This is especially true of the tech sector, where some analysts liken the U.S. and China's heavy strategic investments in cybersecurity, quantum computing, 5G, and artificial intelligence to a digital arms race, one that, because of China's long-term positioning and access to vast amounts of data to train on, that country will win. But Anne-Marie Slaughter argues that when it comes to the world-shifting technology of artificial intelligence, the narrative isn't so simple. GM's first autonomous car heads to Henry Ford Museum

DoorDash is getting in the car with General Motors' Cruise autonomous-vehicles to bring people food and groceries. General Motors has donated its first self-driving car, a 3-year-old Chevy Bolt electric car modified for autonomous operation, to the Henry Ford Museum. The car, GM Cruise Automation 01, will be on display immediately. "It'll be right at the front of the auto display, where we explain to people what a car is," The Henry Ford transportation curator Matt Anderson said Tuesday. The white hatchback, which sprouts sensors like a cat's whiskers, will be next to a '59 Cadillac in the museum's "Driving America" collection.

But U.S. officials have stood by their decision to keep the Boeing aircraft operating. The Federal Aviation Administration released a statement Tuesday that reaffirmed officials' trust in the safety of the jet, saying the aviation authority hasn't found any issues that would trigger an immediate grounding of the aircraft. The statement was released following a Dallas Morning News report that claimed pilots previously alerted U.S. officials about concerns regarding the model's autopilot system. In a separate report, the Times said Boeing's chief executive also personally called President Donald Trump to express his confidence in the jets.

Machine Learning "Toolbox" for Protein Analysis

A novel machine learning "toolbox" that can read and analyse the sequences of proteins has been described in the open-access journal eLife. The study demonstrates that, when trained to read sequence data, artificial neural networks called Restricted Boltzmann Machines (RBM) can provide a wealth of information on protein structure, function and evolutionary features. It is believed to be the first method that can extract this level of detail from sequence data alone. Proteins are formed of sequences of molecules called amino acids, which determine a given protein's structural and functional properties. But understanding which parts of the sequences are responsible for which properties is challenging.

I have become obsessed with artificial intelligence over the past few months (also known as AI). It is of particular interest because living in Silicon Valley provides access to many bleeding edge experiences in technological innovation. Self-driving cars are on our roads, robotic restaurants serve us our food, and even barista robots make our coffee. This new technologically enhanced world is upon us. So rather than fight the inevitable, I find it more productive to seek to understand and to consider the impact of these new technologies in my life and society.

We're all familiar with traditional measurement of contact center operations; they've been part of the industry for decades. With the growth of the Internet, websites, self-service, mobile devices, mobile apps, social media and changes to consumer behaviors in the "always on" world, the industry has been in a constant state of reinvention given the value of data in reducing operational costs, while improving service.
