Only 10 Jobs Created for Every 100 Jobs Taken Away by AI

#artificialintelligence

At least 10 new AI-based jobs are being created for every 100 positions made redundant in traditional technology, experts in the field have said. However, the new roles are not being created as quickly as the positions that are eliminated and companies are increasingly training talent to fill the gap in artificial intelligence skills, believes Sridhar Mitta, founder of digital technology services provider NextWealth Entrepreneurs. "I guess, training skills outside the industry requires a collective ecosystem and efforts across different companies," said Prakash Mallya, the head of Intel India. The global opportunity of AI was estimated at about $15.7 trillion by 2030, according to a PwC report last year. Technology services companies are increasingly using AI at the core, raising the demand for talent.

The total number of job openings in the US alone rose to 7.3 million in June, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Recently, I read that there are job openings at a large US-based technology company for designers of chipsets to deploy in areas such as on-device machine learning. Forecasts suggest that there will be 3.5 million unfilled cyber-security positions by 2021 . Having said that, are job-seekers today equipped with the right skills to pursue the best jobs in IT? With rapid advances in technology, what one learnt at university or in the workplace over the past years, may not be enough for application in today's business scenario.

Trump-friendly tech guru: Silicon Valley sees China as 'the ultimate business opportunity, not the ultimate adversary'

FOX News

At the height of the 2016 presidential contest, then-Facebook executive Palmer Luckey was a Silicon Valley star when he donated $10,000 to an anti-Hillary Clinton group. Six months later, he was out – reportedly fired for his political positions. Now, Luckey runs a new venture, backed by Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel, that is reportedly valued at more than $1 billion. In the new FOX Nation documentary "Artificial Intelligence: The Coming Revolution," Fox Business Network anchor and'Mornings with Maria' host Maria Bartiromo went inside Luckey's Anduril Industries, which is at the forefront of America's race to use artificial intelligence to protect national security. "The thing about the United States is that we are at a strategic disadvantage because of the ethics that we have. We're not willing to play dirty. Russia and China don't have a problem with any of those things," Luckey told Fox Nation.

#artificialintelligence

"Mirror, mirror on the wall. . The idea of a mirror not only reflecting your image back to you but also augmenting it is no longer a fairytale. Several companies have made significant progress in creating smart mirrors, also called digital mirrors or smart displays, that can help you in the dressing room as well as when you're in the hair stylist's seat or shopping for makeup. The silver-glassed mirrors most of us are familiar with today got their start more than 200 years ago in Germany. While they still serve a useful purpose when reflecting your image back to you, some fashion and beauty leaders figured that if you added smart technology to mirrors, they could elevate the customer experience.

Intel's David Ryan on the past and future of AI in healthcare

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence is all the rage in healthcare as companies look for tech-driven ways to cut costs and promote patient health. Tech giants like Intel, Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Apple have swooped in to assist payers and providers with their efforts to join the fast-paced environment. Santa Clara, California-based Intel boasts partnerships across myriad sectors in healthcare. For example, earlier this year, not-for-profit integrated health system Sharp HealthCare, which is based in San Diego, used Intel's predictive analytics capabilities to alert its rapid-response team to identify high-risk patients before a health crisis occurred. And currently, Intel is working with pharmaceutical company Novartis on deep neural networks to accelerate content screening in drug discovery.

Sustainable Life, Challenge Accepted – an interview with Lisa Leibold and Aurélie Wen

#artificialintelligence

"To keep the intellectual property with the developer is of great importance for Agorize," say Lisa Leibold and Aurélie Wen from Agorize in Canada, as we speak about open innovation and hackathons as a service against the background of one of their latest projects, the "Discover AI challenge: Sustainable Life" for Microsoft Canada. How do you describe open innovation processes from your point of view: How did they evolve and what are they about? Open innovation includes the public into innovation processes, it utilizes resources of an ecosystem as well as from the public to develop new ideas and innovate. In comparison, the traditional innovation approach is that of a closed innovation, where companies want to protect their knowledge and innovation is seen as the business of conventional experts. This process started to open up more and more.
