Behar said Trump is'running very scared right now,' and that'he is like a cornered rat.' Her comments came as Trump stood by his original criticism of the group known as'The Squad.' "View" co-host Joy Behar invoked George Orwell's iconic novel "1984" while discussing the Trump presidency with author Stephen King. While promoting his new novel, "The Institute," on Wednesday, King began by explaining the plot, which involves "defenseless children" with supernatural abilities who are "locked up" by a mysterious organization. He talked about how his story connects to current events. "When I started writing this book, I just wanted to write a story about defenseless children who were locked up and had to kind of band together in order to fight these cruel adults that are performing tests on them," King said.

Google, Mayo Clinic team up on patient data and AI healthcare research

Google and the Mayo Clinic have signed a decade-long partnership that aims to transform the healthcare institution's uses of patient data, artificial intelligence and cloud-computing services across all its work from care delivery to product development. The deal's roadmap includes Google Cloud serving as the home for all of the Mayo Clinic's data, though the clinic will maintain overarching control of its use and dole out access for individual research efforts. Additionally, Google will open its own office within the clinic's home of Rochester, Minnesota, where the tech giant's engineers will work with Mayo's physicians and scientists to apply advanced computing techniques. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. "Data-driven medical innovation is growing exponentially, and our partnership with Google will help us lead the digital transformation in health care," Mayo's president and CEO, Gianrico Farrugia, said in a statement.

Researchers seek to revolutionize catalyst design with machine learning Penn State University

Researchers from Penn State and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) have received a $1.2 million grant from the United States Department of Energy (DOE) to use machine learning -- a form of artificial intelligence -- and data science to design more effective catalysts for chemical processing. The grant is part of a new initiative by the DOE to provide $27.6 million in grants for data science research in chemical and materials sciences. A catalyst is a stable chemical substance that, when added to a chemical reaction, increases the rate of reaction without becoming part of the reaction. "It is important to recognize how widespread the use of catalysts is," said Michael Janik, Penn State professor of chemical engineering and principal investigator for the study. "About 90% of chemical products people are using every day, like gasoline and fine chemicals that are in shampoo, are going through some sort of catalytic process before they're used."
