Is Your Sales Data Clean Enough for a Machine-Learning World?
Today's companies run on data. We track trends, assess results and analyze feedback. Data helps us manage risk, plan for future growth and allocate resources. Data is the foundation of our lead lists, sales pipelines and connections with customers. We collect contact records, integrate industry insight and profile companies based on their technographics (tech stack) and firmographics (company demographics).
Discrete Mathematics
Discrete mathematics is quickly becoming one of the most important areas of mathematical research, with applications to cryptography, linear programming, coding theory and the theory of computing. This book is aimed at undergraduate mathematics and computer science students interested in developing a feeling for what mathematics is all about, where mathematics can be helpful, and what kinds of questions mathematicians work on. The authors discuss a number of selected results and methods of discrete mathematics, mostly from the areas of combinatorics and graph theory, with a little number theory, probability, and combinatorial geometry. Wherever possible, the authors use proofs and problem solving to help students understand the solutions to problems. In addition, there are numerous examples, figures and exercises spread throughout the book.
Intel & Accenture Use AI To Save The Coral Reef
Today, April 22, 2020, is Earth Day. Accenture, Intel and the Sulubaaรฏ Environmental Foundation announced Project: CORaiL, an artificial intelligence (AI) - powered solution to monitor, characterize and analyze coral reef resilience. Since May 2019, it's been deployed to the reef surrounding Pangatalan Island, Philipines. Researchers have been using the 40,000 images collected to study the effects of climate change in the area. According to the United Nations Environment Programme, coral reefs protect coastlines from tropical storms, provide food and income for 1 billion people, and generate $9.6 billion in tourism and recreation.
Nabla Newsletter - Issue #4
If you want to find out more about what we're doing at Nabla, here is an article in Les Echos and here is a podcast with our CEO Alexandre Lebrun (both in). Chatham House encourage leaders to grasp the opportunity to strengthen global health security. The temptation to forget and move on will be overwhelming, but there will be a next pandemic: we should be better prepared for it. Dean of Stanford Medicine underlines how technology can help provide high-touch care to patients while remaining apart. Open AI published a report suggesting various steps that stakeholders can take to verify claims about AI developments.
Solving the Credit Impasse: How Big Data and AI are Generating Funding Opportunities for Smallholder Farmers in Africa - NextBillion
Agriculture finance represents an important element of eradicating extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity. According to the International Fund for Agricultural Development, smallholders manage over 80% of the world's estimated 500 million small farms and provide over 80% of the food consumed in a significant part of the developing world, making a major contribution to poverty reduction and food security. Most smallholder farms are in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, and in both regions over 80% of farmland is managed by smallholders. Even though these farmers are generally characterized by limited resources--particularly in terms of land--and dependence on household members for farm labor, they represent a critical part of food systems in developing countries. In light of the size and importance of the smallholder farming sector, the development community has a growing focus on providing these farmers with the funding they need to thrive.

Open Resources to Become Knowledgeable in the Field of AI
As Artificial Intelligence has become one of the most significant forces driving innovation and economic development, this societal transformation requires new knowledge and an additional set of skills. Just as knowing a BIM software has become a prerequisite for most architecture jobs, understanding or even knowing how to use AI-related tools would become a desirable asset, if not a requirement in the future. However, with a vast array of information available, how does one begin to venture into this topic? The following is a compilation of online resources, lectures, and courses, that could provide a better understanding of the field and how to incorporate it into the practice of architecture. What does Artificial Intelligence represent, what is the difference between machine learning and deep learning?
How Artificial Intelligence, IoT And Big Data Can Save The Bees
Modern agriculture depends on bees. In fact, our entire ecosystem, including the food we eat and the air we breathe, counts on pollinators. But the pollinator population is declining according to Sabiha Rumani Malik, the founder and executive president of The World Bee Project. But, in an intriguing collaboration with Oracle and by putting artificial intelligence, internet of things and big data to work on the problem, they hope to reverse the trend. Why is the global bee population in decline?
Government Turns To AI, Data Analytics To Filter Out Shell Companies
With the objective of establishing an ecosystem that will have "zero tolerance" for non-compliance with regulations, the corporate affairs ministry is betting big on AI and data analytics to deal with shell companies. Using these technologies, the ministry is developing an advanced MCA 21 portal. Used for submitting requisite filings under the companies law and managing a repository of data on corporates in India, the portal will enable authorities to weed out entities that do not comply with regulations. Typically, shell companies are floated for illegal activities like money laundering, and a zero tolerance approach to this, enabled by AI, can put a stop to these practices. It would make it "almost impossible for a shell company to survive," points out Corporate Affairs Secretary, Injeti Srinivas.
This AI tool helps hospitals predict COVID-19 bed and ventilator demand ZDNet
The NHS has started trials of a machine-learning system designed to help hospitals in England anticipate the demand on resources caused by COVID-19. The COVID-19 Capacity Planning and System (CPAS) is being piloted at four acute hospitals in England to demonstrate whether it can help the NHS predict the demand for equipment like ICU beds and ventilators. If successful, CPAS will be rolled out nationally. From cancelled conferences to disrupted supply chains, not a corner of the global economy is immune to the spread of COVID-19. NHS Digital told ZDNet the initiative marked the "first time any project of this scale and scope using machine learning has been rolled out in the NHS."
