While #AI can automate basic tasks, there still remains the challenge of freeing employees up to develop the skills needed to successfully implement AI and to benefit from its power.

Spatial networks in R with sf and tidygraph

#artificialintelligence

All examples of spatial networks: organized systems of nodes and edges embedded in space. For most of them, these nodes and edges can be associated with geographical coordinates. That is, the nodes are geographical points, and the edges geographical lines. Such spatial networks can be analyzed using graph theory. Not for nothing, Leonhard Eulers famous work on the Seven Bridges of Kรถningsberg, which laid the foundations of graph theory and network analysis, was in essence a spatial problem.

Digital Disruption: E-commerce Revolution & How to Be Future Ready

#artificialintelligence

For most of human history, people have been good at predicting future technologies. Today however, predicting things even just 5 years ahead seems to end up futile. India is at the cusp of an e-commerce revolution. Although e-commerce has been making the rounds in the country for over a decade, it is in recent years that an appropriate ecosystem has begun to fall in place. Factors such as internet access, staggering penetration of mobile phones and robust investment have driven the growth of this industry and if current projections are anything to go by, India is en route to becoming the world's fastest growing e-commerce market.

DARPA is betting on AI to bring the next generation of wireless devices online

#artificialintelligence

Traditionally, so-called radio spectrum hasn't been allocated in the most efficient way. The bands are then parceled out to different commercial and government entities for their exclusive use. While the process helps services avoid interference with one another, whoever holds the rights to a bit of spectrum rarely uses all of it 100% of the time. As a result, a large fraction of the allocated frequencies end up unused at any given moment.

Last Week in AI

Every week, my team at Invector Labs publishes a newsletter to track the most recent developments in AI research and technology. You can find this week's issue below. You can sign up for it below. Data privacy is one of the biggest challenges of modern machine learning applications. In order to build machine learning models, researchers need to have complete access to datasets that often contain sensitive data.

We're Designing a Responsible AI Future - The Rockefeller Foundation

#artificialintelligence

Artificial Intelligence ("AI") technology is transforming the way humans interact and society operates. As the development of AI accelerates, many of us see the need for a movement that ensures we harness AI's benefits and mitigate its risks. To explore these questions and start identifying solutions, The Rockefeller Foundation has designed A Month of AI in Bellagio that kicks off this week. The Bellagio Center is a remarkable conference and residency center in Italy celebrating 60 years of enabling groundbreaking ideas, partnerships, and commitments. After months of consultations with a range of experts, we have curated a month-long residency program and three week-long conferences that will bring together leading experts and innovators from technology, the public sector, social sciences, and the arts.

Artificial Intelligence will Make the Workplace More Human, not Less

#artificialintelligence

New AI systems have beyond-human cognitive abilities, which many of us fear could potentially dehumanize the future of work. However, by automating these skills, AI will push human professionals up the skillset ladder into uniquely human skills such as creativity, social abilities, empathy, and sense-making, which machines cannot automate. As a result, AI will make the workplace more human, not less. This is the gift of AI to Mankind. However, humans will need to change jobs and learn new skills throughout their lives.

Human speech will be replaced by thought communication by 2050, claims expert

Marko Karjnovic unveiled his ideas at The Museum of the Future as part of the World Government Summit in Dubai. The Hybrid Intelligence Biometric Avatar (HIBA), will understand the feelings of people connected to it, take on their personas, exchange information with them and even become part of the fabric of their brains. Mr Karjnovic, who has produced the exhibit, explained: "It is very similar to the work of Elon Musk โ€“ it is an open source platform for humanity. "HIBA will have the ability to connect the minds of the most clever of us, combining those minds with everything it can find out practically and put it all together in hybrid intelligence."

Artificial Intelligence can detect diabetic eye - Times of India

#artificialintelligence

WASHINGTON: Taking science to the next level, researchers have found that an automated artificial intelligence (AI) screening system is now capable of accurately discovering diabetic retinopathy 95.5 per cent of the time. Moreover, the system doesn't require inputs from an expert ophthalmologist and it can provide a reading in just 60 seconds. Researchers presented these findings at AAO 2019, the 123rd Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Diabetic retinopathy can develop over time in people with diabetes, especially when they have poor control over their blood sugar levels. High blood sugar can damage tiny blood vessels at the back of the eye.
