How Well Is DoD Positioned For AI? - Liwaiwai

#artificialintelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is permeating across various sectors. This includes even the defense sector. With this, it is important to identify the implications of this rising technology in our current way of handling national security and what must be done in order to ensure that the nation remains safe if AI continues to assert domination. This matter is the central issue in the published book, The Department of Defense Posture for Artificial Intelligence, made by the RAND Corporation as mandated by the US Department of National Defense (DoD). If you want to read the book, you may download the free ebook.

How AI Can Predict Heart Attacks and Strokes

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence is making its way into health care, and one of its first stops is making sense of all of those scans that doctors order. Already, studies have shown that AI-based tools can, in some cases, pick out abnormal growths that could be cancerous tumors better than doctors can, mainly because digesting and synthesizing huge volumes of information is what AI does best. In a study published Feb. 14 in Circulation, researchers in the U.K. and the U.S. report that an AI program can reliably predict heart attacks and strokes. Kristopher Knott, a research fellow at the British Heart Foundation, and his team conducted the largest study yet involving cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) and AI. CMR is a scan that measures blood flow to the heart by detecting how much of a special contrast agent heart muscle picks up; the stronger the blood flow, the less likely there will be blockages in the heart vessels.

7 Popular Data Science Presentations On SlideShare

#artificialintelligence

Presentations are a go-to approach to introduce new ideas or explaining new techniques in technology with text and infographics to engage an audience and retain attention. Over the years, presentations have catered to the needs of people who want to learn new things or get an overview of something new. Notably, in data science, explaining approaches with speech becomes difficult. Thus, presentation through slides is an effective way to learn or revise technology. Analytics India Magazine brings to you exciting data science presentation that will give a new perspective as well as introduce you to new developments in the landscape.

Computer-based weather forecast: New algorithm outperforms mainframe computer systems

#artificialintelligence

In the past, we have seen a constant rate of acceleration in information processing power as predicted by Moore's Law, but it now looks as if this exponential rate of growth is limited. New developments rely on artificial intelligence and machine learning, but the related processes are largely not well-known and understood. "Many machine learning methods, such as the very popular deep learning, are very successful, but work like a black box, which means that we don't know exactly what is going on. We wanted to understand how artificial intelligence works and gain a better understanding of the connections involved," said Professor Susanne Gerber, a specialist in bioinformatics at Mainz University. Together with Professor Illia Horenko, a computer expert at Universitร  della Svizzera italiana and a Mercator Fellow of Freie Universitรคt Berlin, she has developed a technique for carrying out incredibly complex calculations at low cost and with high reliability.

The Most Influential Deep Learning Research of 2019

#artificialintelligence

Deep learning has continued its forward movement during 2019 with advances in many exciting research areas like generative adversarial networks (GANs), auto-encoders, and reinforcement learning. In terms of deployments, deep learning is the darling of many contemporary application areas such as computer vision, image recognition, speech recognition, natural language processing, machine translation, autonomous vehicles, and many more. Earlier this year, we saw Google AI Language revolutionize the NLP segment of deep learning with the new language representation model called BERT, which stands for Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers. The already seminal paper was released on arXiv on May 24. This has led to a storm of follow-on research results.

20 Machine Learning Datasets & Project Ideas

#artificialintelligence

To Build a perfect model, you need a large amount of data. But finding the right dataset for your machine learning and data science project is sometimes quite a challenging task. There are many organizations, researchers, and individuals who have shared their work, and we will use their datasets to build our project. So in this article, we are going to discuss 20 Machine learning and Data Science dataset and project ideas that you can use for practicing and upgrading your skills. Enron Dataset is famous in natural language processing. It has more than 500K emails of over 150 users.

Facebook AI (Artificial Intelligence): Will M&A Help?

#artificialintelligence

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg speaks about "News Tab" at the Paley Center, Friday, Oct. 25, 2019 in ... [ ] New York. The new feature in the Facebook mobile app will display headlines -- and nothing else -- from the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, BuzzFeed News, Business Insider, NBC, USA Today and the Los Angeles Times, among others.(AP Facebook has been ramping its acquisitions for AI (Artificial Intelligence) startups. While the deals appear to be relatively small, they still are likely to be critical for the company's future. The latest purchase was for Scape Technologies, which is focused on building computer vision applications that help with AR (Augmented Reality).

Here's why we should hope self-driving tech is ready soon - Axios

#artificialintelligence

Waymo, whose driverless minivans are already shuttling a limited number of passengers in suburban Phoenix, Arizona will soon begin delivering packages for UPS as part of a new strategic partnership announced on Wednesday. Why it matters: Widespread use of robo-taxis is still years away, but automated trucks are quickly gaining momentum toward deployment. Waymo's ambition is to use the same self-driving technology in its minivans -- what it calls the Waymo driver -- to automate big rigs and delivery trucks like the ones UPS uses every day.

The Supply Side: Artificial intelligence is slowly shaping the future of retail - Talk Business & Politics

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI), otherwise known as machine learning, is slowly reshaping retail from optimizing back-end supply chain operations to in-store execution. It is also impacting marketing, customer service engagement and anti-fraud activities, according to a report from New York-based information technology industry analyst firm 451 Research. While AI is far from the mainstream, researchers said plenty of retailers are experimenting with how machine learning can be applied in many areas of retail. The report states retailers won't be the only ones needing to adapt to the disruption of machine learning as customers will also face changes in how they view and experience shopping. For AI to work to its full potential, researchers said customers will need to be comfortable with increased data sharing if they want to benefit from personalized shopping experiences via machine learning.

IBM highlights new approach to infuse knowledge into NLP models

#artificialintelligence

Researchers from the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab, Tulane University and the University of Illinois this week unveiled research that allows a computer to more closely replicate human-based reading comprehension and inference. The researchers have created what they termed "a breakthrough neuro-symbolic approach" to infusing knowledge into natural language processing. The approach was announced at the AAAI-20 Conference taking place all week in New York City. Reasoning and inference are central to both humans and artificial intelligence, yet many enterprise AI systems still struggle to comprehend human language and textual entailment, which is defined as the relationship between two natural language sentences, according to IBM. There have been two schools of thought or "camps" since the beginning of AI: one has focused on the use of neural networks/deep learning, which have been very effective and successful in the past several years, said David Cox, director for the MIT-IBM AI Watson Lab.
