How Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) Response to AI and Machine Learning

#artificialintelligence

We have an almost mystical faith in the ability of artificial intelligence (AI) to understand and solve problems. It's being applied across many areas of our daily lives and, as a result, the hardware to enable this is starting to populate our data centers. Data centers in themselves present an array of complex problems, including optimization and prediction. So, how about using this miracle technology to improve our facilities? Machine learning, and especially deep learning, can examine a large set of data, and find patterns within it that do not depend on the model that humans would use to understand and predict that data.

How the NSA thinks about Artificial Intelligence today

#artificialintelligence

For now, the NSA is exploring the use of artificial intelligence to detect vulnerabilities. "We are experimenting and developing'self-healing networks,' where we see a vulnerability and the vulnerability is recognized rapidly and patched or mitigated," NSA Director Gen. Paul Nakasone explained in his Joint Forces Quarterly interview. Machine learning eventually could help ease the immense workload placed on each cyber staffer at the agency, Neal Ziring, NSA's Technical Director for Capabilities told CyberScoop. "We're going to need, at the very least, ML techniques to pull signal out of the noise so that the defenders, the operators can be informed [and] spend their time on the most critical events or anomalies rather than trying to make sense of this huge data space manually," Ziring said.

Artificial Intelligence Helsinki Smart Region

#artificialintelligence

Helsingin Sanomat responded to the bafflement by stating that the election engine's algorithm was built to recommend parties, not single candidates, that best correspond to a citizen's political views. This arrangement left perfectly suited candidates to the sidelines of the engine's suggestions. As a result of public discussion about the engine's function the newspaper published its algorithm for everyone to see. It also modified the algorithm based on the suggested improvements it received. Meeri Haataja was thrilled about the conversation.

Samsung looking at 6G, Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence Technologies

#artificialintelligence

Samsung is looking at investments in sixth-generation mobile networks, system semiconductors, blockchain and artificial intelligence technologies, Bloomberg recently reported. In the report, Samsung's Vice Chairman Jay Y. Lee noted that the company is facing challenges due to the global environment causing pressure on the company's profits. Executive Opinion Bloomberg quoted Jay Y. Lee of VC of Samsung Electronics, saying that, "We should challenge ourselves with a resolution to make new foundations, moving beyond the scope of protecting our past achievements." Samsung's Plans Bloomberg quoted an emailed statement by Samsung, where it was noted discussions among company leaders on collaboration with platform companies on 6G mobile networks, blockchain technologies and artificial intelligence. Maybe the rivals of the company (mainly Apple Inc. and Huawei Technologies Co.) led Lee in making this first ever public statement for 6G technology as these tech giants race to commercialize 5G network services, which launched in South Korea during the month of April.

U.S. tariffs on China-made consumer tech goods seen cutting sales, delaying upgrades

The Japan Times

WASHINGTON - U.S. consumers will delay or forgo technology upgrades if President Donald Trump imposes a new round of 25 percent tariffs on Chinese goods, slowing the U.S. innovation engine, technology industry executives said on Monday. Trump's administration is preparing to levy tariffs on an additional $300 billion worth of Chinese imports after a public comment period ends on July 2 if the U.S. and Chinese presidents cannot relaunch talks to end their trade war. The two countries have been at odds since July 2018 over a host of U.S. demands that Beijing adopt policy changes that would better protect American intellectual property and make China's market more accessible to U.S. companies. Consumer technology products, including cellphones, laptop and tablet computers, smart speakers and video gaming consoles, would make up $167 billion of that $300 billion total, or more than half the target list, said Sage Chandler, vice president of international trade for the Consumer Technology Association. Chandler told a hearing on the tariffs hosted by the U.S. Trade Representative's office that imposing the tariffs would raise the retail price of cellphones by an average of $70, while the price of laptop computers would rise by $120 and video game consoles by $56.

Artificial Intelligence: New Threats to International Psychological Security

#artificialintelligence

The scholars focused on combating the malicious use of AI by terrorists. Their findings were published in the journal Russia in Global Affairs. Much has been written on the threats that artificial intelligence (AI) can pose to humanity. Today, this topic is among the most discussed issues in scientific and technical development. Despite the fact that so-called Strong AI, characterised by independent systems thinking and possibly self-awareness and will power, is still far from reality, various upgraded versions of Narrow AI are now completing specific tasks that seemed impossible just a decade ago.

Do You Trust This Computer? (A Reaction Paper)

#artificialintelligence

This documentary projects the effects and dangers of Artificial Intelligence (AI) developments for next generations. The video addresses lots of examples in both negative and positive dimensions for using and developing Artificial Intelligence. In my opinion, one of the most important messages of this movie is that speakers in the movie believe that the development of AI is beneficial but it could misuse in lots of malicious areas. Example of that might be within war machines or development of mass destruction weapons which could seriously jeopardize our lives. The message of this movie is clearly states that machines can easily reproduce and duplicate themselves therefore development of full AI could spell the end of the human race.

Is AI Bringing Us to a Privacy Tipping Point?

#artificialintelligence

Way back in 1975, geochemist Dr. Wallace Broecker of Columbia University published his article "Climatic Change: Are We on the brink of a Pronounced Global Warming?" Today, almost 45 years later, the debate has intensified but still rages on, even as some believe the clock is running out. The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warns that we have only 11 years to limit the chances of a climate change catastrophe. One can see strong parallels between Dr. Broecker's warnings and those related to our loss of personal data privacy. Society is facing the threat of climate change, which some experts say will reach a tipping point; we may be reaching a similar tipping point with privacy and cyber security. In their paper presented at the 1965 Fall Joint Computer Conference titled "Some Thoughts About the Social Implications of Accessible Computing," E. E. David, Jr. of Bell Labs and R. M. Fano of MIT, warn that "the same technology which has given us new dimensions in communication has been used to implement eavesdropping equipment." They went on to say that "the very power of advanced computer systems makes them a serious threat to the privacy of the individual".

Deep Learning with Merrill Grambell Improv Asylum

#artificialintelligence

We live in a world where everything is connected, smart fridges, salt dispensers, egg timers, and even hair brushes. That sounds like a Ummm, ok-ish idea. Well, that's what this show is. Deep Learning with Merrill Grambell is the first show completely hosted by artificial intelligence as it interacts with real-life comedians, musicians, technologists and other interesting guests from all over the world. It's sort of as if Clippy from Microsoft Word and Bonzi Buddy got together and made a talk show.
