Chatbots Make Predictions for the Year in AV

#artificialintelligence

In preparation for the AI-driven future we all face, I spent a good portion of 2017 making connections with our future robot overlords -- specifically the friendly faces of AI called "chatbots." It's good to know how to talk to these AIs, because these "human-like conversational characters" that will be the face of corporations and our own in-home personal assistance automatons before we know it. Conversational UI is the future, friends, and it's going to be way more fun than talking to Alexa. Now that the New Year has begun, I thought it would be fun to ask a few chatbots for their 2018 predictions for the AV industry and technology in general. As usual, the chatbots' responses are surprisingly philosophical, if not entirely practical.

Ed Kennedy Discusses AI in the World of eCommerce

#artificialintelligence

When we inject "intelligence" into content management systems, from automating menial tasks to analyzing the tone of each piece of content, the possibilities are endless. On the retail side of things, more brands have started harnessing the technology to deliver content, increase engagement, and strengthen brand affinity. Now, B2B brands are catching on creating more innovative business cases as well. To go more in-depth on where artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) powered technologies sit in the eCommerce world, our media reporter Laura Myers had a great conversation with Ed Kennedy, Commerce Strategist at Episerver. As Ed pointed out during the interview, the use of AI and ML is rapidly emerging from its initial use case; personalization.

Building AI systems that work is still hard

Martin Welker is the chief executive of Axonic. Even with the support of AI frameworks like TensorFlow or OpenAI, artificial intelligence still requires deep knowledge and understanding compared to a mainstream web developer. If you have built a working prototype, you are probably the smartest guy in the room. Congratulations, you are a member of a very exclusive club. With Kaggle, you can even earn decent money by solving real-world projects. All in all, it is an excellent position to be in, but is it enough to build a business? You can not change market mechanics, after all.

Why most data scientists are frauds, according to a data scientist

#artificialintelligence

This is an excerpt from a long interview between an anonymous data scientist and Logic Magazine about AI, deep learning, FinTech, and the future, conducted in November 2016. LOGIC: Alright, let's get started with the basics. What is a data scientist? Do you self-identify as one? DATA SCIENTIST: I would say the people who are the most confident about self-identifying as data scientists are almost unilaterally frauds.

WHENEVER I want answers to anything, I go to my modern-day oracle called Google. Of course, there are huge differences between this virtual oracle and the legendary Oracle of Delphi. The ancient Greeks went to Delphi to consult the priestess Pythia for answers to their questions and she, in turn, would deliver her replies in the form of cryptic prophecies that needed interpretation. And woe be upon the person who understood it wrongly, as in the case of the Lydian king Croesus, who asked Pythia whether he should wage war on the Persian empire. The reply he got was that a great empire would be destroyed if he did so.
