Robots won't simply take employments, they'll make them

Robots and artificial intelligence have come an extended manner since a Roomba entered your home to vacuum your floor and Siri gave you recommendation on the simplest Italian restaurants in your parents' neighborhood. According to a 2013 University of Oxford study, half of yankee jobs can be automatic among ensuing 20 years. The study identified transportation, logistics and body jobs as the most liable to automation. Others assert it is only a matter of your time before robots replace academics, travel agents, interpreters and a host of other professions. Their predictions of what this would appear as if usually focus on 2 scenarios: a dystopia wherever humans now not have jobs or incomes, leading to increased financial gain difference and social upheaval, or a utopia where governments offer incomes to their voters, who can then be in a position to lead additional productive, creative and entrepreneurial lives.

We looked at the many, many ways in which the FBI hacks people, revelations of which have been trickling out for decades. And we broke down just how hackers were able to lift 81 million from a Bangladeshi bank in a matter of hours--well short of their billion-dollar goal, but still a hefty sum, cleverly obtained. In the world of software, Google has finally offered end-to-end encryption in its messaging products. It's Allo and Duo, new chat and video apps that use the stalwart end-to-end encryption known as Signal. On Allo, end-to-end kicks in only when you're in incognito mode, which we guess is better than nothing.

When American Pharoah won the Belmont Stakes last year to end horse racing's 37-year Triple Crown drought, he was the godsend the sport so desperately needed. Meet-and-greets sold out at his stud farm in Kentucky. Attendance records were shattered at every racetrack he visited following his victory. The Associated Press named him the sports story of the year. "American Pharoah's story was a phenomenon," says Keith Chamblin, chief operating officer of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association.


Allo is a messaging app with Google built right in

Google is announcing a new messaging app today. It's called Allo and its main feature is a Google assistant that's built right in. Google says it'll be available later this summer -- for free -- on both iOS and Android. Allo (pronounced like "Aloe" and not like "'allo, guv'nor!") is a mobile-only app that you might think is meant to replace Google's other messaging app, Hangouts. Allo is explicitly meant to be a fresh start for Google's new communication's division (which also runs Hangouts and Project Fi). "It's really liberating to start from scratch sometimes," says Erik Kay, director of engineering, communications products.

By rights, Yuval Noah Harari should be an anonymous academic buried in an obscure university department somewhere toiling away on his somewhat dusty discipline – medieval military history. He's a professor of history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and there is almost nothing in his background to suggest that he would write a book that has become one of the most talked about non-fiction bestsellers of the year – Sapiens. Or that he'd join the globetrotting TED-ocracy: the academic superstars who travel the world delivering keynotes on zeitgeisty topics, in Harari's case, the not inconsiderable subject of the history of the whole of mankind. When I meet him, he's just been the star turn at Penguin Random House's global sales conference. In May, he packed out Hay. Earlier this month, he delivered a TED talk.

An early Google employee tests different apps in his recently remodeled San Francisco home. The home's automation system can be accessed by smart phone; the front door has an automated video doorbell. Facebook founder and chief Mark Zuckerberg created the world's largest media owner, with 1.6 billion users, but it does not produce content. DIGITAL technology has quickly knocked some of the world's biggest businesses off their perches and will soon make more radical changes to our everyday lives. Tech experts have been surprised by the speed that consumers have flocked to global online platforms such as Uber and Airbnb, and believe it's only the beginning -- with artificial intelligence and internet-connected homes among the next big growth areas.

I've been playing around with ml (various courses and personal projects) for about a year, and I'm currently going through the CS224 Deep Learning for NLP course at Stanford (online): I'm looking for a ml teacher or mentor, who can me with problems and concepts when I get stuck. I'm thinking on an hour-to-hour basis, over video chat. I'm not sure how much this would cost, but we'd have to find an hourly rate we both are pleased with. While getting through most of it, I could really need help from someone with a deeper understanding of the math and the concepts in general from time to time. I've written a little bit about my learning path previously.

Google echoes Amazon's Echo, opens new virtual-reality door

Google wants to play an even bigger role in managing people's daily lives, while also nudging them into an alternate reality, as the Internet company responds to competitive threats posed by Facebook, Amazon and Apple. As part of an onslaught of upcoming products, Google will implant a more personable form of artificial intelligence into an Internet-connected device called Home, which echoes the Echo, Amazon.com's Meanwhile, Google will also delve deeper into the still-nascent realm of virtual reality with a system called Daydream that's meant to challenge Facebook-owned Oculus's early lead in fabricating artificial worlds. In an attempt to outshine Apple, Google is also adding features to its Android operating system, including the ability to run apps without actually installing them on a device. That feature, called Instant Apps, might have been the biggest breakthrough that Google announced Wednesday at its annual developers conference held in an amphitheater located a few blocks from its Mountain View, California, headquarters.

Oussama Khatib held his breath as he swam through the wreck of La Lune, 100 meters below the Mediterranean. The flagship of King Louis XIV sank here in 1664, 20 miles off the southern coast of France, and no human had touched the ruins – or the countless treasures and artifacts the ship once carried – in the centuries since. OceanOne, a humanoid robotic diver from Stanford, allows new underwater exploration capabilities. With guidance from a team of skilled deep-sea archaeologists who had studied the site, Khatib, a professor of computer science at Stanford, spotted a grapefruit-size vase. He hovered precisely over the vase, reached out, felt its contours and weight, and stuck a finger inside to get a good grip.
