For many years, Apple has shown the world the processor while important can take a backseat to the software integration when it comes to performance. In iPhone performance tests, Apple consistently outperforms Samsung who relies on the Android OS to interface between the apps and CPU. In the early days of WebRTC โ it was maddening to developers that Apple's FaceTime was much better at transmitting quality video than their applications because they were at the mercy of the OS. Chome's speed advantage helped it dethrone the browser king. None of this is lost on Intel.

Naspers to invest in machine learning as Prosus listing approved - TechCentral
Naspers is looking to invest in machine learning as Africa's largest company seeks to expand following an Amsterdam listing of assets including a stake in Tencent Holdings. The South African Internet and technology group spent about US$3-billion on its various ventures around the world last year, including Indian food-delivery service Swiggy and Russian classifieds site Avito. Machine learning -- a subset of artificial intelligence -- is another area of interest, as is online education, executives said on Friday. "We are interested in investing in machine learning," CEO Bob van Dijk told shareholders at the AGM in Cape Town. "The amount of data is exploding -- last year we collected more data in the world than ever before."
FedEx turns to Segway inventor to build delivery robot
FedEx's robot has a top speed of 10 mph and can carry about 100 pounds. A company spokesman said its typical speed would vary depending on the route. The robot relies on sensors typically used on self-driving cars to identify and avoid pedestrians. The SameDay Bot is capable of climbing steps, but customers will need to be home to accept packages -- it won't leave a package on a doorstep or open a front gate. The robot is being developed by DEKA, the Manchester, New Hampshire engineering company owned by Segway inventor Dean Kamen.
