Rapidly expanding market of chatbot solutions drives many businesses to discovery of value, benefits and competitive advantages of chatbots. In this situation companies that are planning to add a chatbot to their IT infrastructure are often not familiar with the principles and components of chatbots and so decision makers are in situation that they have to define business strategies without sufficient knowledge about chatbot ecosystem. In this article we will try to clarify these aspects and describe value and impact of each component based on our experience of building chatbots. First of all, we would like to mention that many people (even skilled and experienced in business process management) have too simplistic vision about chatbots. There are dozens of "do-it-yourself" kits on the market, but building your own solution (dedicated to needs of particular business model) without proper understanding of the whole "chatbot universe" could end with disappointment of business and customer frustration (and what is even worse – loss of trust to your chatbot).

Among the many companies investing in artificial intelligence, there is one surprisingly exclusive group: companies that generate value from AI. And right now, at least, the odds against gaining admission are sobering. According to a survey of more than 2,500 executives - conducted for a new report by MIT Sloan Management Review, BCG Gamma, and BCG Henderson Institute - seven out of ten companies report minimal or no gains so far from their AI initiatives. Why do some efforts succeed, but many more fail? The only one that struck me was #3.

This novel machine vision software platform accurately subtypes lung cancer pathology and achieves high concordance with analysis performed by trained medical pathologists. An initial report of the AI technology was presented at the Sixth American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) International Joint Conference. The study entitled, "Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) found elevated in lung adenocarcinomas (LUAD) using automated digital pathology masks derived from deep-learning models" concluded that despite lower overall TMB (tumor mutation burden) and lymphocyte levels, there exists a subset of lung cancers with very high infiltrating lymphocyte counts. Derived from deep-learning models, together, the findings demonstrate a novel AI-based method for subtyping lung cancer pathologies which impacts treatment options for patients and improved methods of identifying tumor infiltrating white cells found elevated in lung cancer.

Beyond the human interaction component, translating AI from laboratory experiment to a real-world tool entails additional challenges. "Do no harm," the first line of the Hippocratic Oath, signifies that physicians employing tools such as AI in patient care delivery must maintain safety as the first priority. As Luke Oakden-Rayner,12 a radiologist and critical AI blogger explains, Silicon Valley's ethos of "move fast break things" can be especially dangerous in the context of medical AI. In ophthalmology, we currently lie at the "dotted line," as triage systems such as the ones developed by IDX and Google DeepMind are precursors of future diagnostic and predictive systems.5,13 The Moorfields DeepMind algorithm already has a diagnostic component, and predictive systems are just around the corner.
