Deepfakes and the Future of Entertainment - Comic Years

#artificialintelligence

By the end of the 20th century, celebrity endorsements were certainly not unusual, except for the rather important detail that Astaire had been dead for 10 years at that point. Unsurprisingly then, reaction was mixed, bordering on negative. But a precedent had been set, so by the time Peter Cushing was digitally inserted into 2016's Rogue One, the resulting controversy was barely a blip. A year later, though, we learned about deepfakes. A deepfake is a video that's been created using a combination of a kind of machine learning, algorithms, and possibly magic.

Artificial intelligence isn't very intelligent and won't be any time soon 7wData

#artificialintelligence

Many think we'll see human-level artificial intelligence in the next 10 years. Industry continues to boast smarter tech like personalized assistants or self-driving cars. And in computer science, new and powerful tools embolden researchers to assert that we are nearing the goal in the quest for human-level artificial intelligence. Despite the hype, despite progress, we are far from machines that think like you and me. Last year Google unveiled Duplex -- a Pixel smartphone assistant which can call and make reservations for you. When asked to schedule an appointment, say at a hair salon, Duplex makes the phone call.

NeurIPS (prev. NIPS) Papers Selection

#artificialintelligence

Sad not to attend NeurIPS (previously NIPS) this year? Thus I have written this papers selection for the 2018 edition that I want to share with you! NeurIPS (Neural Information Systems Processing, previously called NIPS) is more popular than a Beyoncรฉ concert. The biggest AI conference in the world sold out in just a few minutes this year. Moreover, the number of accepted papers this year breaks all records (more than one thousand).

Courses The major educational initiative of the JHUDSL is to create open-source online courses delivered through a range of platforms including Youtube, Github, Leanpub, and Coursera. Welcome to the "Introduction to Deep Learning" course! In the first week you'll learn about linear models and stochatic optimization methods. Please note that this is an advanced course and we assume basic knowledge of machine learning. I am currently working as a data science researcher and trainee at Jheronimus Academy of Data Science.

Emotion for the win โ€“ Unleash your creativity with the power of AI โ€“ TechMarketers

#artificialintelligence

On the face of it, it seems like some kind of impossible oxymoron. But it makes perfect senseโ€ฆ (Or at least it does to me now that I've attended the NZ Tech Marketers September event, Unleash your creativity with the power of AI.) Auckland's Tech Marketer contingent had the benefit of insights from Amanda Johnston-Pell, IBM's Chief Marketing Officer for Australia and New Zealand, and our Wellington and Christchurch cohort were joined by the ever-impassioned Isuru (Issy) Fernando, IBM New Zealand's Chief Design and Technology Officer. Both shared findings from the recent IBM 2019 Marketing Trends report: Nine factors reshaping marketing and how you can stay ahead of them. Doing this makes it less scary, binary and wo/man v. machine-ish. Issy says: "There's a lot of hype and uncertainty โ€“ and a lot of fud โ€“ out there about what AI is. We need to think of AI as less artificial reality and more augmented reality. It really changes the conversation. "If you look at humans across civilisation we've been augmenting ourselves with machines all the time.

Healthcare cybersecurity โ€“ the impact of AI, IoT-related threats and recommended approaches

#artificialintelligence

Currently leading healthcare security strategy at Cylera, a biomedical HIoT security startup, Richard Staynings has more than two decades of experience in both cybersecurity leadership and client consulting in healthcare. Last year, he served on the Committee of Inquiry into the SingHealth breach in Singapore as an expert witness. He recently spoke to Healthcare IT News on some of the current developments in healthcare cybersecurity. Q. Artificial intelligence (AI) applications in healthcare are all the rage now, and so are cybersecurity threats, given the frequency and intensity of healthcare-related incidents. In particular, some of the cyberattacks have become more sophisticated through the use of AI to get past cyber defenses.

Biofourmis' Biovitals Analytics Engine Receives FDA Clearance for Ambulatory Physiologic Monitoring

#artificialintelligence

Biofourmis, a fast-growing global leader in digital therapeutics, has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its machine-learning and artificial intelligence (AI)-powered Biovitals Analytics Engine as a medical device for ambulatory physiological monitoring. This regulatory approval of the Biovitals Analytics Engine is part of FDA's growing recognition of machine-learning and AI in the Software as a Medical Device category. "This milestone approval is foundational to the Biovitals ecosystem, which includes not only our most advanced solution, BiovitalsHF for heart failure--but also our range of solutions across therapeutic areas, such as pain, oncology, sleep disorders and others in development," said Kuldeep Singh Rajput, CEO and founder of Biofourmis. "Receiving this important regulatory approval will only accelerate the development and commercialization of these innovative digital therapeutic solutions." This FDA approval is the second market authorization for Biofourmis, having earned the agency's approval in May 2019 for its Biovitals RhythmAnalytics platform, which is cloud-based software for automated interpretation of more than 15 types of cardiac arrhythmias.
