The Politics of Artificial Intelligence in Financial Markets
Technology is and has always been a crucial part of finance. From the first promissory notes (banknotes) in the Netherlands and China, there was a race with counterfeiters that parasitically undermined trust. As in political communication, technology is the message, rather than merely "a tool": when it comes to money, trust is not just instrumental, it is fundamental. With cashless payments being the norm and social media platforms weαving an additional layer of involvement in our social data web – Amazon, Google, Facebook, Apple – Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already in our wallets, business, and financial affairs. In a non-western setting, one may refer to the Chinese "social rating" system, which allows the state to value and evaluate social behaviour patterns, creating a link to individual credit rating. That is a far-reaching "Panopticon" structure that would be unthinkable without AI.
Elon Musk issues terrifying prediction about advanced AI - 'All civilisation will end!'
Billionaire CEO SpaceX Elon Musk made the apocalyptic statement that Artificial Intelligence would wipe out all civilisation while debating Alibaba chairman Jack Ma at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, China. There was a silver lining to the grim prediction as Mr Musk claimed his firm Neuralink could one day help to level the playing field. The company is working on brain implants that would allow a user to download date from computers.
Deep Learning and Spatial Statistics for Determining Road Surface Condition
Machine Learning (ML), and especially Deep Learning (DL) methods, have evolved rapidly over the last years and showed remarkable advances in research areas such as computer vision and natural language processing; however, there are still engineering applications in industries such as transportation where DL methods have not been applied yet or that can be benefited from an integrated approach using DL in addition to other methods. For countries in Northern latitudes, one of such applications is Monitoring Road Surface Condition (RSC) during the Winter season for improving road safety and road maintenance operations. In this study, we introduce a novel approach for monitoring of RSC that integrates DL methods and Spatial Statistics (SS) to simultaneously process data from roadside cameras and weather stations to determine automatically the category of snow coverage at sample locations across a region of interest.
Spark your imagination. Fuel your transformation.
If you didn't attend one of our recent IBM IoT Exchanges, you won't want to miss the upcoming Engineering Academy Comes to You event in Detroit. These smaller gatherings hosted by IBM Engineering are designed to accommodate professionals who were unable to attend our larger, national events. At these more intimate venues, you can learn about the latest techniques from industry experts, and speak one on one with those who are driving transformation. You'll also have the opportunity to network with others in your field. At our Engineering Academy Comes to You conferences, experts address the challenges facing engineering professionals and the innovative new technologies that can help resolve them.
Intelligent Security: How AI Is Revolutionizing Identity Verification, Fraud Detection And Risk Assessment
Any system where humans interact with technology involves a tradeoff: security versus accessibility. The more secure the system, the more difficult it is to access. This poses a dilemma for any organization facing pressure to embrace anytime, anywhere accessibility, the mobile workplace and real-time interaction with customers and employees--and that describes almost every organization today. Advances in artificial intelligence (AI)--and the millions of data points created by the Internet of Things--are starting to change the nature of this tradeoff, particularly where trust is part of the product or service. As AI systems learn more, they can be trained to suggest next best actions, automate some repetitive tasks and minimize the greatest risk: human error.
Billionaires Jack Ma and Elon Musk debate good, evil and AI at conference in China
In the debate over artificial intelligence, whose side is Elon Musk on? Musk, who's in charge of SpaceX, Tesla and the Neuralink brain interface venture, sized up the odds with AliBaba founder Jack Ma today during a widely watched one-on-one session at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai. The way Musk sees it, the prospects aren't great for humans if future AI agents decide to go rogue. That's despite pronouncements from AI researchers who say machines won't match humans anytime soon when it comes to general intelligence, as opposed to specialized AI applications such as playing chess or Go. "The biggest mistake I see artificial intelligence researchers making is assuming that they're intelligent," Musk said.
NIST sets AI ground rules for agencies without 'stifling innovation' Federal News Network
Best listening experience is on Chrome, Firefox or Safari. As agencies continue to experiment with artificial intelligence as a tool to transform the way they do business, the National Institute of Standards and Technology has set a roadmap for the government's role in developing future AI breakthroughs. After months of feedback from industry and elsewhere in government, as well as an in-person workshop in May, NIST has laid down some ground rules of what agencies should and shouldn't do with AI tools going forward. NIST's plan marks the federal government's first major effort to provide clarity and guidance to agencies looking to adopt a technology that, while buzzworthy now, actually dates back to the 1960s, yet still remains in its infancy. Insight by Trezza Media Group: Labor Department, U.S. Marshals Service, SBA and VA address IT modernization in this free webinar.
Alibaba's Founder Jack Ma Said - Working 4 Hours A Day Is Enough With The Help Of Artificial Intelligence - Blog2.me
Shanghai: Alibaba Group founder Jack Ma says that with the help of Artificial Intelligence people should learn to work only 12 hours a week. It may be possible to work only 3 days a week and 4 hours a day through advanced technology and improvement in the education system. Ma said so at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference held in Shanghai on Thursday. Earlier in April, Ma supported work for 12 hours every day and 6 days a week. He had said that those thinking of working for 8 hours are not needed.
Microsoft Exec Forecasts Boom In Artificial Intelligence-Powered Personal Assistants
You'd expect Microsoft's offices to be wired with some snappy technology. When it comes to booking a meeting room, Microsoft employees can tell an artificial intelligence-powered (AI) bot how many people need to sit down at what time and the bot will return ideas for the best spaces based on the headcount plus availability. The American software giant envisions that sort of AI making its way into medical exam rooms, PowerPoint slides and other companies' administrative offices over the next five years, says Ken Sun, general manager of Microsoft Taiwan where a lot of the research is being done. Artificial intelligence technology, better known as AI, refers to making machines react and process information, often based on giant data reserves, much as people do. "It's super exciting," Sun says in an interview.
The Future of AI Part 3
This article will focus on the impact of AI, 5G, Edge Computing on the healthcare sector in the 2020s as well as a section on Quantum Computing's potential impact on AI, healthcare and financial services. The next in the series will deal with how we can use AI in the fight against climate change including the protection of the Amazon, smart cities and AGI. For those who are new to AI, Machine Learning and Deep Learning, I recommend taking a look at the following article entitled "An Introduction to AI." I will refer to Machine Learning and Deep Learning as being subsets of AI. Furthermore, this article is non-exhaustive in relation to potential applications of AI to healthcare and Quantum Computing to various sectors of the economy. The reason for the focus on AI in healthcare is in light of recent articles by a few senior medical practitioners in the US expressing concern about the role of AI in healthcare. Some of the concerns expressed such as the need for improved sharing of data ...
