A new world after the coronavirus pandemic
As the indomitable Coronavirus continues its reign over the world, the lifestyle of mankind has changed drastically. People have been maintaining social distancing, started working from home, finding time to engage more with the family, and slowing down on business activities. This change in lifestyle will have a lasting effect even in the post-COVID-19 world. The fear in people's mind, the time they have now to themselves, the pause in the rat-race will create a different world for the generations of the future. The home-office concept will be the most enduring practice in the post-COVID-19 world.
7 Classic Books To Deepen Your Understanding of (Artificial) Intelligence
Escher's artwork was an inspiration for Douglas Hofstadter's 1979 book "Gödel, Escher, Bach: An ... [ ] Eternal Golden Braid", sometimes referred to as the Bible of artificial intelligence. The field of artificial intelligence has never been the subject of more attention and analysis than it is today. Almost every week, it seems, a new bestselling book comes out examining the technology, business or ethics of AI. Yet few of the topics and debates at the center of today's AI discourse are new. While not always recognized by commentators, artificial intelligence as a serious academic discipline dates back to the 1950s.
Using Self-Organizing Maps to solve the Traveling Salesman Problem
The Traveling Salesman Problem is a well known challenge in Computer Science: it consists on finding the shortest route possible that traverses all cities in a given map only once. Although its simple explanation, this problem is, indeed, NP-Complete. This implies that the difficulty to solve it increases rapidly with the number of cities, and we do not know in fact a general solution that solves the problem. For that reason, we currently consider that any method able to find a sub-optimal solution is generally good enough (we cannot verify if the solution returned is the optimal one most of the times). To solve it, we can try to apply a modification of the Self-Organizing Map (SOM) technique.
Using nano-scale spintronics, researchers aim to build novel artificial brain
IMAGE: The researchers will build new AI hardware technology using novel nano-scale spintronics that can radically change the way in which computers work. New research project to develop AI hardware; a completely new kind of computer system that mimics how the human brain is built up. Out with CPUs and memory storage, and in with artificial neural networks that can increase computer performance by up to 100,000 times compared to modern supercomputers. Researchers from Aarhus University have just received DKK 33 million (EUR 4.4 million) from the prestigious EU framework programme Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) for a project that may have far-reaching consequences for the computer technology of the future. The aim is to develop a neuromorphic computer system (NCS) as a novel AI hardware that can set a framework for AI software in a physical system built like a human brain.
5 Technological Innovations Changing Medical Practice
With technology, the past decade has been a revelation. Tech developers are breaking new ground, doing what we once thought was impossible. For engineers, researchers and developers, it seems the question to ask now is not if it can be done but how. Virtually every sector of the economy is experiencing the refreshing impact of technological innovation. Particularly in the health sector, there are plenty of business opportunities for savvy entrepreneurs and investors.
Artificial Intelligence in Retail Market Share, Scope, Trends, Drivers, Challenges – Forecast 2023 – Latest Herald
Artificial Intelligence is anticipated to disrupt every business and enterprises across the world. One of the major factors that drive the growth of artificial intelligence market in retail is the advancement in big data, and adoption of artificial intelligence enabled devices and services across various different domains. Additionally, the expansion of human-aware artificial intelligence systems and the wide scope of AI technologies are the opportunities in retail market that exist at present. Further, artificial intelligence technologies are the future for many industries that are determined for effective, low-cost operations and high productivity in their respective business segments and markets. The factors that drive the market growth comprise of growing need for surveillance and monitoring at a brick and mortar store, rising responsiveness and application of artificial intelligence in the retail industry for effective logistics and product delivery, improved user-experience, amended productivity, and higher return on investment (RoI).
AI Can Distinguish Between Bots, Humans Based on Twitter Activity
Artificial intelligence is being used to spot the difference between human users and fake accounts on Twitter. Researchers at the University of Southern California (USC) have trained an artificial intelligence system to detect Twitter bots based on differences in the patterns of Tweeting activity of real and fake accounts. The researchers analyzed two separate datasets of Twitter users, which were classified manually or by a pre-existing algorithm as either bot or human. The manually verified data set included 8.4 million tweets from 3,500 human accounts, and 3.4 million tweets from 5,000 bots. The team found that human users replied between four and five times more frequently to other tweets than bots did.

Towards an Artificial Intelligence Framework for Data-Driven Prediction of Coronavirus Clinical Severity
The virus SARS-CoV2, which causes coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has become a pandemic and has spread to every inhabited continent. Given the increasing caseload, there is an urgent need to augment clinical skills in order to identify from among the many mild cases the few that will progress to critical illness. We present a first step towards building an artificial intelligence (AI) framework, with predictive analytics (PA) capabilities applied to real patient data, to provide rapid clinical decision-making support. COVID-19 has presented a pressing need as a) clinicians are still developing clinical acumen to this novel disease and b) resource limitations in a surging pandemic require difficult resource allocation decisions. The objectives of this research are: (1) to algorithmically identify the combinations of clinical characteristics of COVID-19 that predict outcomes, and (2) to develop a tool with AI capabilities that will predict patients at risk for more severe illness on initial presentation.
