We expect this collaboration with Amazon and AWS will enable a new wave of innovation that can lead and transform the future of health care."

A.I. Offers Jobs Beyond Data Science

#artificialintelligence

When Amazon announced plans to "up-skill" 100,000 American employees for a more tech-based workplace, the company said that over the last five years its fastest-growing jobs have been spawned by systems that gather, process and analyze data. For example, the number of data mapping specialists Amazon employs increased by 832 percent during that time; the number of data scientists grew 505 percent, and the number of business analysts rose 160 percent. But it's also worth noting the dramatic growth in non-technology roles that have been touched, in one way or another, by A.I. Jobs such as logistics coordinator, process improvement manager and transportation specialist expanded by over 400 percent. "A.I. creates a brand-new class of products that will require humans to build, maintain and deploy," said Armen Berjikly, senior director of strategy for Weston, Fla.-based Ultimate Software. "A self-driving car will not make mechanics obsolete and will create a new class of programmers to boot. Analytics software will require a human to interpret, challenge and distribute results in the human world, and so on."

NEORIS Forges Global Partnership with Neo4j to Augment Human Intelligence and Data Management Capabilities at Scale

#artificialintelligence

NEORIS, a tech consultancy that accelerates the digital capabilities of enterprises, today announced their global partnership with Neo4j, the leader in graph databases, to deliver unparalleled insights and capabilities to their clients around the world. The NEORIS Augmented Intelligence Platform now integrates Neo4j's leading graph database technology into its Knowledge Fabric Layer, enabling more intuitive data analysis and machine learning capabilities which are augmented by connected data for deeper insights, The platform serves as the key strategic enabler of NEORIS' recently launched Augmented Intelligence Practice by accelerating an enterprise's time to actionable insights. The Augmented Intelligence Platform is composed of four logical layers, namely Information Harvesting, Knowledge Fabric, Enterprise AI, and Human-centered Interfaces, for a complete framework that is poised to accelerate the deployment of next-generation, graph-powered AI digital solutions. "Artificial intelligence continues its push into areas such as smart supply-chains, advanced fraud management, risk management, regulatory compliance and delivering hyper-personalized products and services. The convergence of AI, graph technology and analytics provides an immense opportunity to develop learning applications grounded in the context of connected data, and thus capable of situational awareness. Aggregating large amounts of data across organizational silos, establishing intelligent relationships and connecting this knowledge with advanced AI models are redefining businesses," said Anthony DeLima, Global CTO and Head of NEORIS U.S. "We are excited about this partnership for many reasons, but most notably because it will enable us to work with our clients to deliver an entirely new generation of solutions that augment human thinking and decision-making."

Five Providers of Computer Vision Software Named IDC Innovators

#artificialintelligence

International Data Corporation (IDC) recently published an IDC Innovators report profiling five companies that offer compelling and differentiated computer vision software. The five companies are Algolux, Deep Vision AI, Sighthound, ViSenze, and Umbo CV. Computer vision is an AI technology that allows computers to understand and label images. Use cases include video surveillance, driverless car testing, daily medical diagnostics, and monitoring the health of crops and livestock. AI is used for pattern recognition and learning techniques driven largely by machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) algorithms that bring visual understanding capabilities in a growing variety of hardware and software applications.

Remarks by High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini at the press conference following the Informal Meeting of EU Defence Ministers

#artificialintelligence

Let me start by thanking Antti [Kaikkonen, Minister of Defence of Finland] and all the Finnish colleagues for an excellent couple of days โ€“ 24 hours - of this informal meeting of the European Union Member States' Defence Ministers. It has been extremely productive and intense. Our agenda has been very heavy โ€“ heavy in terms of content, but light in terms of the kind of approach and relations we have had. The wonderful Helsinki sun has helped establishing a friendly atmosphere and I would say that the exchanges have been extremely consensual, productive and positive. Thank you for that, because your hospitality has contributed to set a positive and constructive tone.

BAE wins DARPA contract to develop machine learning technology for space operations - SpaceNews.com

#artificialintelligence

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency awarded BAE Systems the second phase of an existing $12.8 million contract to develop digital tools to test and evaluate technologies for space command and control. The second phase focuses on the use of machine learning for space and situational awareness, the company announced Aug. 13. BAE Systems originally won the contract for the Hallmark Tools, Capabilities, and Evaluation Methodology (Hallmark-TCEM) program in November 2017. The program is to help operators improve their understanding of space events and their ability to take actions in response to situations that might affect U.S. satellites in space. The work is being performed by BAE Systems' Fast Labs research and development division.

Zenuity and CERN team up on fast machine learning for autonomous driving

#artificialintelligence

Zenuity, the autonomous driving software company headquartered in Sweden, has become the first automotive company to team up with CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, in the development of fast machine learning for autonomous drive cars. A fundamental challenge in the development of autonomous drive (AD) cars is the interpretation of the huge quantities of data generated by normal driving conditions, such as identifying pedestrians and vehicles with the sensors on the car, including cameras, lidar and radars. Addressing these issues is crucial for the development of safe AD cars and is a key part of Zenuity's long-term ambition to speed up the development of vehicles that will completely eliminate car collisions and associated injuries and fatalities. Broadly speaking, it is hoped this collaboration with CERN will ultimately help Zenuity develop AD cars that can reach decisions and make predictions more quickly, thus avoiding accidents. One of the main quests at CERN is to study the standard model of particle physics by collecting large quantities of data originating from particle collisions produced by CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
