Is Machine Learning a Rewarding tool for CIOs?

#artificialintelligence

You might have probably heard about Machine Learning (ML). Do you know what it is and how it can add value to your business by resolving the problems? Let's have a look at some insights on this innovative invention. FREMONT, CA: Machine learning (ML) is an essential application of artificial intelligence that is geared towards the development of computer programs to manage new situations through self-analysis, observation, self-training, and experience. ML should not be confused with data mining and knowledge discovery in data (KDD) basis, which are of identical methodology.

Your boss is going to start using AI to monitor you--and labor laws aren't ready

#artificialintelligence

All that automation yields data that can be used to analyze workers' performance. Those analyses, whether done by humans or software programs, may affect who is hired, fired, promoted and given raises. Some artificial intelligence programs can mine and manipulate the data to predict future actions, such as who is likely to quit their job, or to diagnose medical conditions. If your job doesn't currently involve these types of technologies, it likely will in the very near future. This worries me--a labor and employment law scholar who researches the role of technology in the workplace--because unless significant changes are made to American workplace laws, these sorts of surveillance and privacy invasions will be perfectly legal.

Humans vs. machines. What does it mean in retail?

#artificialintelligence

Last month I took part in a debate on the'future of technology in retail and whether technology could replace humans....' Subsequently, I've pulled together some thoughts for Inside Retail (also published here). For the past decade, advancements in technology have been disrupting what seems like most facets of the human experience. And with what feels like monthly advances in technology, it's no surprise the retail industry is accelerating globally in innovation and experimentation. According to Gartner, worldwide retail-tech spending will increase by 3.6% to $203.6 billion in 2019, surpassing most other industries with regard to technology spend. With customer support now on instant, 24-hour demand, voice and chat assistants have quickly taken the place of most traditional online help platforms and traditional services.

Fraudsters deepfake CEO's voice to trick manager into transferring $243,000

#artificialintelligence

It's already getting tough to discern real text from fake, genuine video from deepfake. Now, it appears that use of fake voice tech is on the rise too. That's according to the Wall Street Journal, which reported a case of voice fraud -- aka vishing (short for "voice phishing") -- that cost a company $243,000. Find out at TNW's Hard Fork Summit In March, criminals sought the help of commercially available voice-generating AI software to impersonate the boss of a German parent company that owns a UK-based energy firm. They then tricked the latter's chief executive into urgently wiring said funds to a Hungarian supplier in an hour, with guarantees that the transfer would be reimbursed immediately.

UAE commercial kitchens use Artificial Intelligence to track food waste

He added: "The fast pace of technological advancement brings us a wealth of innovations that we can leverage to drive our sustainability agenda forward. Employing artificial intelligence as a powerful tool to manage and eliminate food waste adds significant momentum to our efforts and makes our task that much easier and more seamless. Efficient collaboration between hospitality and tech companies will inform food waste management decisions and deliver substantial benefits."

The Ghost Workers Powering The AI Economy

#artificialintelligence

Rightly or wrongly, the AI-driven world has come to typify the woes of modern economic life, as tech giants such as Facebook and Alphabet amass vast fortunes, due in large part to the huge quantities of data that users often freely provide them. Accusations of economic imbalance tend to be multi-faceted. Not only do these companies typically employ fewer people than the industrial titans of yore, but they also attract the ire of officials over their tax practices and have grown insanely rich off the back of something users receive no compensation for. It's helped to create a world in which the haves are increasingly well off, while the have nots make do with insecure and poorly paid work. Nowhere is this exchange more evident than in the data annotation industry, where people from around the world help to prepare and tidy up the data used by the tech giants to train the algorithms upon which their fortunes increasingly rest.

Artificial intelligence in residential real estate: Reality or hype?

#artificialintelligence

Every few years, the vast technology industry gets animated by one concept. This concept need not be brand new โ€“ often new packaging suffices to kick in the Silicon Valley hyperbole machine. In our 25 years in technology, we've seen several of these epochs come and go as people train their sites on the shiniest new object or idea. In 2019, we are indisputably in the era of artificial intelligence. From TV commercials to books, from marketing slicks to sales talk tracks, AI makes an appearance in almost every conversation connected to the technology industry.

iQIYI VP Xie Danming Attends 2019 World Artificial Intelligence Conference's AITalk: The Age of AI Makes Art More Creative

#artificialintelligence

On August 28th, Xie Danming, Vice President of iQIYI, Inc. (IQ) ("iQIYI" or the "Company"), was invited to AITalk, a pre-conference event of the 2019 World Artificial Intelligence Conference ("WAIC") Shanghai West Bund Forum. WAIC is China's first high-level conference that focuses on artificial intelligence ("AI"). At the event, Xie delivered a keynote speech titled "Making Art More Creative in the AI Era", sharing his understandings on the role AI plays in entertainment and artistic creation. In his speech, Xie used iQIYI as an example to explain how AI is applied to different aspects of its business to create a comprehensive entertainment ecosystem that is driven by technologies and innovations. To begin with, iQIYI's "AI Content" strategy has become a driving force for the creation of the company's hit shows.

A Vision for the Future of Private International Law and the Internet

#artificialintelligence

There are countless news stories and scientific publications illustrating how artificial intelligence (AI) will change the world. As far as law is concerned, discussions largely center around how AI systems such as IBM's Watson will cause disruption in the legal industry. However, little attention has been directed at how AI might prove beneficial for the field of private international law. Private international law has always been a complex discipline, and its application in the online environment has been particularly challenging, with both jurisdictional overreach and jurisdictional gaps. Primarily, this is due to the fact that the near-global reach of a person's online activities will so easily expose that person to the jurisdiction and laws of a large number of countries. Thus, online users ranging from individuals to the largest online companies are subject to unpredictable legal consequences when using the Internet.

Hey Siri, will our banks be digital casualties?

#artificialintelligence

Moven, which works with banks in eight regions, including Westpac New Zealand, provides behavioural models that help banks drive better engagement and retention โ€“ little "nudges" such as spending alerts and notifications, and savings prompts. Brett King says Australian banks will struggle to keep up with the likes of Chinese giant Ant Financial. King, who grew up in the Melbourne suburb of Berwick and was speaking at the FINSIA summit in Melbourne on Tuesday, says Moven's experience with TD Canada Trust โ€“ Canada's second-biggest bank โ€“ provides a good example of what the future might hold. Half of TD's customers use Moven's platform, called My Spend. This group has seen a 4 per cent to 8 per cent reduction in monthly spending thanks to the various "nudges" they receive compared with a controlled group.
