David Webb sounds off on 'hypocrisy' of Dick Durbin using word 'token' to criticize Tim Scott

FOX News

Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin apologizes to Sen. Tim Scott for the remark on the Republican police reform plan. Fox Nation host David Webb on Thursday blasted Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin for calling Sen. Tim Scott's role in crafting the GOP-led police reform bill a "token approach." "I don't know what's in Dick Durbin's heart," Webb told "Fox & Friends." "But it's the hypocrisy that if anyone had used that word'token,' which is a legitimate word in the English language, in any way, pointed toward blacks from the right, they [the left] would have gone crazy. They would have been protesting. They would have been claiming the egregious nature of its use."

COVID-19 Gives AI a Reality Check

#artificialintelligence

While it seems unlikely that AI will enter another nuclear winter, the current COVID-19 situation is giving enterprises the opportunity to rethink their AI strategies, giving the better AI projects more room to run, while discarding the borderline AI projects that were unlikely to pay off. The macro economic situation deteriorated rapidly thanks to COVID-19. In the span of a few weeks in late March, the United States went from record-low unemployment and widespread prosperity to massive layoffs and the abrupt end of the longest economic expansion in history. Amid this brutal economic toll, many companies have declared bankruptcy, while others are slashing their budgets in an attempt to weather viral the storm. Will AI projects survive the mess? Companies that have already implemented AI have reported fewer impacts and a greater ability to respond to unanticipated disruptions to their businesses.

Deep Learning techniques for Cyber Security

#artificialintelligence

For the first time, I taught an AI for Cyber Security course at the University of Oxford. I referred to this paper from Johns Hopkins which covered Deep Neural networks for Cyber Security (A Survey of Deep Learning Methods for Cyber Security) – references below where you can download the full paper for free. Detecting and Classifying Malware: The number and variety of malware attacks are continually increasing, making it more difficult to defend against them using standard methods. DL provides an opportunity to build generalizable models to detect and classify malware autonomously. There are a number of ways to detect malware.

Artificial Intelligence: Growth in many sectors in light of a Pandemic Getting Smart

#artificialintelligence

As researchers around the world work to find answers to so many questions about the Coronavirus, two things have been happening that I have noticed. One, there has been an increase in the use of artificial intelligence in the medical field, in particular with tracking the onset of Coronavirus and using AI to explore trends and devise solutions to some of the challenges that we are facing as we deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Second, AI has also become a more common topic of discussion in the world of education, with resources shared for how to learn more about AI and many online course providers seeing an increase in enrollment in their AI programs. Why do we need to pay more attention to AI now? There are statistics predicting that artificial intelligence in U.S. education will grow by 47.5% from 2017-2021.

This 3D printed house reduces carbon emissions and takes 48 hours to build!

#artificialintelligence

The construction industry contributes to 39% of global carbon emissions while aviation contributes to only 2% which means we need to look for alternative building materials if we are to make a big impact on the climate crisis soon. We've seen buildings being made using mushrooms, bricks made from recycled plastic and sand waste, organic concrete, and now are seeing another innovative solution – a floating 3D printed house! Prvok is the name of this project and it will be the first 3D printed house in the Czech Republic built by Michal Trpak, a sculptor, and Stavebni Sporitelna Ceske Sporitelny who is a notable member of the Erste building society. The house is designed to float and only takes 48 hours to build! Not only is that seven times faster than traditional houses, but it also reduces construction costs by 50%.

Artificial Intelligence and the Fight Against COVID-19

#artificialintelligence

Although there has been rapid growth in the levels of AI research to tackle COVID-19 since the beginning of the year, AI remains underrepresented in this area compared to its presence in research outside of COVID-19. After growing rapidly earlier in the year, the share of AI papers in COVID-19 research has stagnated in recent weeks. More than a third of publications to tackle COVID-19 involve predictive analyses of patient data and in particular medical scans. AI is also being deployed to analyse social media data, predict the spread of the disease and develop biomedical applications. China, the US, the UK, India and Canada are the global leaders in the development of AI applications to tackle COVID-19 research, accounting for 62 per cent of the institutional participations for which we have geographical data.

Raleigh startup unveils approach to prevent Alzheimer's utilizing artificial intelligence WRAL TechWire

#artificialintelligence

RALEIGH – A startup in Raleigh backed by investor and Sprout Pharmaceuticals CEO Cindy Eckert, is unveiling Thursday a different approach to dealing with Alzheimer's that is powered by artificial intelligence, not drugs. And its solution is part of a new effort launched by the Women's Alzheimer's Movement Prevention Center at Cleveland Clinic, an internationally respected medical institution. ExtND is among the offerings from the Women's Alzheimer's center, which also was unveiled today in Las Vegas, according to a spokesperson for uMETHOD. Several medical institutions already are deploying the method. More than 5 million people are currently afflicted with Alzheimer's and the disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the US, according to the Alzheimer's Assocation.

Digitalisation of mining to weather future storms

#artificialintelligence

Mining is no stranger to digitalisation. The widely held perception of the resources industry is one of workers in mines and not one of machines running almost everything. But technological advances have already resulted in adoption of mechanisation, automation and data-driven production optimisation. Companies such as BHP, Anglo American and Rio Tinto have embraced digitalisation to gain a competitive advantage, mitigate risk and improve performance. They use advanced data analytics, virtual reality and artificial intelligence to reduce costs and increase efficiency in their processes, leading to enhanced ore recovery and less waste, to name a couple of benefits.

Online video game showcases a remedy for coronavirus-caused summertime blues without E3 trade show

USATODAY - Tech Top Stories

Amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, video games remain a hobby that can be enjoyed at home. If the shortage of Nintendo Switch consoles is any indication, people nationwide made stay-at-home orders easier by jumping into virtual worlds. Another sign that gamers are turning to their controllers: Consumer spending on video game software, hardware, accessories and other related goods in May rose 52% to $977 million, the highest amount for the month in 12 years, according to research firm The NPD Group. Summer is also the time when video game devotees learn what is in the pipeline. But most of the industry's quintessential summer showcases – The Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, in particular – have been canceled due to the threat of the virus, leaving gamers to get industry news from primarily online sources.
