Artificial intelligence for construction safety, 3D printing part of new technologies trialled by HDB
SINGAPORE: The Housing and Development Board (HDB) has rolled out the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance worker safety at its construction sites. This AI system will focus on two scenarios which are common causes of worksite accidents, based on data from the Ministry of Manpower, HDB said in a media briefing on Thursday (Sep 12). The system will monitor workers who come within one metre of a non-barricaded edge with a drop of more than two metres and those who are under the path of heavy loads lifted by tower cranes. Currently, construction work sites rely on manual supervision by site supervisors and Workplace, Safety and Health Officers (WSHO) to ensure compliance with safety standards. According to HDB, this is a "resource intensive endeavour", requiring multiple WSHOs and supervisors.
Second Artificial Intelligence Week kicks off in Dubai

Dr. Hamed Al Hashemi, Director, Strategy Division at Department of Health, Abu Dhabi said: "In utilizing tech-based solutions like AI we can build a future-proof healthcare system. These systems are capable of providing more efficient, safe and evidence-based quality of care while forging ahead with bringing new, innovative ways of healthcare services delivery."

A former Google engineer has expressed fears about a new generation of robots that could carry out'atrocities and unlawful killings'. Laura Nolan, who previously worked on the tech giant's military drone initiative, Project Maven, is calling for the ban of all autonomous war drones, as these machines do not have the same common sense or discernment as humans. Project Maven focused on enhancing drones with artificial intelligence (AI) to distinguish enemy targets from people and other objects โ but was discontinued after employees protested the technology in development, calling it'evil'. Nolan, who left Google in 2018 in protest against the US military drone technology, is now calling for all drones not operated by humans to fall under the same ban as chemical weapons, according to The Guardian. Army AI Task Force builds new prototypes for armored vehicles

New applications of AI are consolidating data from otherwise disparate sensor systems, analyzing seemingly limitless amounts of targeting data in seconds and instantly sifting through hours of drone video to massively improve attack options and shorten "sensor-to-shooter" time. "We are developing an AI stack regarding how we pull together the sensors, computing layer and analytics to manage the data," Col. Doug Matty, Army AI Task Force Deputy Director, told Warrior in an interview. New algorithms, AI-enabled computer processing and high-speed networking are all specific elements of work now underway with the Army's AI Task Force, an emerging Army effort to collaborate with industry and academia, find technology breakthroughs and develop new applications for AI, Matty explained.

Earlier Monday in Austria, Energy Secretary Rick Perry placed the blame for the attack squarely on Iran.
