But what does it mean when machine actions are the result of human thoughts? No longer part of science fiction, many would argue that brain-machine and brain-computer interfaces are the next way we will communicate with machines and even with one another. What are the limits of human knowledge? Or is that something we cannot know? This is the question pondered by Professor of Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University, mathematician, broadcaster and author Marcus du Sautoy in his book, What We Cannot Know: Explorations at the Edge of Knowledge. I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Marcus about conscious artificial intelligence and other mind-blowing things that science can't answer. With a large backlog of appointments caused by coronavirus, some hospitals in England and Wales have started using algorithms to prioritise patients most urgently in need of care and to help clear the mounting numbers. Multiple companies are vying to get into this space from Babylon's AI services which provide health information, to DrDoctor, which recently released a new AI software adopted to collate and automatically rate patient's responses with digital questionnaires. Tom Whicher, CEO of DrDoctor estimates that if every hospital in the country adopted his technology, the time needed to get through the backlog would be dramatically reduced from four years to ten months. DrDoctor has also stressed that the tool will not decide anything for patients, it does not make clinical suggestions or rule out any patients form receiving care. The platform will present the data and the clinician ultimately makes the decision.

Artificial intelligence will help scientists search for signs of ancient life on Mars and other planets thanks to work by NASA scientists in training the system. The European Space Agency (ESA) Rosalind Franklin'ExoMars' rover will be the first to have the new AI system when it leaves for the Red Planet in 2022/2023. Allowing these intelligent systems to choose both what to analyse and what to tell us back on Earth will overcome severe limits on how information is transmitted over huge distances in the search for life from distant planets. The system is being tested on Mars but has been designed to be used in future missions to the icy moons of Jupiter and Saturn where distance is more of an issue. Kidney cancer is among the 10 most common cancers. In 2019, the American Cancer Society estimated 73,820 new cases of kidney cancer and 14,770 deaths from this disease. The five-year survival rate reduces from 93% in low-risk groups to 69% in high risk groups of patients with localized kidney cancer. However, following the spread of cancer, these rates plummet to 12%. For radiologists, a fundamental driver of diagnosing renal cancer remains visual and qualitative, meaning CT scans (images of a mass) are largely evaluated based on individual knowledge and experience.

Approached with trepidation until not long ago, data science and artificial intelligence have emerged as popular career choices today. Not only do they prepare aspirants for the future of work amid large scale automation, they are also industry-agnostic and are labelled as highly lucrative. It is no wonder then that a slew of Master's programs offering specialisations in these two disciplines has emerged over the last few years. What is more, with the proliferation of digital courses, these long-term programs are also being provided through online offerings. While both data science and artificial intelligence courses are plenty, which one should you go for?

The global milking robots market is dominated by BouMatic owing to the fact that it prioritizes technical support and offers quick repair services in case any machine fails to function. In addition to this, the company also focuses on providing training programs to promote the importance of dairy management and herd safety.

Amazon followed suit a couple of days later putting a temporary, year-long ban on facial recognition contracts with American police departments. Finally, Microsoft said that they, too, would no longer sell facial recognition to American police departments without federal regulation. Details aside, these statements all share the implicit confession of the danger that facial recognition poses to human rights and democracy. This self-containment coming out of Big Tech does not, however, address these very same dangers that exist in the EU. Although these technologies are used within EU member states as well, the decisions from IBM, Amazon and Microsoft only apply to the American context.

Based in New York, Grafiti was co-founded by former journalist Farhan Mustafa and venture advisor Akbar Dawood. Dawood is an advisor to Untethered Labs. Mustafa, who also has a background in data analytics, said he came up with the idea for Grafiti.io while working as a consultant and producer for the Al Jazeera Media Network. Frustrated by the drudgery of combing through news stories looking for charts and graphs while reporting for Al Jazeera in the Middle East, Mustafa wanted a tool that would surface visual information onto a single page, instead of having to go into each story to see the visuals. Grafiti has a platform that does that.
