Facebook deletes 1 billion faceprints in Face Recognition shutdown
Facebook announced today that they will no longer use the Face Recognition system on their platform and will be deleting over 1 billion people's facial recognition profiles. Facebook's Face Recognition system analyzes photos taken of tagged users and associated users' profile photos to build a unique identifier or template. This template is then used to identify users in uploaded photos or automatically tag people in Memories. Now, a week after their rebranding as Meta, Facebook has announced that they are doing away with the Face Recognition feature and deleting all profile templates created by the system. "But the many specific instances where facial recognition can be helpful need to be weighed against growing concerns about the use of this technology as a whole," said Jerome Pesenti, VP of Artificial Intelligence, in an announcement published today.
Artificial Intelligence Could Be About To Replace Your Doctor
The US health and medical insurance industry is a $1.1-trillion maze that is impossible to navigate. And in the bigger scenario of a massive $11-trillion-plus global healthcare industry, America is definitely not first. Americans are fed up, and a digital revolution that goes way beyond telemedicine is the only thing that will restore control. Mentioned in today's commentary includes: Sage Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: SAGE), Cassava Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: SAVA), COMPASS Pathways plc (NASDAQ: CMPS), Neuronetics, Inc. (NASDAQ: STIM), Acadia Healthcare Company, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACHC). Fixing it is a highly disruptive, multi-trillion-dollar opportunity.
HighRadius Launches Autonomous Accounting to Disrupt Month-End Close
HOUSTONโ(BUSINESS WIRE)โ#AIโHighRadius, the Artificial Intelligence-powered Order to Cash and Treasury Management software leader, today expanded its Autonomous Software platform into the Record to Report function to help accounting teams complete month-end close activities faster and more accurately. The new Autonomous Accounting software includes Financial Close Management and Account Reconciliation products as part of the Record to Report suite offering. As the deadline for closing business transactions nears each month, controllers and their staff have the often thankless job of identifying anomalies and missing transactions across the business that may be captured in ERPs, accounting systems, third-party systems, Excel, or perhaps not captured at all. Dealing with these upstream business transactions under a tight timeline puts tremendous pressure on accounting teams to complete their work by the first day of the month. The HighRadius Autonomous Accounting solution uses native AI to continuously evaluate every transaction โ including potentially missing transactions โ to flag department stakeholders to review on a daily basis and self-correct in workflow collaboration with accounting staff.
We are delighted to announce the launch of Scicomm โ a joint science communication project from Robohub and AIhub
Scicomm.io is a science communication project which aims to empower people to share stories about their robotics and AI work. The project is a joint effort from Robohub and AIhub, both of which are educational platforms dedicated to connecting the robotics and AI communities to the rest of the world. This project focuses on training the next generation of communicators in robotics and AI to build a strong connection with the outside world, by providing effective communication tools. People working in the field are developing an enormous array of systems and technologies. However, due to a relative lack of high quality, impartial information in the mainstream media, the general public receive a lot hyped news which ends up causing fear and / or unrealistic expectations surrounding these technologies.

Seoul shares face biometrics of 170M travelers with private firms
The South Korean government shared roughly 170 million face images of citizens and resident foreign nationals with the private sector without their consent to be used in training and testing biometric algorithms, according to a recent Ministry of Justice document. The move is part of an "AI identification and tracking system development project" based on a memorandum of understanding between the Korean Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT). Scheduled for completion in 2022, the project has seen the MOJ transferring information obtained during the immigration screening process to the MSIT, including face biometrics, nationality, gender, and age. The MSIT subsequently transferred that information to private businesses for the purpose of artificial intelligence technology research, according to the allegations. The South Korean government mentioned the creation of the project in a press release when it first launched in 2019 but did not disclose information about its structure, scope, or data collection methods.

Baidu Apollo launches Apollo Moon Robotaix based on AION BEVs
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chinese tech giant Baidu and GAC AION, the wholly-owned NEV subsidiary of GAC Group, on Oct. 26 announced the launch of a new version of the Apollo Moon Robotaxi, which is based on GAC AION's all-electric vehicles and Baidu's factory-installed autonomous driving system (hereinafter referred to as "the Apollo Moon AION version"). On the basis of the ANP (Apollo Navigation Pilot) independent closed loop, the Apollo Moon AION version is capable of the driverless running under specific conditions and the autonomous driving in complex urban traffic scenarios thanks to a tailor-made LiDAR unit and self-driving redundancy design, according to a press release from Baidu Apollo. On the side of vehicle hardware, the Apollo Moon rides on GAC AION's GEP (GAC Electric Platform) 2.0 platform dedicated to all-electric vehicles. Involving an R&D investment of 3 billion yuan ($469.91 million), the platform features a remarkable capability of autonomous driving software and hardware integration and is earlier for autonomous driving tech suppliers to deeply develop vehicle control systems thanks to its EV-focused essence. Owing to the thorough upgrades of both software and hardware, the Apollo Moon AION features lower manufacturing cost per car than that of the former-generation cars, while its overall performance has been greatly improved.
