A Gentle Introduction to Monte Carlo Sampling for Probability
Monte Carlo methods are a class of techniques for randomly sampling a probability distribution. There are many problem domains where describing or estimating the probability distribution is relatively straightforward, but calculating a desired quantity is intractable. This may be due to many reasons, such as the stochastic nature of the domain or an exponential number of random variables. Instead, a desired quantity can be approximated by using random sampling, referred to as Monte Carlo methods. These methods were initially used around the time that the first computers were created and remain pervasive through all fields of science and engineering, including artificial intelligence and machine learning.
The Brain Prize 2019: French neuroscientists honoured for outstanding research into small vessel strokes in the brain - Lundbeckfonden
Aiming for treatment they have spent more than 30 years describing, understanding and diagnosing the most common hereditary form of stroke, CADASIL. For this, the four French neuroscientists are now receiving the world's most valuable prize for brain research – the Lundbeck Foundation Brain Prize, worth 1 million euros. Each year 17 million people worldwide suffer a stroke. Around 30 percent of these are mini strokes caused by changes in the small vessels of the brain. To begin with, these strokes cause temporary symptoms such as weakness, numbness and impaired coordination.
Intelligence community laying foundation for AI data analysis Federal News Network
Artificial intelligence is a concept that seems tailor-made for the intelligence community. The ability to sort through massive amounts of data, seeking out patterns large and small, anomalies that warrant further investigation, that's what intelligence analysts do already. Imagine what they could achieve when augmented by AI? Dean Souleles, chief technology advisor for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, said on Agency in Focus – Intelligence Community that the IC is working now to lay the foundation for adopting AI. "You cannot build a house without a solid foundation. The foundation of AI is data and computational technology," Souleles said. "The intelligence community has spent much of the last decade on a program we call ICITE, the information technology enterprise of the IC. And that's been about modernizing the technology infrastructure. And that is about getting cloud technology throughout the community, making basic computational capability available to our technologists just as it is in the private sector. But that's not good enough, because the new era of computation requires sophisticated kinds of computing. We talk about GPUs, graphical processing units, or tensor processing units (TPUs), or neuromorphic chips or field programmable gate arrays, or any of the wide variety of things that are the specialized computation that enable AI computation. And we need to make the investments in those things."

Can a company move to cloud without losing visibility and control over their security posture?
Can an organisation responsibly entrust their most sensitive data and workloads to a cloud service provider without losing visibility and control? Must you risk trading security for convenience in a hybrid and multi-cloud environment? These are the kind of questions that will crop up in mind when moving your assets to the flexibility and decentralised nature of a cloud environment. As organisations move to the cloud, Diana Kelley, Microsoft's Cyber Security Field CTO, told TechRadar Middle East, that they [organisations] don't have the same kind of visibility they had on-premises but that does not mean they don't have visibility. Microsoft has two data centres in the UAE – one in Abu Dhabi and one in Dubai.

Plastic Dinosaur approached the irregularly shaped object, a platform with four stems reaching to the floor with a projection upward in the rear. He was skittish as he approached, not knowing what it was, his amygdalanet sending out warnings while curiousnet sent out its desire to approach. It didn't react or move or make noise, so he sniffed it, nudged it and then walked away to charge. To Prepare for Automation, Stay Curious and Don't Stop Learning -
Earlier this year, President Trump signed an executive order for the "American AI Initiative," to guide AI developments and investments in the following areas: research and development, ethical standards, automation, and international outreach. This initiative is indicative of the changing times, and how, as a country, the U.S. is learning to navigate the implications of AI. Leaders in the business world, specifically, are faced with the responsibility of equipping our employees with the skills necessary for paving long-lasting career paths, and the workforce must discover what will be expected as technology continues to disrupt the norm, and work as we know it. As a global business leader, an AI optimist, and a father, I find myself asking: What will make a career sustainable in 2020 and beyond? Will the future of education rise to meet the demands of the future of work?
