatibility, the unreliability of artificial intelligence algorithms, lack of skilled personnel & difficulties in the protection of confidential & private data are the primary challenges faced by the market players.

IBM Watson Machine Learning for z/OS, V2.1 improves deployment flexibility with a new architecture on IBM z/OS; IBM Db2 AI for z/OS, V1.2 builds on Watson Machine Learning for z/OS to help optimize the performance of IBM Db2 for z/OS subsystems

#artificialintelligence

With version 2.1, IBM Machine Learning for z/OS is rebranded to IBM Watson Machine Learning for z/OS. It offers a hybrid cloud approach to model development and model deployment lifecycle management and collaboration that is designed to help organizations innovate and transform on an enterprise scale. It helps data scientists more quickly develop, deploy, and monitor behavioral models that continually learn as new data is introduced. IBM Db2 AI for z/OS, V1.2, a separately licensed product, uses machine learning to improve the operational performance of Db2 for z/OS systems. Watson Machine Learning for z/OS, V2.1 is a key component for operationalizing machine learning models on z/OS. It provides the ability to deploy models on z/OS that were developed and trained in the cloud, on IBM Z or on non IBM Z platforms. This provides greater deployment flexibility through a new architecture where model management, administration, and scoring services install and execute on z/OS. The new version includes capabilities that were previously separately available through IBM Open Data Analytics for z/OS to help simplify the acquisition, installation, and configuration of the product. Watson Machine Learning for z/OS provides an environment that fosters collaboration to enable innovation and transformation on an enterprise scale.

Trump Signs EO Targeting China's Growing Dominance In Artificial Intelligence

#artificialintelligence

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday designed to beef up how the U.S. approaches artificial intelligence. The effort comes as China continues making inroads in AI development. The so-called American AI Initiative does not directly target the communist country, but some experts believe approach leaves no doubt about the administration's designs. The move is light on details but comes as China's telecommunications industry comes under withering criticism. "Continued American leadership in Artificial Intelligence is of paramount importance to maintaining the economic and national security of the United States," Trump noted in a press statement attached to the order.

'Assassin's Creed III Remastered' release date is set for March 29th

Engadget

The Revolutionary War never looked so good. Ubisoft announced today that it will be reaching into its vault and giving Assassin's Creed III a fresh coat of paint with a remastered edition, set to drop on March 29th. The new, higher resolution version of the classic title will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC -- though there's been no mention of a Nintendo Switch version for the time being. According to Ubisoft, Assassin's Creed III Remastered will offer 4K and HDR support that will make the title, first released in 2012, look like a modern release. The game has also received some tweaks and improvements to gameplay mechanics that should squash some of the clunkiness present in the original release.

JD iCity Makes A Successful Appearance at AAAI 2019

#artificialintelligence

In his keynote speech, Zheng explained that the concept of urban computing includes urban perception & data acquisition, big data management, data-driven analysis and services provided. Zheng said that the urban perception & data acquisition process is facing lots of challenges, including acquiring more data with limited resources; insufficient data due to the extreme lack of sensors in cities; and serious data loss issue due to faulty sensors or other factors. To address these challenges, Zheng proposed to unify different types of data in urban spaces, such as crowd flow data, traffic flow, air quality, weather data and social media data into unified spatial-temporal data types, and then optimize the management of those data utilizing multiple specially designed spatial-temporal indexes. Zheng gave an example of how these techniques help with detecting parking violations by mining the massive trajectory data of shared bicycles. When talking about the layer of data-driven analysis in cities, Zheng emphasized that the structure of spatio-temporal data is different from simple text and image data.
