Canon Medical's Ultra-High Resolution CT Receives FDA Clearance for Artificial Intelligence-Based Image Reconstruction Technology BioSpace
WIRE)-- Canon Medical Systems USA, Inc. has received 510(k) clearance on its Advanced Intelligent Clear-IQ Engine (AiCE) for the Aquilion PrecisionTM further expanding access to its new deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) image reconstruction technology. This technology, now available on both the Aquilion Precision and Aquilion ONE / GENESIS EditionTM premium CT systems, uses a deep learning algorithm to differentiate signal from noise so that it can suppress noise while enhancing signal, forging a new frontier for CT image reconstruction. Aquilion Precision - the world's first Ultra-High Resolution CT provides 2 times the resolution of conventional CT, revealing detail that is typically only seen in Cath labs. With AiCE, the system now enables clinicians to perform super-high resolution studies at doses equivalent to standard resolution CT (with traditional hybrid iterative reconstruction techniques). AiCE learns from the high image quality of Model Based Iterative Reconstruction (MBIR) to reconstruct CT images with improved high contrast spatial resolution*.
Nvidia Reveals EGX Edge Supercomputing Platform For AI, IoT And 5G
Nvidia has revealed its new EGX edge supercomputing platform, a new push from the chipmaker to put GPUs at the forefront of artificial intelligence, IoT and 5G network infrastructure for edge environments such as factory floors, manufacturing inspection lines and city streets. The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company said the new EGX platform, announced at Mobile World Congress in Los Angeles on Monday, has already been adopted by Walmart, BMW, Procter & Gamble, Samsung Electronics, NTT East as well as the cities of San Francisco and Las Vegas. In addition, the company announced a new EGX integration with Microsoft Azure for edge-to-cloud AI capabilities. The new high-performance, cloud-native EGX platform, which combines Nvidia's CUDA-X software libraries and Nvidia's certified GPU servers and devices, is targeting demanding compute workloads that need to be processed close to where the data is collected. "We've entered a new era, where billions of always-on IoT sensors will be connected by 5G and processed by AI," Jensen Huang, Nvidia's CEO and founder, said in a statement.
Red Hat and NVIDIA Team to Bring High-Performance, Software-Defined 5G RAN to Telecoms Industry
VIDIA and Red Hat, the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced they are expanding their alliance to deliver high-performance, software-defined 5G wireless infrastructure, running on Red Hat OpenShift, to the telecoms industry. The next generation of mobile networks won't be defined by inflexible, proprietary solutions -- it will be founded in open cloud-native technologies. The collaboration, unveiled by NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang during his keynote at MWC Los Angeles, can help telcos transition to 5G networks capable of running a range of software-defined edge workloads. Work will initially focus on 5G radio access networks (RAN), aimed at making AI-enabled applications more accessible at the telco edge. Red Hat and NVIDIA are building on their announcement earlier this year that they are accelerating adoption of Kubernetes in enterprise data centers.
Abu Dhabi unveils world's first Artificial Intelligence university 7wData
The capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the launch of the world's first university dedicated to Artificial Intelligence, in a bid to stay ahead of the disruptive technologies and diversify its economy from the reliance on oil. Named after the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and de facto leader of the UAE who has long championed science and technology development in UAE, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) will offer academic post-graduate (MSc and PhD) courses in three key fields of AI โ computer vision, machine learning and natural language processing โ with access to some of the world's most advanced AI systems to unleash its full potentials. All graduate-level students admitted to the school will be eligible for a full scholarship along with several benefits such as a monthly allowance, accommodation arrangements and health insurance. The first class of graduate students is scheduled to start coursework at MBZUAI campus in Masdar City, a new urban area in Abu Dhabi, in September 2020. "MBZUAI aligns with the vision of the UAE leadership that is based on sustainable development, progress and the overall well-being of humanity and underpinned by capacity-building and active participation in finding practical solutions based on innovation and state-of-the-art technology," said Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State, who also served as Chair of the university's Board of Trustees, at the press conference in Abu Dhabi.
Gartner Identifies the Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2020
Gartner, Inc. today highlighted the top strategic technology trends that organizations need to explore in 2020. Analysts presented their findings during Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo, which is taking place here through Thursday. Gartner defines a strategic technology trend as one with substantial disruptive potential that is beginning to break out of an emerging state into broader impact and use, or which is rapidly growing with a high degree of volatility reaching tipping points over the next five years. "People-centric smart spaces are the structure used to organize and evaluate the primary impact of the Gartner top strategic technology trends for 2020," said David Cearley, vice president and Gartner Fellow. "Putting people at the center of your technology strategy highlights one of the most important aspects of technology -- how it impacts customers, employees, business partners, society or other key constituencies. Arguably all actions of the organization can be attributed to how it impacts these individuals and groups either directly or indirectly. This is a people-centric approach."
HELIX RE announces Enhanced Cloud Technology
HELIXRE announces the launch of Enhanced Cloud Technology, an application of geometric deep learning (GDL) to greatly increase the benefits of digital building plans. HELIXRE now applies GDL to distinguish contents of multi-billion point clouds to allow semantic understanding of building spaces, identifying specific elements like walls, floors, ceilings, furniture, and typical office clutter. Defining and isolating these elements means no one creates more accurate building clouds faster and more cost efficiently than HELIXRE. GDL is a relatively new and cutting-edge form of machine learning, overcoming limitations of convolutional neural networks that solve 2D problems like image recognition, but are not well suited to the complexity of 3D spaces. By creating superpoints, HELIXRE reduces the problem domain to a smaller set of points to which graph convolutions are applied.
