Open AI Caribbean Data Science Challenge

#artificialintelligence

The following post is from Neha Goel, Champion of student competitions and online data science competitions. She's here to promote a new Deep Learning challenge available to everyone. If you win, you get money, plus a bonus if you use MATLAB. We at MathWorks, in collaboration with DrivenData, are excited to bring you this challenge. Through this challenge you'll be working with a real-world dataset of drone aerial imagery (big images) for classification.

AI for Accessibility

#artificialintelligence

According to the World Health Organization, 1 billion people on Earth have some form of disability. It's not surprising, then, that Microsoft's AI for Good campaign supports efforts that drive accessibility, empowering people to achieve more, regardless of their level of ability. AI for Good is a $50 million commitment from Microsoft to enable innovators to create solutions that leverage artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The support includes use of Microsoft's Azure cloud and AI tools. AI can serve as the'brains' behind tools that enhance independence and productivity for people who have disabilities.

Digital business transformation accelerates: Just ask NCR, Zillow, Axon ZDNet

#artificialintelligence

An hour of earnings reports highlighted how every business will go digital, becoming software-based and utilize artificial intelligence. Michael Dale Hayford, CEO of NCR, said the company is looking to create software defined stores in its retail business. And banking, which is becoming more about the ATM than the branch. NCR reported third quarter revenue of $1.78 billion, up 15% from a year ago, with net income of $105 million. The company saw strong growth in both ATM and point of sale terminals.

Industrial AI is supporting the Indian Startup Industry beyond e-Commerce

#artificialintelligence

India has become the third-largest startup nation globally. Many of its business-to-consumer (B2C) ventures are known across the world, be it for an e-commerce website, Flipkart or ride-sharing application, Ola. Presently, a wave of business-to-business (B2B) startups in the niche is quietly making a considerable effect comprehensively. Ascending from the roads of common rural areas, they are breaking the unreasonable impediment, worldwide oil and gas majors and enormous producers being their clients. These organizations are exclusively answerable for India's leap forward in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) space.

Capitalism 2.0: the economy of the future will be powered by neural lace

#artificialintelligence

A battle for the "soul" of the global economy is underway. The next few decades will likely decide whether capitalism survives or is replaced with a techno-fuelled quasi-socialism where robots do most of the jobs while humans live off government support, likely a designated guaranteed or basic income. Many experts believe wide-scale automation is inevitable. Even the world's largest hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates, recently announced it's building an AI to replace its managers, many of whom are highly educated and previously thought invulnerable to automation. Robots, it seems, will manage everything.

New AI System Predicts Seizures With Near-Perfect Accuracy - Web AI

#artificialintelligence

For the roughly 50 million people worldwide with epilepsy, the exchange of electrical signals between cells in their brain can sometimes go haywire and cause a seizure--often with little to no warning. Two researchers at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette have developed a new AI-powered model that can predict the occurrence of seizures up to one hour before onset with 99.6 percent accuracy. "Due to unexpected seizure times, epilepsy has a strong psychological and social effect on patients," explains Hisham Daoud, a researcher who co-developed the new model. Detecting seizures ahead of time could greatly improve the quality of life for patients with epilepsy and provide them with enough time to take action, he says. Notably, seizures are controllable with medication in up to 70 percent of these patients.

Can Artificial Intelligence Detect and Prevent Senior Falls?

#artificialintelligence

VA2CS, the European leader in AI-Powered Fall Detection and Prevention, is launching its product at GSA 2019! The solution is already deployed in 2,700 rooms in 6 European countries. Artificial Intelligence uses visual and infrared sensors to automatically detect when a person is falling and trigger alarm to care-givers. A short recording of the fall allows care-givers to understand the reasons for the fall and to take corrective actions. "Most existing solutions based on a press-button pendant or watch are not reliable; people just don't wear them or forget to press the button when the fall happens," says Ramzi Larbi, VA2CS CEO.

Study Suggests Robots Are More Persuasive When They Pretend To Be Human

#artificialintelligence

Advances in artificial intelligence have created bots and machines that can potentially pass as humans if they interact with people exclusively through a digital medium. Recently, a team of computer science researchers have studied how robots/machines and humans interact when the humans believe that the robots are also human. As reported by ScienceDaily, the results of the study found that people find robots/chatbots more persuasive when they believe the bots are human. Talal Rahwan, the associate professor of Computer Science at NYU Abu Dhabi, has recently led a study that examined how robots and humans interact with each other. The results of the experiment were published in Nature Machine Intelligence in a report called Transparency-Efficiency Tradeoff in Human-Machine Cooperation. During the course of the study, test subjects were instructed to play a cooperative game with a partner, and the partner may be either a human or a bot.
