Artificial Intelligence-Focused Companies Advance Programming BioSpace

#artificialintelligence

The use of artificial intelligence and machine learning is almost commonplace in the biotech and pharma industry as multiple companies are harnessing the power to aid in drug discovery and development. This week more companies have announced advancements in their AI programming. This morning, San Francisco-based Notable Labs announced it secured $40 million in a Series B funding round to use its artificial intelligence platform to advance cancer drug development. The company's approach is aimed at predicting which types of patients are most likely to respond to a drug in as little as five days. The process is designed to help physicians make more informed decisions about which clinical trials will be effective with patients and can also benefit the likelihood of a trial's success by matching the right patients to the right trial.

Gartner Survey Reveals Leading Organizations Expect to Double the Number of AI Projects In Place Within the Next Year

#artificialintelligence

Organizations that are working with artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) have, on average, four AI/ML projects in place, according to a recent survey by Gartner, Inc. Of all respondents, 59% said that they have AI deployed today. The Gartner "AI and ML Development Strategies" study was conducted via an online survey in December 2018 with 106 Gartner Research Circle Members โ€“ a Gartner-managed panel composed of IT and IT/business professionals. Participants were required to be knowledgeable about the business and technology aspects of ML or AI either currently deployed or in planning at their organizations. "We see a substantial acceleration in AI adoption this year," said Jim Hare, research vice president at Gartner.

Secretive AI startup Neuralink backed by Elon Musk will make its first announcement TOMORROW

Daily Mail - Science & tech

An Elon Musk-backed startup looking to connect human brains to computers will make a major announcement on Tuesday, according to a recent tweet from the CEO. The mysterious announcement, which Musk chose not to elaborate on in his tweet, follows years of radio silence from the company and was foreshadowed by Musk -- the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX -- earlier this year. The event will take place in San Francisco and will presumably have something to with what the company's website calls an'ultra high bandwidth brain-machine interfaces to connect humans and computers.' Elon Musk said his mysterious Neuralink startup will make an announcement tomorrow for the first time in two years. While many tech leaders push that AI will become invaluable to humanity, others argue it poses a threat to our species.

Microsoft's $399 Azure Kinect AI camera is now shipping in the US and China โ€“ TechCrunch

#artificialintelligence

Earlier this year, at MWC, Microsoft announced the return of its Kinect sensor in the form of an AI developer kit. The $399 Azure Kinect DK camera system includes a 1MP depth camera, 360-degree microphone, 12MP RGB camera and an orientation sensor, all in a relatively small package. The kit has been available for pre-order for a few months now, but as the company announced today, it's now generally available and shipping to pre-order customers in the U.S. and China. Unlike the original Kinect, which launched as an Xbox gaming accessory that never quite caught on, the Azure Kinect is all business. It's meant to give developers a platform to experiment with AI tools and plug into Azure's ecosystem of machine learning services (though using Azure is not mandatory).

Despite recent doom-and-gloom anecdotal reporting, a nationwide survey of 1,001 workers in the United States (U.S.) finds that 70% have an upbeat attitude toward new workplace technologies involving artificial intelligence (AI), such as chatbots, robots and augmented reality. Only 5% say they dislike new technology for putting their jobs at risk today. In fact, 32% of U.S. respondents feel AI will have a positive impact on their job in the next five years, increasing from 26% today. Just 19% of those surveyed express fear that AI/bots could swallow their jobs within the next decade. These findings stem from new research by Genesys (www.genesys.com),
