ChatGPT will offer personalized financial advice (if you connect your bank account)

Engadget

OpenAI is rolling out a preview of a new personal finance feature inside of ChatGPT. Starting today, Pro users in the US can connect their financial accounts to ChatGPT in order to get more personalized advice from the chatbot. To hear OpenAI tell it, every month more than 200 million users already turn to ChatGPT for guidance on managing their money. By building a framework that allows those people to connect their accounts to its servers, ChatGPT can go from offering generic advice to helping those same users take actions that more directly improve their lives. The integration is made possible through a partnership OpenAI has signed with Plaid, which offers connections to more than 12,000 financial institutions, including banks like Citi and Chase, in addition to services like Affirm and Robinhood.

New Xbox Elite 3 controller spotted. Here's the one thing it needs

PCWorld

PCWorld reports that Microsoft is developing two new Xbox controllers spotted in Brazilian regulatory filings: a compact mobile controller and the Xbox Elite Controller 3 with Wi-Fi connectivity and swappable battery. The Elite Controller 3 features significant upgrades including direct Wi-Fi connection for cloud gaming, new D-pad, scroll wheels, and Cloud mode for low-latency Xbox Game Pass streaming. Despite these improvements, the controller needs drift-resistant Hall effect thumbsticks, which third-party controllers under $30 already offer, to justify its premium positioning. There are, allegedly, two new official Xbox controllers headed down the pipeline from Microsoft. Regulator filings have revealed a smaller mobile controller that works over Wi-Fi as well as a revamped version of the much-loved Xbox Elite premium design. They're interesting in and of themselves, but I don't think I'm alone in saying they both need just one thing to make me consider buying. Both controller models were spotted in the database of Anatel, the Brazilian equivalent of the US Federal Communications Commission, apparently getting wireless certification. This generally happens before a retail product release, though certification isn't always a guarantee that a product will appear on shelves.

Companies Keep Slashing Employees' Benefits for the Worst Reasons

WIRED

Companies Keep Slashing Employees' Benefits for the Worst Reasons Workers are getting worse health care, parental leave, and retirement benefits, showing once and for all that your job doesn't love you back. Employee benefits are in the spotlight this week, and that's because of three recent stories about US companies cutting back on non-wage compensations for workers. A Texas tech consulting firm with a forgettable name--TTEC--suddenly became a lot more memorable when it suspended its discretionary 401(k) match program for 16,000 employees through at least the end of 2026. According to Business Insider, which viewed an internal TTEC memo, the company plans to invest in AI certifications, AI tools and training, and automation, among other things. The auditing and consulting giant Deloitte is also reportedly slashing benefits for some workers starting next year.

Prisoner swap goes ahead as Kyiv mourns 24 killed in Russian strike on flats

BBC News

Russia and Ukraine exchanged 205 prisoners of war on Friday, hours after rescue workers ended their search of a destroyed block of flats in Kyiv in which 24 people were killed, including three girls. Most of the Ukrainian prisoners had been held since 2022, said President Zelensky. The swap was part of a short-lived ceasefire ending this week with the launch of massive Russian strikes across Ukraine, including a missile attack that reduced 18 flats to rubble. Among the victims was 12-year-old Lyubava Yakovleva, whose father was killed during the war. Meanwhile, Russian officials said four people, including a child, were killed when Ukrainian drones hit the city of Ryazan, south-east of Moscow.
