Neuropore Therapies and BenevolentAI Enter Strategic Collaboration to Discover Novel Therapeutics Through the Application of Artificial Intelligence
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Neuropore Therapies, Inc. announced today that it entered into a collaboration with BenevolentAI to evaluate molecular targets implicated in progressive degenerative diseases which were identified through artificial intelligence. The molecular targets of interest are implicated in dysfunctions in proteostasis and can therefore be modulated to restore normal cellular protein clearance mechanisms. The collaboration aims to discover small molecule therapeutics for multiple targets. Our lives are increasingly affected by algorithms. People may be denied loans, jobs, insurance policies, or even parole on the basis of risk scores that they produce. Yet algorithms are notoriously prone to biases. For example, algorithms used to assess the risk of criminal recidivism often have higher error rates in minority ethic groups. As ProPublica found, the COMPAS algorithm – widely used to predict re-offending in the US criminal justice system – had a higher false positive rate in black than in white people; black people were more likely to be wrongly predicted to re-offend.
Artificial Intelligence used to detect fast radio bursts
Scientists have developed an automated system that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to detect and capture fast radio bursts (FRBs) in real-time. FRBs are mysterious and powerful flashes of radio waves from space, thought to originate billions of light years from the Earth, said researchers from Swinburne University of Technology in Australia. They last for only a few milliseconds or a thousandth of a second and their cause is one of astronomy's biggest puzzles. Astronomical Society, has already identified five bursts -- including one of the most energetic ever detected, as well as the broadest. Sensyne Health, Bayer collaborate on new AI-powered treatments for heart disease
Sensyne Health, a British artificial intelligence technology company, has signed an initial two-year collaboration agreement with Bayer to accelerate the clinical development of new treatments for cardiovascular disease using Sensyne Health's proprietary clinical AI technology platform. The initial agreement will generate revenue for Sensyne Health of £5 million across the two-year collaboration. Sensyne Health's partner National Health Service trusts will receive a 4% share of all revenue generated by Sensyne Health under this collaboration. Stroke patients or others with neurological injury are turning to the rehabilitation powers of robots with artificial intelligence that help people regain previously lost mobility. BIONIK Laboratories, a global health care company with an office in Watertown, develops robotic "InMotion" systems for the arm, hand and wrist. The FDA-cleared products, which are used in hospitals and rehabilitation facilities, work seamlessly by guiding patients with the help of a physical therapist through various movement activities displayed on a monitor. Once the patient has a hand and arm in the InMotion device, robotic therapy takes over, using artificial intelligence to provide the patient as much assistance as needed to work through a series of movements aimed at regaining the patient's mobility.
