This MIT-designed AI can predict up to 85% of cyber attacks

An AI created by scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) uses machine learning to detect suspicious activity - getting it right 85 per cent of the time. The system uses an algorithm called "AI2", that detects anomalies, in conjunction with a human expert, because AI2 on its own can lead to false positives, according to MIT News. "The more attacks the system detects, the more analyst feedback it receives, which, in turn, improves the accuracy of future predictions," said one of the researchers behind the project, Kalyan Veeramachaneni. "That human-machine interaction creates a beautiful, cascading effect." The merging of artificial intelligence and what researchers call "analyst intuition" has allowed for this new system to be successful in its early development, Veeramachaneni and fellow scientist Ignacio Arnaldo said.


Google Now turns Siri on after being prodded by Alexa in virtual threesome

Why just use one voice assistant when you can get Amazon's Alexa to command Google's Now to activate Apple's Siri? This voice-assistant three-way was enabled by using Amazon's recently released Alexa voice-command system, which the company hopes will help developers insert its voice assistant (made popular in the US by Amazon's Echo intelligent speaker) into their new products. Whether Amazon envisioned them being used to talk to competitor products, we'll never know. Enterprising developer Leon Nicholls used a Raspberry Pi loaded with the Amazon Alexa Skills Kit to talk to an Amazon Echo asking it to ask Google how to enable Apple's "Hey Siri" feature on the iPhone. Alexa did as she was commanded, asking a Google Nexus 6P how to enable Hey Siri.

San Francisco played host to Microsoft's Build Conference last week. It was with excitement and anticipation (plus a little envy) that I caught up with the keynotes and presentations online. And I wasn't disappointed โ€“ Microsoft has certainly made some clever moves to bring even better services to the development community with businesses likely to reap huge benefits. If you didn't have the time to either fly to San Francisco or watch the conference online, here are my key take outs that are likely to impact our clients in the near future: Microsoft has successfully removed the two major barriers to building apps for all mobile devices: cost and complexity. In February this year Microsoft announced the acquisition of Xamarin.

Researchers Use Artificial Intelligence To Help Identify Cancer Cells

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) โ€“ Scientists say they have developed a new technique for identifying cancer cells in a blood sample more accurately and faster thanks to artificial intelligence. Researchers at the California NanoSystems Institute at UCLA developed the technique that combines a special microscope with an artificial intelligence algorithm to identify cancerous cells. Using the new method could reduce the time and energy to diagnose cancer, allowing doctors to treat it more quickly. The new microscope is called a photonic time stretch microscope, which uses nanosecond-long pulses of light to capture images of hundreds of thousands of cells per second. Researchers say it works by taking pictures of flowing blood cells, the way a camera uses a flash.


Japan eyes rights protection for AI artwork- Nikkei Asian Review

Japan looks to extend intellectual property protection to creative works produced by artificial intelligence, aiming to match other countries in coping with changing notions of authorship and use in the digital age. But the law covers only productions "in which thoughts or sentiments are expressed in a creative way" -- a designation that does not apply to works produced via artificial intelligence with little human input or creative intent. Legislative changes are seen as necessary to address advancements in AI. Intellectual Property Strategy Headquarters, led by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, will make recommendations as part of a broader policy plan to be released in May. A subcommittee report due out Monday will give some details on the process.
