Designed to help future-ready clients' data centers and enable digital transformation, the breakthrough WekaFS solution was architected to leverage the performance benefits of flash, high-speed networking, and compute acceleration technologies (like GPUs) whether the data resides on-premises, in the public cloud, or as a hybrid model. WekaFS stands out as a leading solution because it gives clients the leverage to get more value out of their compute resources, providing a full enterprise-grade solution with advanced security and full cloud integration.

Thales and Atos create the European champion in big data and artificial intelligence for defence and security

#artificialintelligence

Paris, May 27, 2021 โ€“ Atos and Thales announce the creation of Athea, a joint venture that will develop a sovereign big data and artificial intelligence platform for public and private sector players in the defence, intelligence and internal state security communities. Athea will draw on the experience gained by both companies from the demonstration phase of the ARTEMIS programme, the big data platform of the French Ministry of Armed Forces. The contract to optimise and prepare the full-scale roll-out of the ARTEMIS platform was also awarded jointly to the two leaders by the French Defense Procurement Agency on April 30, 2021. The new joint venture will initially serve the French market before addressing European requirements at a later date. With the exponential rise in the number of sources of information, and increased pressure to respond more quickly to potential issues, State agencies need to manage ever-greater volumes of heterogeneous data and accelerate the development of new AI applications where security and sovereignty are key.

Pega Process AI Delivers Self-Optimizing Process Automation

#artificialintelligence

Process AI turbocharges the value of process automation by applying powerful and proven real-time AI, event stream processing, machine learning, decisioning, and natural language processing (NLP) to any business process. These capabilities analyze millions of streaming events and immediately make intelligent decisions so each case gets quickly resolved. This enables enterprises to more effectively and efficiently resolve events โ€“ and even anticipate issues before they arise โ€“ so they deliver the best possible customer and employee experiences. For example, an insurance company can use Process AI to triage a surge of incoming claim requests after a major storm by automatically approving claims or routing more complex incidents to the best available agent; a financial services company can scan fraud alerts in real time and automatically open a case for a relevant security expert to investigate; or a manufacturer can analyze IOT-connected device signals and, if it predicts trouble on the horizon, proactively open a service ticket and notify a dealer and end customer to the potential issue. This helps ensure algorithms result in fair and balanced outcomes that avoid unintended bias.

BD Leverages Artificial Intelligence To Transform Microbiology Urine Testing

#artificialintelligence

BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) (NYSE: BDX), a leading global medical technology company, today announced the U.S. launch of a Urine Culture Application for use with the BD Kiestra lab automation incubation and imaging system that can transform the way microbiology labs approach urine culture analysis. Designed using artificial intelligence (AI) and leveraging the quality of BD BBL plated media, the application uses digital imaging and software algorithms to determine the amount of growth on a urine culture plate from clean caught and catheterized samples. The BD Kiestra system's intelligent incubation and imaging device uses high-throughput robotics to perform time series imaging, coupled with machine learning so that plates with no significant growth can be released for disposal and plates with significant growth automatically go into a queue for clinician analysis. In many labs, urine cultures make up a significant part of the daily workload -- however, the majority of those samples have no growth or non-significant growth and don't require any additional work-up. Batch review of large volumes of plates with non-significant growth and release can help medical laboratorians focus their time and expertise on more clinically relevant tasks.

Tesla Made News, but It's Being Overshadowed by Ford

#artificialintelligence

Autopilot is the name for Tesla's (ticker: TSLA) basic driver-assistance functions. Most auto makers offer comparable features, such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance. Tesla's Full-Self Driving, or FSD, system, available via a $10,000 upgrade, is a more advanced version of its driver-assistance features. The cameras combine with software that serves as the brains behind the vehicles' eyes. CEO Elon Musk said on the company's first-quarter earnings conference call in late April that the shift to an all-optical system, and developing its neural-network processing software, were critical elements to allowing cars to safely drive themselves in any setting.

Artificial Intelligence Workout Device Goes Global

#artificialintelligence

By September 2021, the company is slated for implementation of their technology in the most tech- forward training centers in Singapore. Moreover, it begins shipping product to its consumer purchasers and coaches who are equally excited to get their hands on the technology. "This technology represents a jump forward for our training group, allowing previously unavailable movement data to influence our training decisions, all in a portable form factor," said Carl de Vries, founder of Athletic Inc., one of BODbx's earliest users. While in-depth information on the type of feedback and guidance a user receives has been notably kept close to the company's chest, it is clear that pose analysis allows for everything from measures of fatigue to specific details about how an individual's body should be moving in order to correct form. Expect to see calorie counts, reps, and other usual suspects after your workout, too, not to mention the daily workout optimization algorithm.

IBM Think 2021- All In On Hybrid Cloud And AI

#artificialintelligence

IBM is in the middle of a company transformation. With CEO Arvind Krishna and President Jim Whitehurst at the helm for a year, the company is going all-in on the cloud with its Red Hat and other investments and getting in a better posture for growth and focus with its recent Kyndryl spin-out. At the same time, the company continues to create leading edge research output in hardware, software and the cloud and creating some very innovative products simultaneously. IBM made many announcements prior to THINK. The company announced the world's first 2nm nanosheet device here, check out an interview I had with IBM Cloud leader Howard Boville here, see Z mainframe as a service here, check out Steve McDowell's analysis of Spectrum Fusion here, and see Paul Smith Goodson's coverage of Qiskit Metal for quantum computing here.

"The use of the Urine Culture Application to automatically organize specimens into meaningful worklists driven by user-defined expert rules for critical criteria such as'high risk patients' or'complex specimens' will help laboratories work more efficiently and better prioritize their efforts to focus on the most critical and complex specimens," said Cecilia Soriano, vice president and general manager for Microbiology at BD Integrated Diagnostic Solutions. "Reading plates is one of the laboratory tasks that requires the most skill and given the decrease of skilled technicians entering the workforce and the strain on resources created by the COVID-19 pandemic, it's that much more critical for labs to be able to be more efficient." Powered by BD Synapsys informatics solution, the BD Kiestra Urine Culture application (UCA) may help improve lab efficiency and enhance quality by providing diagnostically relevant, standardized images for interpretation by laboratory staff.

ETSI - ETSI releases Mitigation Strategy Report on Securing Artificial Intelligence

#artificialintelligence

ETSI has recently released ETSI GR SAI 005, a report which summarizes and analyses existing and potential mitigation against threats for AI-based systems. Setting a baseline for a common understanding of relevant AI cyber security threats and mitigations will be key for widespread deployment and acceptance of AI systems and applications. This report sheds light on the available methods for securing AI-based systems by mitigating known or potential security threats identified in the recent ENISA threat landscape publication and ETSI GR SAI 004 Problem Statement Report. It also addresses security capabilities, challenges, and limitations when adopting mitigation for AI-based systems in certain potential use cases. Artificial intelligence has been driven by the rapid progress of deep learning and its wide applications, such as image classification, object detection, speech recognition and language translation.
