Eyenuk Successfully Fulfills Contract Awarded by Public Health England for Artificial Intelligence Grading of Retinal Images BioSpace

#artificialintelligence

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Eyenuk, Inc., a global artificial intelligence (AI) medical technology and services company and the leader in real-world applications for AI Eye Screening, announced that it has successfully fulfilled the contract awarded by Public Health England (PHE) to use Eyenuk's EyeArt AI Eye Screening System to grade 60,000 patient image sets from 6 different National Health Service (NHS) Diabetic Eye Screening Programmes in England. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a vision-threatening complication of diabetes and a leading cause of preventable vision loss globally.1 In England, an estimated 4.6 million are living with diabetes, one-third of whom are at risk of developing DR. Diabetes has become a growing health concern as the number of people diagnosed with diabetes in the U.K. has more than doubled in the last 20 years.2 The U.K. has been leading the world in diabetic retinopathy screening, achieving patient uptake rates of over 80% (screening nearly 2.5 million diabetes patients annually),3 as compared with most parts of the world where typically less than half of diabetes patients receive annual eye screening.4 As a result, diabetic retinopathy is no longer the leading cause of blindness in the working age group in England.5

CIMON-2 makes its successful debut on the ISS

#artificialintelligence

Friedrichshafen, 15 April 2020 – CIMON-2, the updated version of the CIMON astronaut assistant, developed and built by Airbus for the German Aerospace Center Space Administration (DLR), has now demonstrated its capabilities during initial tests on the International Space Station (ISS). The free-flying, spherical technology demonstrator with artificial intelligence (AI) showed off a number of its features during interactions with ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano. CIMON-2 started its journey to the ISS on 05 December 2019, launching with the CRS-19 supply mission from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. It is scheduled to stay on the ISS for up to three years. Just shy of two months after the successful first use of CIMON-2, the project team has now received the analysis.

Amazon Elastic Inference adds support for PyTorch machine learning models - SiliconANGLE

myDevices and éolane Join Forces to Help Wastewater Treatment Facilities Around the World Prevent Sewage Backups Caused by the COVID-19 Crisis

#artificialintelligence

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sewage systems are impacted as consumers flush disinfectant wipes, paper towels, and napkins, an unintended consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Wipes get caught on misaligned pipe joints choking sewer lines and wrapping around pump motors, causing clogs, excessive strain, and infrastructure damage. These clogs can result in overflows of raw sewage into local rivers and lakes, and creating backups into people's homes. Significant blockages often require municipal staff to clear them, at a time when efforts and tax dollars need to be focused on critical services. "Wastewater treatment facilities around the state already are reporting issues with their sewer management collection systems," the California State Water Board said in a statement. "Wipes are among the leading causes of sewer system backups, impacting sewer system and treatment plant pumps and treatment systems."
