Over the next decade, healthcare is expected to see a huge amount of technological change. Artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) are expected to play a huge role. 'Building the Hospital of 2030', a report by Aruba, owned by Hewlett-Packard argued that the healthcare industry will need to embrace digital transformation in healthcare. These technologies are bound to be part of the mix. Aruba's study makes five key predictions for how the industry will transform by 2030, including: Darren Crombie, Founder of Upstream Health, adds: "I think what we are seeing in healthcare is a massive push towards AI, analytics IoT and robotics and the opportunities they can provide. From a patient management perspective, we want to drive preventative care to keep patients well in the first place and out of our hospital system. By having sensors and support tools in people's homes and feeding into analytics and AI, we can monitor their health remotely. On the analytics side, we have a push towards machine learning, allowing clinicians to act and take actions to deliver preventative and proactive care needed to make our system sustainable."


Coursera Cofounder Daphne Koller Melds AI And Biology In Drug Startup Insitro

Renowned machine learning expert Daphne Koller is the founder and CEO of drug discovery company Insitro. Daphne Koller talks fast, punctuating her words with gesticular flourishes as she shows off lab equipment through big glass windows in her South San Francisco offices. Along with a standard DNA sequencer, there's a high-powered microscope with automatic imaging and a machine that replaces manual pipetting by using ultrasonic acoustic energy to transfer fluids. The fancy gear is part of a robo-lab that provides the foundation for Koller's startup, Insitro. The ex-Stanford University computer science professor, MacArthur Fellow and cofounder of online education unicorn Coursera created Insitro to completely rethink the expensive, time-intensive drug discovery process.


City's Artificial Intelligence Research Centre and Institute for Cyber Security to lead Doctoral Training Programs

Supported by the European digital innovation and entrepreneurial education organization EIT Digital, City, University of London's Artificial Intelligence Research Centre (CitAI) and Institute for Cyber Security (ICS) will lead two new Doctoral Training Programs (DTPs). Starting in the 2019-2020 academic year will be a DTP in Artificial Intelligence (AI). This will enable the commercial deployment of AI technology in Europe and other regions by developing critical interdisciplinary capabilities in AI technology, particularly, though not exclusively in machine (deep) learning and explainable AI, with applications for solving real-life industrial problems. Dr Eduardo Alonso, Director of City's Artificial Intelligence Research Centre (CitAI) and lead for City's Master's programme in AI, will oversee this DTP. This program will be carried out in partnership with founding partners Delta Capital Ltd, Telefónica Innovación Alpha SL and Bosch AA-AS.


Mphasis Awarded US Patent for its AI System for Cognitive Analysis of Data

The patented algorithms have been integrated as part of Mphasis' NextLabs solutions such as HyperGrafTM, a comprehensive, feature-rich, business intelligence, and analytics solution, as well as DeepInsightsTM, a cognitive intelligence platform, which enables enterprises to gain faster and more effective access to insights from data. These solutions are some of Mphasis' latest offerings focusing on emerging paradigms of innovation such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning.

Suzanne Livingston to speak about artificial intelligence at Dezeen Day

Suzanne Livingston, curator of the recent Barbican Centre exhibition about artificial intelligence, will speak about the impact of technology on cities at Dezeen Day on 30 October. She will take part in a discussion about future cities, which will explore how urban areas will change in the face of technological, social and environmental pressures. Livingston curated AI: More than Human, which ran in London from May to August this year and will now tour internationally. The exhibition explored how AI will affect our lives and featured cutting-edge work by designers including Neri Oxman, Es Devlin, TeamLab and Yuri Suzuki. It explored topics including facial recognition, robotics and how AI can improve urban planning and road safety. Livingston has a PhD in Philosophy from Warwick University, where she was a founding member of the influential Cybernetic Culture Research Unit (CCRU).
