It is the first graduate level, research-based AI university in the world. MBZUAI will enable graduate students, businesses, and governments to advance artificial intelligence. The university is named after His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who has long advocated for the UAE's development of human capital through knowledge and scientific thinking to take the nation into the future. MBZUAI will introduce a new model of academia and research to the field of AI, providing students and faculty access to some of the world's most advanced AI systems to unleash its potential for economic and societal development. The announcement was made at a press conference at the University campus in Masdar City and was immediately followed by the first meeting of the MBZUAI Board of Trustees. Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State, who has been appointed Chair of the MBZUAI board of trustees and is spearheading the establishment of the University, said: "Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence aligns with the vision of the UAE leadership that is based on sustainable development, progress and the overall well-being of humanity and underpinned by capacity-building and active participation in finding practical solutions based on innovation and state-of-the-art technology.

Opinion: How companies can prepare for the disruptive power of AI

U.S.-based artificial intelligence research organization OpenAI have rolled out a robot hand that can take and solve a Rubik's Cube. Joshua Gans is a professor of Strategic Management at the Rotman School of Management and the chief economist at the Creative Destruction Lab. Tiff Macklem is dean of Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. Last week, the U.S.-based artificial intelligence research organization, OpenAI, rolled out a robot hand that can take and solve a Rubik's Cube. Creating a robot with visual sense and complex touch and dexterity is an impressive achievement in AI.

ML (Machine Learning) at Georgia Tech

#artificialintelligence

The United States Department of Energy (DOE) has given three institutions a $5.5 million grant to collectively find solutions to some of the most challenging problems in artificial intelligence (AI) today. Scientists from Georgia Tech, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and Sandia National Laboratory will collaborate to develop technologies that are core to the DOE's priorities including cybersecurity, graph analytics, and electric grid resilience. Tushar Krishna, an assistant professor in Georgia Tech's School of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Machine Learning Center (ML@GT), will serve as a deputy director of the newly established Center for Artificial Intelligence-focused Architectures and Algorithms (ARIAA). Georgia Tech is contributing expertise in modeling and developing custom accelerators for machine learning and sparse linear algebra. The institute will also provide access to its advanced computing resources.

Look Out Zillow Here Comes Jestimate!

#artificialintelligence

As someone with expertise in both real estate and data science, I've always been fascinated by Zillow's Zestimate. In the spirit of competition, I've developed Jim's estimate or Jestimate! The following interactive map contains 2018 home sales in San Francisco by neighborhood. Click on the neighborhood and then click on a home in the data table to see the Jestimate results versus the actual sales price. Zestimate uses a proprietary machine learning formula to estimate the current market value of a home.

NVIDIA Aerial Software Accelerates 5G on NVIDIA GPUs NVIDIA Blog

#artificialintelligence

Speeding the mass adoption of AI at the 5G edge, NVIDIA has introduced Aerial, a software developer kit enabling GPU-accelerated, software-defined wireless radio access networks. In his keynote at Mobile World Congress Los Angeles, NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang detailed how Aerial, running on the NVIDIA EGX platform, enables AI services and immersive content at the edge of 5G networks. This allows telcos to dynamically -- on a session-by-session basis -- offer unique services to customers. Traditional solutions cannot be reconfigured quickly, therefore telco operators need a new network architecture. One that's high performance and reconfigurable by the second, Huang explained. Such virtualized radio access networks run in the wireless infrastructure closest to customers, making it well suited to offer AI services at the edge.

The Emergence of DataOps Empowers the Future of Data Management Analytics Insight

#artificialintelligence

Organizations today are going through a variety of digital hardships. They are trying to find ways to derive value from data through which they want to achieve specific business outcomes. But doing so is not a cakewalk, it takes a lot of effort from data scientists' end to mine data to carve analytics application for driving innovative and efficient decision-making. In order to make analytics more effective, businesses are replacing traditional data management with an emerging set of practices. These practices are focused on collaboration and automation and are known as data operations, or DataOps. DataOps is a junction of advanced data governance and analytics delivery practices that incorporates the data life cycle.

Star Trek Movie's 40th anniversary, Superintelligence and the Singularity

#artificialintelligence

Last week, I went to see the 40th anniversary re-release of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (or ST:TMP for short). I had seen the movie as a kid when it first came out in 1979, after seeing many episodes of Star Trek via re-runs pretty much every-day throughout the 1970s (which were responsible for increasing the show's popularity since it had been cancelled after 3 seasons after its debut in 1966). The 40th anniversary screening had a little featurette before the movie that had some of the actors and producers talking about the onerous process of bringing this troubled movie to the screen (it was called The Longest Trek: Writing the Motion Picture,"). Seeing it again now, after all these years, I was struck by a few different things about the movie and its history that I either didn't know or hadn't thought about. For one thing, the re-issue had the same music as the TV show Star Trek: The Next Generation (ST:TNG) n, which struck me as odd.

Investorideas.com Newswire - AI Stock News: GBT (OTCPINK: GTCH) and BitSpeed Announce Joint Venture GBT BitSpeed Corp.

#artificialintelligence

Newswire) GBT Technologies Inc. (OTCPINK: GTCH) ("GBT", or the "Company"), a company specializing in the development of Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled networking and tracking technologies, including its GopherInsight wireless mesh network technology platform for both mobile and fixed solutions, announced that it has entered into a Joint Venture ("JV") Agreement with BitSpeed LLC ("BitSpeed"), a software development company located in the Los Angeles area. BitSpeed is currently partnered with a major Cloud Platform (GCP) and has an agreement to supply its software through GCP's Partner Advantage program, where their customers can buy certified solutions directly from GCP. BitSpeed's Concurrency application competes in the Extreme File Transfer market, which is a subset of the larger Managed File Transfer or MFT market. "Managed file transfer is a type of software that allows the transfer of files inside an organization or between multiple organizations. This method is a fast, secure, reliable, and a transparent way of exchanging files, with additional features such as tracking and monitoring. As a result, one can discover the loss of data from a specific point, and also receive an acknowledgement after successful completion of a file transfer process. With the advent of digitalization, companies are becoming heavily dependent on the successful transmission of digital files bearing critical information. Hence, this transmission should be secure, reliable, and quick to run the business process smoothly in real time. The demand for efficient and effective file transfer has been increasing in the past few years."
