The chamber hushed as the debate got underway at the Cambridge Union and the teams launched into their carefully crafted opening statements. The topic - whether artificial intelligence would do more harm than good - was something each side had a big stake in because both were using the technology to deliver their arguments. Cambridge University, home to the world's oldest debating society, was the setting Thursday night for a demonstration of what the future might hold. IBM's Project Debater, a robot that has already debated humans, was for the first time being pitted against itself, at least in the first round. Artificial intelligence "will not be able to make a decision that is the morally correct one, because morality is unique to humans," the computer system said in a synthetic and vaguely feminine voice.

The outlook for machine learning in tech: ML and AI skills in high demand

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is proving to be the most significant technological advancement across all industries in recent decades. While we're still years away from the robotics side of AI, the machine learning (ML) sector has exploded by helping companies with everything from improving customer retention rates to driving enhanced insights from big data and even mitigating supply chain risks. With the global machine learning market anticipated to grow from $1.4B in 2017 to $8.8B by 2022 according to a recent report by Research and Markets, here's a look at where those investments are headed and what it means for increasingly in-demand machine learning talent. Last year, Amazon introduced us all to Alexa in the workplace, but this voice-activated, AI-powered device is only the beginning. Natural language processing (NLP), made possible through machine learning, helps computers, systems, and solutions better understand the context and meaning of sentences.

The Double-edged Sword of AI and Machine Learning on Healthcare Data Security

#artificialintelligence

The UAE government is leading the way in establishing the necessary integrated and secure data ecosystem to expedite the implementation of future technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, which use data from many disparate sources to produce unprecedented services that will transform all aspects of people's wellness and everyday life. AI and machine learning offers hope in reducing the risk and impact of cyber-attacks on patient data, but also opens doors to potential wrong doers – "The Bad Guys" – by its very nature. Security threats are, and always have been, major concerns to healthcare organizations due to the value and vulnerability of the clinical data that is being recorded and distributed. The value of the data comes from the fact that it directly affects our ability to safely treat patients. Due to its content and historical nature it can be very big, so it takes a long time to rebuild, and it contains more than just clinical data.
