Robot Fails: These 8 Robots Aren't Going to Destroy Humanity Just Yet
Long gone are the days when talk of the existential threat of robots was confined to science fiction. Killer robots are a real worry today. So much so that thousands of academics, scientists, and engineers have signed a petition as part of the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots. Thankfully, we still have time to make a change by putting laws in place that will prevent governments from developing these technologies unchecked. Robots are a long way from being the Skynet monstrosities we see in the movies.
AI Dungeon 2 is Here with Its Infinitely Generated World for Gamers to Explore
Imagine a game where your world infinitely creates itself, you can keep exploring tirelessly, and continuously experience new content and adventures. Welcome to AI Dungeon 2, developed by Nick Walton who creates AI-generated adventures. The icing on the cake, the game also enables players to select any action they desire, without being constricted to what the developers created. This is a one-of-a-kind AI-generated text adventure that took Walton "hundreds of hours" to complete. AI Dungeon 2 is done!
Microsoft's Seeing AI app helps the blind in five more languages
Microsoft's Seeing AI has been helpful for describing objects and text to the blind, but there's been a key problem: it has only been available in English, making it a non-starter if you don't speak the language. That won't be a problem for some people from now on. Microsoft has updated the iOS-only app with support for Dutch, French, German, Japanese and Spanish, letting many more people read signs, interpret someone's facial expressions and otherwise navigate the world using spoken cues in their native tongues. While the language support still leaves many people without access (most notably highly populated countries like China and India), it goes a long way toward making the computer vision technology more accessible outside of North America and the UK. The lack of Android support is a concern, though.
Invited Talk: Symbolic Reasoning About Machine Learning Systems (PADL 2020 : 22nd Symposium on Practical Aspects of Declarative Languages) - POPL 2020
I will discuss a line of work in which we compile common machine learning systems into symbolic representations that have the same input-output behavior to facilitate formal reasoning about these systems. We have targeted Bayesian network classifiers, random forests and some types of neural networks, compiling each into tractable Boolean circuits, including Ordered Binary Decision Diagrams (OBDDs). Once the machine learning system is compiled into a tractable Boolean circuit, reasoning can commence using classical AI and computer science techniques. This includes generating explanations for decisions, quantifying robustness and verifying properties such as monotonicity. I will particularly discuss a new theory for unveiling the reasons behind the decisions made by classifiers, which can detect classifier bias sometimes from the reasons behind unbiased decisions.
NeurIPS 2019 - Facebook Research
Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS) is the largest conference in AI, with machine learning and neuroscience experts traveling from around the world to discuss the latest advances in the field. For 2019, NeurIPS is taking place in Vancouver, British Columbia from Sunday, December 8 to Saturday, December 14, and is projected to attract over 15,000 attendees. Among the attendees are Facebook researchers and engineers in AI, core data science, networking and infrastructure, augmented and virtual reality, and more. Many will be presenting their research in poster sessions, spotlight talks, workshops, and tutorials at the conference. For a day-by-day schedule of the Facebook research being presented at NeurIPS, click here.
EnterWorks Hosts Forrester Webcast on December 10:
STERLING, Va., Dec. 5, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- EnterWorks, a leading provider of Master Data Management (MDM) and Product Information Management (PIM) solutions, has announced a live webcast event featuring Michele Goetz, Principal Analyst, Business Insights, Information Architecture and Artificial Intelligence, at Forrester. The webinar, "How AI, Machine Learning and Data Strategy Can Enable Compelling New Products & Experiences," will take place on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm EST. It is sponsored by EnterWorks; Amplifi, an information management consultancy that helps the world's leading brands, retailers and manufacturers to harness and unleash the power of their data; and Sisense, a business intelligence software and analytics platform. The webinar will inform participants how artificial intelligence, machine learning and data strategy can enable compelling new products and experiences, and how deploying AI and ML depends on effective master data and its proper governance. According to Forrester's Goetz, many companies have initiated AI and ML projects only to find that they have not established the foundation for success that comes with implementing a comprehensive data management strategy and the platforms needed to make replicable and scalable success possible.
The Artificial Intelligence Industry and Global Challenges - CTOvision.com
Whoever controls the strongest artificial intelligence controls the world. Artificial intelligence is the most important technology of the 21st century. It is therefore important to understand global ambitions and movements. In this article I examine the global artificial intelligence industry and in this context consider the aspects of politics, data, economy, start-ups, financing, research and infrastructure. I will only briefly discuss the current superpowers China and the USA, as I will dedicate a separate article to each of them.
Robots in Finance Could Wipe Out Some of Its Highest-Paying Jobs
Robots have replaced thousands of routine jobs on Wall Street. That's the contention of Marcos Lopez de Prado, a Cornell University professor and the former head of machine learning at AQR Capital Management LLC, who testified in Washington on Friday about the impact of artificial intelligence on capital markets and jobs. The use of algorithms in electronic markets has automated the jobs of tens of thousands of execution traders worldwide, and it's also displaced people who model prices and risk or build investment portfolios, he said. "Financial machine learning creates a number of challenges for the 6.14 million people employed in the finance and insurance industry, many of whom will lose their jobs -- not necessarily because they are replaced by machines, but because they are not trained to work alongside algorithms," Lopez de Prado told the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services. During the almost two-hour hearing, lawmakers asked experts about racial and gender bias in AI, competition for highly skilled technology workers, and the challenges of regulating increasingly complex, data-driven financial markets.
How to Get Started as an AI Developer for Self-Driving Cars
A few decades back Artificial Intelligence was tasked as the technology of the future. Fast forward to today, it is quickly transitioning from the much-hyped future technology to surrounding us and affecting our daily lives. Right from predicting the next word to type in a text message to taking Instagram perfect pictures, Artificial Intelligence is being fused into products and services that we use on a daily basis. In the Manufacturing sector, AI has been at the forefront in driving transformation. In particular, this technology has disrupted the car manufacturing industry spawning the era of self-driving cars.
