Delivery robots move medical supplies to help with COVID-19 response

#artificialintelligence

Nuro, one of the nation's best-funded self-driving vehicle startups, has begun using its robots to ferry food and medical supplies around a California stadium that has been converted into a coronavirus treatment facility, CEO Dave Ferguson announced on Wednesday. "We realized that we could potentially use our R2 unmanned vehicles to provide truly contactless delivery of goods, where we remove any possible interaction between a driver dropping off goods and a person picking them up," Ferguson wrote. Contactless delivery could reduce the spread of COVID-19. In a Tuesday phone interview, Nuro policy chief David Estrada told Ars that the robots are ferrying food, supplies, and medical equipment from the parking lot of Sleep Train Arena, home of the Sacramento Kings, into the stadium itself. Human workers at designated locations load the vehicles at one end of a trip and unload them at the other.

Using AI To Help Health Experts Address The COVID-19 Pandemic - Liwaiwai

#artificialintelligence

AI is an important tool to support public health experts around the world in their efforts to keep people safe and informed amid the coronavirus pandemic. Facebook AI is partnering with academic researchers and other experts on a range of initiatives related to COVID-19. We are sharing overviews of several of these now, and we will add updates and more information in the days and weeks to come. More information is available here about Facebook's broader efforts related to this pandemic. Facebook AI has partnered with New York University's Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences to create localized forecasting models of the spread of COVID-19.

Global Artificial Intelligence Conference on Oct 20 to Oct 22 in Boston GlobalBigDataConference

#artificialintelligence

Global Big Data Conference's vendor agnostic Global Artificial Intelligence(AI) Conference is held on October 20th, October 21st, & October 22nd 2020 on all industry verticals(Finance, Retail/E-Commerce/M-Commerce, Healthcare/Pharma/BioTech, Energy, Education, Insurance, Manufacturing, Telco, Auto, Hi-Tech, Media, Agriculture, Chemical, Government, Transportation etc..). It will be the largest vendor agnostic conference in AI space. The Conference allows practitioners to discuss AI through effective use of various techniques. Large amount of data created by various mobile platforms, social media interactions, e-commerce transactions, and IoT provide an opportunity for businesses to effectively tailor their services by effective use of AI. Proper use of Artificial Intelligence can be a major competitive advantage for any business considering vast amount of data being generated.

Trends in Data Science

#artificialintelligence

Be it or name any business, small or large, AI has made its own space in the industry. AI has become conventional technology for most of the businesses and it will grow in the coming years. The reason behind the need and use of AI in the industry is because it allows improving the business processes, it helps in handling the data in a better way. Another trend under AI will be automated machine learning, which will help in better data management. To understand AI and bring out more changes in AI and Data Science, you must be an expert in it and for that, you have to be trained well!

Automated Machine Learning Vs. The Data Scientist

#artificialintelligence

Ever since automated machine learning has entered the scene, people are asking, "Will automated machine learning replace data scientists?" I personally don't think we need to be worried about losing our jobs any time soon. Automated machine learning is great at efficiently trying a lot of different options and can save a data scientist hours of work. The caveat is that automated machine learning cannot replace all tasks. Automated machine learning does not understand context as well as a human being.

Can Human Minds Be Reduced to Computer Programs?

#artificialintelligence

In the recent podcast, "Can We Upload Ourselves to a Computer and Live Forever?", Walter Bradley Center director Robert J. Marks and computer scientist Selmer Bringsjord discuss whether we could achieve immortality by uploading our minds to computers. The year 2029 is the consistent date I've predicted, when an artificial intelligence will pass a valid Turing test -- achieving human levels of intelligence. "I have also set the date 2045 for singularity -- which is when humans will multiply our effective intelligence a billion fold, by merging with the intelligence we have created. Indeed, when Kurzweil (left) became a director of engineering at Google in 2012, he not only mainstreamed the basic idea but he "heralded, for many, a symbolic merger between transhumanist philosophy and the clout of major technological enterprise." (The Guardian, 2017). Beyond the Valley, the project gets more ambitious. In a recent piece at Gizmodo, Toronto-based writer George Dvorsky advocates uploading our minds to supercomputers somewhere in the universe, a proposal he calls Distributed Humanity: "Entire civilizations could live on a single supercomputer, enabling the existence of potentially trillions upon trillions of individuals, each of them a single brain emulation.

PhD thesis - Towards rechargeable Zinc Air Batteries: an approach encompassing modeling, artificial intelligence and characterizations

#artificialintelligence

Metal–air batteries, consisting of a metal anode and an air cathode, have been attracted significant interest by the research community as energy storage devices, because of their high energy density (in particular, compared to lithium ion batteries -LIBs-). A wide diversity of active metals can be used as anode material such as Li, Ca, Mg, Al, Fe, and Zn. However, they have so far found their use only in very particular markets requiring high energy density such as hearing aids. Indeed, despite very significant experimental research efforts, recharging them electrochemically constitute a significant challenge, that if unlocked, will pave the way to a wider diversity of ZAB applications such as Electric Vehicles. Reversing this process to recharge electrochemically a ZAB would imply a heterogeneous deposition of Zn in the anode and the formation of dendrites that can short-circuit the cell, similarly to what can happen in lithium metal batteries.

Intel AI Builders – Transforming Enterprise with AI and IoT, Combined - Intel on AI episode 52

#artificialintelligence

The Internet of Things (IoT) is producing a tremendous amount of data. But companies need to make sense of the data and AI is a clear answer to analyze and act on that data to deliver the full potential of IoT. Previously, combining AI and IoT was relatively unthinkable. Now it is an incredibly fast growing trend, often referred to as AIoT. Bill Roberts, Senior Director of Global Process, Sensors and Smart Practice at SAS, joins the Intel on AI podcast to discuss how Intel and SAS participated in a survey to discover how organizations are using AIoT today, who within the company realizes and utilizes the value, and where AIoT will grow in the future.

Earth Day 2020's call for climate action: Can AI address the

#artificialintelligence

With 2019 emerging as the warmest on record for the world's oceans, the call to climate action continues as the theme for the 50-year anniversary of Earth Day 2020, described as the world's largest environmental movement to drive transformative change for people and planet. Alongside the pandemic, the climate crisis presents an opportunity to use data and AI in ways never before considered. IBM itself began focusing on environmental sustainability before the first Earth Day was ever celebrated -- but its track record on greening its supply chain and driving innovative uses of tech has put it among the world's top eco-friendly Fortune 500 companies. Where IBM leads, customers reap benefits. Digital transformation efforts across industries has given the company a unique vantage point on critical challenges facing the world -- putting AI the work on a number of different issues, from drastically reducing energy consumption to lower C02 to optimizing large scale food production in the wake of climate chaos.
