In Japan, information security engineers are lacking. So, I am focused on artificial intelligence (AI) technology to solve the lack of human resources. And, I have developed the AI to detect vulnerabilities on web apps called SAIVS (Spider Artificial Intelligence Vulnerabilities Scanner). The goal of SAIVS is to obtain ability of equal or higher than vulnerability diagnosis members. But, it is possible to detect vulnerabilities on web apps like a human.
An introduction to reinforcement learning with AWS RoboMaker Amazon Web Services
Robotics often involves training complex sequences of behaviors. For example, consider a robot designed to follow or track another object. Although the goal is easy to describe (the closer the robot is to the object, the better), creating the logic that accomplishes the task is much more difficult. Reinforcement learning (RL), an emerging Machine Learning technique, can help develop solutions for exactly these kinds of problems. This post is an introduction to RL and it explains how we used AWS RoboMaker to develop an application that trains a TurtleBot Waffle Pi to track and move toward a TurtleBot Burger.
Poor Man's Qubit: First Hardware of a Probabilistic Computer Now Available
Quantum issues may now be solvable without the use of a quantum computer. New research by engineers at Purdue University and Tohoku University in Japan, has unveiled the researchers' new hardware -- a probabilistic computer -- which can solve quantum problems without using any quantum computers. The probabilistic computer with its new hardware has fundamental units -- known as p-bits -- which can perform a calculation that usually only a quantum computer could solve. The study was published this week in Nature. The new device built by the engineers will be the basis for building probabilistic computers.
'Perfectly real' deepfakes will arrive in 6 months to a year, technology pioneer Hao Li says
Manipulated images and videos that appear "perfectly real" will be accessible to everyday people in "half-a-year to a year," deepfake pioneer Hao Li said on CNBC on Friday. "It's still very easy, you can tell from the naked eye most of the deepfakes," Li, an associate professor of computer science at the University of Southern California, said on "Power Lunch." "But there also are examples that are really, really convincing," Li said, adding those require "sufficient effort" to create. "Deepfake" refers to the process using computers and machine-learning software to manipulate videos or digital representations to make them seem real, even though they are not. The rise of this technology has, however, given rise to concerns about how these creations could cause confusion and propagate disinformation, especially in the context of global politics.

AI vs human skill: is there a winner?
That Artificial Intelligence will replace the need for a human workforce, is a misconception. Rather, AI is an effective tool that can support a business to build a more efficient workforce and assist with cost-saving initiatives. This is the view of Wessel Oosthuizen, Senior Manager, TMT, Deloitte Africa, who says that skills and capacity building in the field of AI, as well as critical thinking and a workforce that understands how to leverage this technology – are key for businesses to remain relevant in a rapidly changing world. "Individuals with finance, engineering or computer science backgrounds – who understand both the possibilities that AI presents and its limitations – are priceless. They combine their subject matter expertise, critical thinking, data analysis and innovation, with AI tools and techniques to help their organisations make the most of AI and similar technologies" said Oosthuizen. His sentiments are echoed in Deloitte's recently released 18th edition of its Technology, Media & Telecommunications Predictions (TMT Predictions), which finds that while enterprise software and cloud-based development platforms can provide effective gateways to AI, they are not a substitute for having at least some technical AI talent, in-house.
You've been warned: Full body deepfakes are the next step in AI-based human mimicry
Within the field of deepfakes, or "synthetic media" as researchers call it, much of the attention has been focused on fake faces potentially wreaking havoc on political reality, as well as other deep learning algorithms that can, for instance, mimic a person's writing style and voice. But yet another branch of synthetic media technology is fast evolving: full body deepfakes. In August 2018, University of California Berkeley researchers released a paper and video titled "Everybody Dance Now," demonstrating how deep learning algorithms can transfer a professional dancers' moves onto the bodies of amateurs. While primitive, it showed that machine learning researchers are tackling the more difficult task of creating full body deepfakes. Also in 2018, a team of researchers led by Dr. Björn Ommer of Heidelberg University in Germany published a paper on teaching machines to realistically render human movements.
Bowers & Wilkins unveils flagship PX7 wireless headphones
After filling out its wireless Formation lineup, Bowers & Wilkins is turning its attention back to headphones. The British manufacturer -- best known for its decadent home speakers -- unveiled four options today including a successor to the PX, its much-loved and most premium wireless headphones, and two sets of neckbuds focused on noise cancelling and high-end sound respectively. None of them are cheap (no surprise there), but the company hopes that its signature quality, combined with a new brand motto called "emotion, amplified," can expand its marketshare and pull customers away from competitors such as Bose, Sennheiser and Sony. But what exactly has changed? You won't find any touch controls on these headphones, or a voice assistant (yet) that can control your tunes and retrieve useful information.
Building the Model T for Gen Z
Before long, the rideshares we summon with our phones may come without drivers. Though that's not a ride many would accept just yet, a number of companies are nearing launch phase on driverless robotaxi vehicles. Alphabet subsidiary Waymo launched the first limited commercial robotaxi service last December in Phoenix, and existing ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft have partnerships and pilot projects in development in various test cities (mostly those with great weather and little traffic). GM's self-driving subsidiary, Cruise, has postponed its 2019 launch plans but continues testing in San Francisco using the electric Chevy Bolt. And dozens of other robotaxi projects are in various phases of development, including an ambitious plan by Elon Musk to encourage Tesla owners to allow their idle electric vehicles to "gig away" when idle and join other company-owned vehicles in a robotaxi fleet. But to achieve a reality in which self-driven vehicles begin to displace their human-driven counterparts in large numbers, standardization is going to have to become a much more prominent part of the picture.
Are brain implants the future of thinking?
Almost two years ago, Dennis Degray sent an unusual text message to his friend. "You are holding in your hand the very first text message ever sent from the neurons of one mind to the mobile device of another," he recalls it read. Degray, 66, has been paralysed from the collarbones down since an unlucky fall over a decade ago. He was able to send the message because in 2016 he had two tiny squares of silicon with protruding metal electrodes surgically implanted in his motor cortex, the part of the brain that controls movement. By imagining moving a joystick with his hand, he is able to move a cursor to select letters on a screen.
