SpaceX, the aerospace company run by Elon Musk, launched the $4.3bn space telescope on a triple-the-fire-power Falcon Heavy rocket from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in the US state of Florida just after dawn on Sunday. It will take more than three months to get there. Its mission is planned for five years although the United States space agency said the telescope may have enough fuel for five additional years, given that the telescope is designed to be refuelled. If a robotic tanker becomes available in the coming decade, that could extend the Roman Telescope's life.

Lake Ontario is no more on Google Maps in the US. Google changed the name of easternmost of the Great Lakes to "Lake America" late Saturday, days after President Donald Trump ordered its rebranding in official government databases. Trump issued the executive order on Thursday as part of an ongoing feud over tariffs with Canada, whose capital province is called Ontario. It followed a similar order he issued in January 2025 to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America as part of a fight with the US trading partner to the south.

Sony Music and Warner just filed a lawsuit alleging that Anthropic developed Claude models using stolen music. Music giants Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell Music have just filed a potentially multibillion-dollar lawsuit against Anthropic, and the publishers aren't mincing words. The lawsuit, filed Friday evening in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, calls Anthropic the culprits behind one of the largest and most blatant ongoing thefts of intellectual property in history. Sony and Warner also named Anthropic CEO and cofounder Dario Amodei and cofounder Benjamin Mann in the lawsuit.
