Apple will now fix broken MacBook keyboards within a day, leaked memo suggests as problems continue

Apple is prioritising repairs to its controversial MacBook keyboards as it attempts to deal with concern about just how many of them are breaking. When Apple introduced the new design for its MacBooks, they also brought a new keyboard design. The company said that the new mechanism would save space in the keys, allowing the laptop to be smaller and lighter. But the new keys have proved controversial among users who say they are given to breaking, in many cases leaving them unable to type certain letters. We'll tell you what's true.


Bumble will use AI to detect unwanted nudes

Artificial intelligence will soon weed out any NSFW photos a match sends to you on Bumble. The dating app that requires women to make the first contact said it is launching a "private detector" to warn users about lewd images. Bumble CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd and Andrey Andreev, CEO of the dating app parent company that includes Bumble, Badoo, Chappy and Lumen, made the announcement Wednesday in a press release. Beginning in June, all images sent on Bumble and the other apps will be screened by the AI-assisted "private detector." If a photo is suspected to be lewd or inappropriate, users will have the option to view, block or report the image to moderators before they open it.


Next Nissan GT-R to likely feature hybridization and autonomous driving

The current R35 generation, already 12 years into its run, will shuffle its bones perhaps as long as the first five versions combined. Zipline Expands Medical Drone-Delivery Service to Ghana

Today, Zipline is officially opening the first of four distribution centers in Ghana, inaugurating a drone-delivery network that will eventually serve 2,000 hospitals and clinics covering 12 million people. Here's what Zipline says in a press release about the new operation: The revolutionary new service will use drones to make on-demand, emergency deliveries of 148 different vaccines, blood products, and life-saving medications. The service will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from 4 distribution centers--each equipped with 30 drones--and deliver to 2,000 health facilities serving 12 million people across the country. Together, all four distribution centers will make up to 600 on-demand delivery flights a day on behalf of the Government of Ghana. Each Zipline distribution center has the capacity to make up to 500 flights per day. Zipline's contract with the government of Ghana is worth US $12.5 million, but there has been significant criticism over the deal from the minority party in the Ghanaian government (backed by the Ghana Medical Association) arguing that funding was urgently needed for basic services rather than for medical drone delivery.


Wing becomes first certified Air Carrier for drones in the US

This is an important step for the FAA and the drone industry in the United States; the result of years of work to safely integrate drones into the national airspace. Forget about artificial intelligence, extended intelligence is the future

Last year, I participated in a discussion of The Human Use of Human Beings, Norbert Weiner's groundbreaking book on cybernetics theory. Out of that grew what I now consider a manifesto against the growing singularity movement, which posits that artificial intelligence, or AI, will supersede and eventually displace us humans. The notion of singularity โ€“ which includes the idea that AI will supercede humans with its exponential growth, making everything we humans have done and will do insignificant โ€“ is a religion created mostly by people who have designed and successfully deployed computation to solve problems previously considered impossibly complex for machines. They have found a perfect partner in digital computation, a seemingly knowable, controllable, machine-based system of thinking and creating that is rapidly increasing in its ability to harness and process complexity and, in the process, bestowing wealth and power on those who have mastered it. In Silicon Valley, the combination of groupthink and the financial success of this cult of technology has created a feedback loop, lacking in self-regulation (although #techwontbuild, #metoo and #timesup are forcing some reflection).

The rise of AI-powered surveillance is extremely worrying. The ability of governments to track and identify citizens en masse could spell an end to public anonymity. But as researchers have shown time and time again, there are ways to trick such systems. The latest example comes from a group of engineers from the university of KU Leuven in Belgium. In a paper shared last week on the preprint server arXiv, these students show how simple printed patterns can fool an AI system that's designed to recognize people in images.

The thousands of cameras are a key feature of the lab, which officially opens inside this 50,000-square-foot store on Thursday. Walmart envisions using them, combined with other technology like sensors on shelves, to monitor the store in real time so its workers can quickly react to replenish products or fix other problems. The technology, shown to The Associated Press, will also be able to track when shelves need to be restocked or if shopping carts are running low. It can spot spills on the floor and even detect when cash registers need to be opened up before long lines start forming.
