More than half of clinicians in the United States experience symptoms of burnout,1 a condition so pervasive that multiple leading healthcare organizations have declared it a public health crisis.2 The electronic health record (EHR) is a major contributing factor to clinician burnout. On average, clinicians spend nearly 6 hours a day – more than half of the workday – carrying out tasks on the EHR. Rather than spending that time with patients, clinicians are burdened with documentation, billing, coding, order entry, system security, and other clerical and administrative tasks.3 Burnout manifests in several ways: emotional exhaustion, feelings of ineffectiveness, an inability to find meaning in work, and even a tendency to view patients and colleagues as objects rather than human beings.

What's now called Turkey was once the center of the Ottoman Empire, a global hub of culture and science during its heyday, which lasted over 600 years. It was the birthplace of the first surgical atlas and the first watch that measured time in minutes, and it's where astronomers first calculated the eccentricity of the Sun's orbit. Today, Turkey is better known for its rich cultural heritage, with large numbers of Russian and German tourists haggling over evil eyes, sipping Turkish tea in bazaars, and enjoying the hot water baths of Istanbul. With a population nearing 79 million people, Turkey also has high-quality and relatively cheap resources for developed markets to exploit capitalize on, along with a budding startup ecosystem. Deal sizes might be on the low side, but Turkish tech startups have stepped up to participate in the global AI race.

We're releasing the 774 million parameter GPT-2 language model after the release of our small 124M model in February, staged release of our medium 355M model in May, and subsequent research with partners and the AI community into the model's potential for misuse and societal benefit. We're also releasing an open-source legal agreement to make it easier for organizations to initiate model-sharing partnerships with each other, and are publishing a technical report about our experience in coordinating with the wider AI research community on publication norms. To date, there hasn't been a public release of a 1558M parameter language model, though multiple organizations have developed the systems to train them, or have publicly discussed how to train larger models. For example, teams from both NLP developer Hugging Face and the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI2) with the University of Washington have explicitly adopted similar staged release approaches to us. Since February, we've spoken with more than five groups who have replicated GPT-2[1].

Russia's space agency Roscosmos has a new plan to dock an unpiloted Soyuz capsule at the International Space Station after the first attempt failed on Saturday (Aug. But there's just one hitch: Another spacecraft is already parked at the Zvezda port. As technology advances, AI has an opportunity to not only impact business practices, but actual human traits and interactions. We've long heard that AI is going to disrupt every facet of business, with a wide range of benefits touted, including increased efficiency, better customer service and lower overhead. But too often, AI implementation misses its higher-end potential by being limited to the automation of simple tasks -- the marketing department wants to analyze customer data faster, while the procurement office wants to optimize supply chain orders. Although addressing these tasks is beneficial, many companies have struggled to fully realize the potential of AI, which has caused an industry-wide disconnect about what AI can offer both individuals and businesses. Compounding this confusion, AI has become a catch-all term, almost like "software" or "technology," which leaves companies and society confused about what it means, its real intent and its real impact.
