BLOCKCHAIN Congress 2020

#artificialintelligence

The 2nd International Congress on Blockchain and Applications 2020 will be held in L'Aquila from 17th to 19th of June, 2020. This annual congress will reunite blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) researchers, who will share ideas, projects, lectures, and advances associated with those technologies and their application domains. This meeting will be co-located with that of PAAMS'20. Among the scientific community, blockchain and AI are seen as a promising combination that will transform the production and manufacturing industry, media, finance, insurance, e-government, etc. Nevertheless, there is no consensus with schemes or best practices that would specify how blockchain and AI should be used together.

Booming STEM careers in virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and software engineering

#artificialintelligence

November 8 is National STEM Day, a day celebrating science, technology, engineering, and math. The STEM field of 20 years ago looks very different than the one of today and will look very different in even just five years. Inspired by the air shows he saw growing up, Bill Marx went into the aerospace field in the mid-90s. Now, he is the chief technology officer at Intuitive Research and Technology Corporation. "A lot of the stuff you used to use a supercomputer for 30 years ago," Marx said.

Deep neural networks uncover what the brain likes to see

#artificialintelligence

Experimental approaches to characterize their responses to images have proven challenging in part because the number of possible images is endless. In the past, seminal insights often resulted from stimuli that neurons in the brain'liked.' Finding them relied on the intuition of the scientists and a good portion of luck. Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Tรผbingen in Germany have now developed a novel computational approach to accelerate finding these optimal stimuli. They built deep artificial neural networks that can accurately predict the neural responses produced by a biological brain to arbitrary visual stimuli.

UCSF Launches Artificial Intelligence Center to Advance Medical Imaging

#artificialintelligence

This post was authored by Elizabeth Fernandez, senior public information representative with UCSF News. "Intelligent Imaging" Hub will harness computational tools in medical imaging to improve patient care. UC San Francisco is launching a new center to accelerate the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to radiology, leveraging advanced computational techniques and industry collaborations to improve patient diagnoses and care. The Center for Intelligent Imaging, or ci2, will develop and apply AI to devise powerful new ways to look inside the body and to evaluate health and disease. Investigators in ci2 will team with Santa Clara, California-based NVIDIA Corp., an industry leader in AI computing, to build infrastructure and tools focused on enabling the translation of AI into clinical practice.

Project Silica proof of concept stores Warner Bros. 'Superman' movie on quartz glass

#artificialintelligence

Microsoft and Warner Bros. have collaborated to successfully store and retrieve the entire 1978 iconic "Superman" movie on a piece of glass roughly the size of a drink coaster, 75 by 75 by 2 millimeters thick. It was the first proof of concept test for Project Silica, a Microsoft Research project that uses recent discoveries in ultrafast laser optics and artificial intelligence to store data in quartz glass. Machine learning algorithms read the data back by decoding images and patterns that are created as polarized light shines through the glass. The hard silica glass can withstand being boiled in hot water, baked in an oven, microwaved, flooded, scoured, demagnetized and other environmental threats that can destroy priceless historic archives or cultural treasures if things go wrong. It represents an investment by Microsoft Azure to develop storage technologies built specifically for cloud computing patterns, rather than relying on storage media designed to work in computers or other scenarios.

Teaching machine learning through robot application development on AWS Amazon Web Services

#artificialintelligence

Today, machine learning influences research and consumer products and is leading to breakthroughs across industries like healthcare, manufacturing, finance, and retail. In the field of reinforcement learning, machine learning meets the real world when applied to robotics. Knowing this, how can we ensure students are skilled and prepared to leverage the power of this technology? Intermind Co. is an education group bringing academic programs from leading universities on subjects like machine learning and artificial intelligence to international college students. We recently created a project-based learning experience around the use of Robot Operating System (ROS), the leading open-source framework for writing robot software, and AWS RoboMaker, a service that helps develop, test, and deploy intelligent robotics applications at scale.

Google updates Teachable Machine so you can train an AI without code

#artificialintelligence

Machine learning and artificial intelligence are complex subjects and while you might see them being mentioned every day, you might not necessarily understand how they work. Two years ago, Google launched a site called Teachable Machine, which let you train a simple model using their camera without any code. Now, it's launching an updated version so you can train more advanced models. The earlier version allowed you to train three classes through your camera. The new model, not only lets you define more than three classes, it also allows you to use images, audio clips, pose data, or your own dataset for the training.
