HCL awarded at artificial intelligence summit – Tech2
Leading global IT services company HCL Technologies has been named winner of the'Best Innovation in Natural Language Processing (NLP)' award at the AIconics Awards during the "AI Summit" in London recently. AIconics are the world's only independently judged awards celebrating the drive, innovation and hard work in the international Artificial Intelligence (AI) community. "This award gives testimony to the innovation and pragmatic implementation of'Natural Language Processing' in the 21st century enterprise," Kalyan Kumar, executive vice president at HCL Technologies, said in a statement. HCL was also named as a finalist in the "Best Intelligent Assistant" category which showcases companies making ground-breaking advancements in virtual assistants and advanced voice/text recognition capabilities. The driving force behind HCL's success at the AIconics Awards is "HCL DryICE" -- the company's innovative autonomics and orchestration framework.
The virtual Holocaust survivor: how history gained new dimensions
Pinchas Gutter goes out of his way to find me biscuits. In a sun-baked living room in his north London home, he opens a packet of Rich Tea, sits down and tells me about the Holocaust. Gutter was seven years old when the second world war broke out. He lived in the Warsaw ghetto for three and a half years, took part in its uprising, survived six Nazi concentration camps – including the Majdanek extermination camp – and lived through a death march across Germany to Theresienstadt in occupied Czechoslovakia. "Remembrance is the secret of redemption, while forgetting leads to exile," he says, quoting Baal Shem Tov, the founder of Hasidic Judaism.
7 Ways Machine Learning Is Already Affecting Your World
What do you think of when someone says "AI" or "Artificial Intelligence"? For most of us, it conjures up an image of the future. It doesn't much evoke the here and now. Artificial intelligence is already out of the box. And while it might not be as slick as the movies, it has vast applications in almost every field, from business to medicine, traffic jams to Facebook photos.
Faculty Interview: Sam Bowman - Data Science at NYU
Sam Bowman is one of the leading researchers in the field of natural language processing (NLP), and recently joined NYU as an Assistant Professor in Computational Linguistics, a joint position between NYU's Linguistics department, and the Center for Data Science. This fall, he will be teaching a course titled "Seminar in Semantics: Artificial Neural Networks." The course will be offered by the Linguistics department, but is also open to students in Master of Science in Data Science program. Can you talk about the course that you're teaching? This fall, I'll be teaching a seminar-style course on the use of neural network models for language understanding.
Recognizing Emotion in Text with Machine Learning (No Code Required)
I'm Julie, Director of Ops, back for a quick tutorial of two awesome new offerings we've built for you. I'm on the non-technical / cat loving side of things so I break it down a bit. I also run the Machine Learning Without a PhD group on LinkedIn where jargon isn't allowed. Feel free to join if you'd like #machinelearning4everyone So today you're getting a 2-for-1 (or as my dad likes to call it a "TooFer"). Today's topic will be the 2016 Tony Awards that aired this past Sunday night. Let's begin by heading to your dashboard.

In my opinion, the marriage of the leading professional social network and the world's largest software company demonstrates that we are decidedly at the start of a new era in software, where proprietary data is king, and will start to come bundled together with software. We've seen this rise in the consumer realm, where technology companies are fundamentally aggregating and analyzing user behavior, and providing value back to users (and, of course, advertisers.) There are countless other examples that also demonstrate that consumer technology puts behavioral and user data front and center, in a way that I expect we will start to see from the enterprise as the divide between these two segments starts to collapse. Taken together, this demonstrates that proven machine learning algorithms have both the horsepower and access to granular datasets that are unprecedented.
The Road Ahead For AI in Cars EE Times
The market research firm expects the attach rate of AI-based systems in new vehicles to increase from 8 percent in 2015 (the vast majority of today's AI systems in cars are focused on speech recognition) to 109% in 2025. IHS sees multiple AI systems of various types to be installed in many cars. In the human-machine interface in vehicles, IHS believes AI will play a role in speech and gesture recognition, eye-tracking, driver monitoring and natural language interfaces. In the autonomous car, AI will advance machine vision systems, while it will also migrate in sensor fusion electronic control units (ECU). In a phone interview with EE Times, Luca De Ambroggi, principal analyst, automotive semiconductors at IHS told us, "AI is viewed as a key enabler for real autonomous vehicles. Everyone in the automotive supply chain is getting pretty bullish."
Millennial CIO explores augmented reality, intelligent assistants
SAP SE is exploring augmented reality and intelligent assistant software in initiatives intended to boost employee productivity, according to new SAP CIO Thomas Saueressig, who at 31 is the youngest CIOworking for a global 2000 company. More productive employees will ultimately improve the business software maker's ability to serve customers, one of the German company's core tenets. "I fundamentally believe that the new generation and the expectations of our customers and our employees are changing so significantly," says Saueressig, who took over for Helen Arnold on May 1. "And we need to shift our focus purely on the end-user [employees and customers]." Saueressig is something of a rarity among first-time IT leaders. As a millennial, he is a member of a generation HPE CEO Meg Whitman describes as as supremely confident if not entitled.

Africa: Frost & Sullivan Applauds Hindsait for Pioneering Healthcare-Centric Artificial Intelligence Systems
Hindsait's AI platform identifies and extracts actionable data from information trapped in clinical notes and other electronic records for improved patient outcomes at lower costs Based on its recent analysis of the market for artificial intelligence (AI) systems for the healthcare industry, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Hindsait, Inc. with the 2016 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Visionary Innovation Leadership. Hindsait has demonstrated a strong commitment to breaking down communication barriers and enhancing healthcare delivery using AI and cognitive computing technology. With its novel software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform, Hindsait helps payers reduce costs and improve the quality of services while simultaneously enabling healthcare providers, such as accountable care organizations (ACOs) and hospitals, to reduce risks and offer superior, more affordable care. Although there are organizations that apply AI and cognitive computing in healthcare, many of them simply adapt approaches applied in other industries to healthcare. Hindsait, on the other hand, is dedicated to the needs of the healthcare industry.
